What to do with Petracca?
I've been critical of Petracca of late so I won't sink the boots in. I do, however, want to know if others have made the same observation that I have about his kicking style. It always seems to me that his ball drop starts from very high and therefore seemingly lacks any great control. This is particularly so when he looks to kick around his body and, invariably, he takes too long to get the ball from hand to foot. Now he's not a midfielder, I think we see that now. Perhaps he needs to look at (don't shout me down here) how a guy like Hawthorn's Puopolo goes about it in the forward half. The post about him not being a hybrid is spot on imo. Petracca is a burst player.

Don't panic. It's just the JLT.

Round 1 Non MFC games
Bombers need to bring back 'the weapon' and Shane Charters. At least they were interesting then.

The Writing Was/Is on the Wall
RJay, you're either on too many drugs or not enough if you think it's a good idea to drop Tom McDonald to Casey. I'm closer to where you're at re Trac.

POSTGAME: Rd 1 vs Port Adelaide
Perhaps it's me getting older and grumpier, but he's had enough time in the system to be able to grab the game by the scruff of it's neck.

If it's possible to become a poor man's Brent Maloney, then Petracca is it. Time for a spell.

The pre-season supplemental selection period
Is it just me or is Essendrug being gifted a great deal lately, from favorable draw to rule tweaks to accommodate bringing in an experienced ruckman.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Alarm bells went off when Bell initially used the phrase 'feather in my cap'. In other words, it's quickly become all about him and not the outcome. Now Hogan's worth significantly more than pick 11 (even taking into account my obvious bias) but the problem is that Bell is more interested in being seen as the smartest guy in the room. The deal won't get done because of an over -inflated ego and whilst in may or may not be a setback for us short term, it's a problem for Freo in the longer term.

Absolutely agree. Surely we hold the strongest hand here.

Yeah probably JR. Think this may actually be it though. Unless it's the year after.

I think I'm in the minority. Assuming we solve a need through May and KK with a late 1st round draft pick, I'm not against picking up a kid early within the first round. This draft is supposedly significantly stronger than that of 2017. Rayner, Brayshaw, Paddy Dow, Adam Cerra, Jaidyn Stephenson (Rising Star) and Davies - Uniake were the first six of this year.

Not keen at all. May have shown some early promise but, from the games I saw, lacks footy nous.

Pates, I'm not so sure of that. Talent wise Hogan is right up there. But it's not always that simple.

We were belted down back on Saturday but, poor performances aside, I'm not sure David Dench and SOS combined could have stemmed the tide. I can't help but wonder that chasing May is simply a kneejerk reaction. Oscar McDonald is coming along and Petty will also come along quickly. We really lost the prelim because of lack of outside speed and West Coast players sweating on the ball moving from inside to outside. Petracca flicking the ball to space and an awaiting WC player was just one of a number of examples To my mind, a Jaidyn Stephenson type is what we require. If Oskar Baker continues to track the way he was prior to injury, he also represents an injection of real pace and outside run. And if we were to receive two picks I'd also be looking at someone with the capacity to deliver the ball inside 50 with precision. Perhaps I'm viewing things differently to the majority of posters in respect to this.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
If he is going we need to take the Adrian Dodoro (Ess) approach. Some of his demands on behalf of his club have bordered on the absurd but there's no way in hell he'd leave the table without gaining an advantage. They want a potential champion, then you've got to give up something pretty bloody good.

Let's simplify this - broke a players jaw in an off the ball incident. Therefore manifestly worse than Bugg's. Bugg got 6 weeks. 8 to 10 would be right.

If we picked up Bedford it would mean Dion Johnstone's future would be under threat I would have thought. Dion needs to get a move along.

Got to admit, I've been a little pessimistic about Gus ever becoming a very good player for us. Looks like I could be wrong. Hope so. Today was a real step forward.
