Great win but trying to keep a lid on it because I desperately want us to win 2 in a row, but will enjoy the week The team effort was excellent today plenty of our boys did their jobs and really stood up

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 18
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Makes a change having to really think about who gets left out and my apologies to Dom Tyson, Howe, Garland and Dunn who were all good Dawes and Howe both also put in good efforts 6.Vince 5.Watts 4.Gawn 3.Viney 2.Hogan 1.Jones & Jetta -
The Swans outside of Josh Kennedy aren't exactly a big midfield if you look at all the players they rotate through Parker, Hannebery, Mcveigh, Mcglynn, Mitchell what they lack and what we also currently lack is pace, they only currently have Jetta who is providing any run. Rohan injured and Shaw looking cooked along with their aging defence is why they are currently where they are

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Pennant St Dee replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
If I am honest he is playing as he did at Collingwood I actualy don't rate him as a player, never have, disposal has always been suspect and runs around like a headless chook into corners a lot He is average, but is under the microscope more in a poorer side But I think Clark for Lumumba is a win I do not think we would have been foolish enough to pay him heavily at the back end of his contract -
If we beat the pies I will ...
Pennant St Dee replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wont change my view that we can play as a normal side when severly challenged I will watch with anticipation as to whether we have learnt anything the following week by backing it up or we just fall back to our usual complacent selves -
He is a gun would cost a lot and be worth it Knee issues don't worry me to much, he is very professional and driven. He isn't the first and wont be the last youngplayer with injury problems putting a question mark over him Andrew Mcleod had knee issues he learnt to manage and players with that level of professionalism Would be happy with that sort of outcome

For christ sake we picked up Lumumba for Mitch Clark so I wouldn't say it was a poor pick up and IMO he is playing as he did at Collingwood, but you did hit the nail on the head he has less capable players around him -

Glass half empty Dawes could never mark and got consistently worse after he injured his hand in 2011 at the Pies Terlich was never skillful and whilst he had dash ran into trouble a lot Vandenberg is in his first season looking tired nothing else Tyson had an injury interupted pre-season and has not been right all year, it is fairly obvious Lamumba is no different at Melbourne to how he was at Collingwood Clark - FMD the lisfranc injury may have had a fair bit to do with how he ended up Trengove - as above JKH - beyond the NAB cup game against Richmond and the odd cameo has shown nothing but glimpses, needs to work harder Grimes - oh yes those years of wonderful disposal pin point accuracy how I crave for those moments back. Grimes had a shocker on the weekend but has performed well this season so lets not rewrite history -
Regardless of who you bring in and personell etc The big ins need to be 2 way running 100% effort back yourself 2nd efforts tackling pressure Out: waiting for a team mate to do it not taking the 1st option second guessing yourself lack of run

in the last 6 weeks the Pies have played good sides and performed really well and whilst they have lost 5 in a row they could quite easily be 4 & 2 from that run of games Dogs - beaten and beaten well score flattered them a bit Meth Coast - as above they were very brave and showed some grit to stick with meth Coast for so long Port - were certainly in the game and peppered the forward 50 for the final quarter but just couldn't land that killer blow Hawthorn - they lost this Hawthorn didn't win it Pies kicked themselves out of this and it was a very very good performance Freo - I was at this game and as above they kicked themselves out of it and how Jesse White didn't put them in front late is beyond me Bye GWS - They gave GWS a fairly decent touch up The statistic which says we have a better record than them because we beat the Cats and Lions is meaningless, whilst we were impressive against the Cats I do not think our performance was any more impressive than any of the Pies displays against Fremantle, Hawthorn or Port -
Tipping Point Has Been Reached...
Pennant St Dee replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't think this is the case any more Nasher for the majority and the knowledgable suporters We have been through so much and seen the team on to many occassions respond for 1 week only, they become content with themselves it is an ingrained culture amongst the playing group Roosy gat a grace period and whilst we can see small improvement and the players we moved on (barring Martin) have done little to suggest we were wrong for moving them on, The players we brought in generally showed more potential and improvement in the side. However taking this all into account teh fact that we still can't string 2 wins together is just to much to take, it is not like we haven't had opportunities to do so Suns & GWS Round 1 & 2 Bulldogs & Port Round 8 & 9 Saints & Cats Round 11 & 12 Essendon, Brisbane & Saints Round 15, 16 & 17 The team group has been found wanting in all of the above gone missing, expected the usual suspect to do the job, no leadership. Even in those games we had the opportunity to get the two in a row. Basic mistakes made by a so called professional team leading into and during these games we were comfortably in the lead in two of those games and became complacent which is so common for this team Nobody stood up and stopped the run ons in the GWS and Port games or teh Bombers in the 3rd quarter nobody on the ground realised there was only 40 secs left (FMD the security were out around the ground and there had been SFA goals scored) in the Saints game at Etihad no leader stood up and nailed opportunities against the Bombers when we had them on the ropes and doubting themselves in the 4th No leader yesterday realised in the conditions it wasn't a day for run and carry with handball after handball These are basics in leadership and even now into our third rebuild we continue to disapoint our members. I advocated a few weeks ago and will again that should we win our next game we do not sing teh song because we will have accomplished little until we put two together. We have imporved but other sides improve quicker and that is what irks the majority of our supporters -
And just when you thought we couldn't get any worse...
Pennant St Dee replied to Giles's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree we are a dead man walking as a club, slight improvement but not good enough from how far back we are coming. I'm pulling 3 of the 4 memberships I have with this club, wife and kids follow other sides so I'll stick fat but this is just to much. Does this group not have enough collective pride to want to try desperately enough and win 2 in a row FFS, Thank feck for local and junior footy because this club is killing my enthusiasm for the game -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 17

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Pennant St Dee replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Shuey, Gaff, Priddis, Lecras, Wellingham, Selwood, Yeo, Masten, Sheed, Hutchings and Rosa is a pretty decent midfield with good depth in anybodies language. You can tag one or two but when little work gets put into the Masten's and Gaff's because of this Masten accumulates as a conduit and Gaff has the ability to really hurt you. Hawks are devastating because of their versatility and ability to move different combinations into and out of the centre clearances and stoppages at any time during matches Lewis, Hodge, Mitchell, Rioli, Roughead, Burgoyne, Hill, Smith and Shiels. It is soemthing Simpson has taken from his time at the Hawks and developed to good effect and their boys at East Perth play the same way so they step right in if called up. Natanui is a long way from elite doesn't have endurance to take him around the ground to take marks, find space and he doesn't have the footy nous or smarts to find space. He is a good player but certainly not worthy of all the hype or high price tag. He is a freakish athlete who can fill a highlight reel but elite IMO of the ruckman in the AFL he is a fair way behind Goldstein, Mummy, Jacobs, Lobbe and Sandilands and probably on par with Martin. As far as young ruckman go Grundy has a lot more upside than Natanui -

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Pennant St Dee replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think on current picks over the last few years we will go Balic, bigger mid and the endurance/inside ability will give them something to work with. I don't think Parish's pace is electric enough to sway the decision, good player and I like him but I think we are building a strong midfield and the outside run will be the polish added later -
12 wins wont get you in with a percentage like ours and certainly not with Cats and Adelaide sharing the points after Walsh's passing. As I have said before just worry about the Saints this week then move on. We have had our most wins since 2010 now lets try and get two in a row and that will be 3 achievements (Winning at Geelong) then we can look somewhere at breaking the Etihad hoodoo

Northern Blues v Casey Scorpions

I think I speak for most of us Dees who live interstate, KC, Samael and others who regularly attend Scorps matches, big thanks for the updates and information on our listed players. Very much appreciated -
DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 16
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6.Cross - chopped off and set up love what he brings and think he can go again and will be teaching our boys what playing AFL is about 5.Hogan - bounced back after 2 down weeks and dominated as a key forward, works hard and delivered on the scoreboard 4.Gawn - Improving every week and was the best ruckman on the ground against two guys who have been in decent form of late 3.Viney - really really good year and just always gives 100% at every contest, would hate to play against him, future captain just leads and hasn't hit 50games yet 2.Howe - composed with his ball use and used his aerial talent to advantage, played as he should no keep it up 1.Dawes - worked solidly presented as a target freeing Hogan up applied pressure to opponents forcing mistakes, workrate and pressure of this sort has a massive impact on Hogans ability to influence a game Unlucky Jetta & Vanders -
We've played better on several occasions this and last season and lost so I'm taking the win, very much Sydney 04 & early 05 in our display today ugly as but never in danger although playing like that you and the opposition are never far away. Liking Harmes and good to see Dawes and Howe putting in decent displays, Big Maxy developing week by week and a big positive in the 2nd half of the year. JKH is almost at the cross roads, I know it's only 2nd year but he tends to cruise a lot and really lacks a solid work ethic to get the best out of himself.

How did you end up following the Mighty Dees?
Pennant St Dee replied to Frosty Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
1. How did you start following the Demons? No family heritage towards teams as Irish immigrants my dad chose North and mum follows the Swans but I wanted to chose my own side, Sunday nights after countdown "The winners" watching circa 1980 and decided whoever was on I would pick a team, Melbourne vs Fitzroy FMD what a choice chose the Dees and 35 years later still as passionate as I was when I was 8, just swear a hell of a lot more watching footy then I did back then 2. Who was your very first favourite player and why? Todd Viney loved his hardness and attack on the ball, there was a time until he did his knee Chris Connolly was my favourite player but he was cruelled by injury. Robbie was still the best I saw but I was never going to be like him so at least with Todd I had some hope 3. Best moment as a fan? For all those Dees fans who are to young to remember or haven't seen us in finals, I can tell you that feeling of joy when we finally make the finals is something special and I haven't felt it again as a fan, maybe it was my age and innocence at the time. I will never forget round 22 1987 it was surreal and we were used to failure so never thought we would win and up until the Hawks hit the front down at Kardinia it looked like so close but so far, that whole week knowing we'd made it and the journey we went on in 87 was something I would love to go through again 4. Worst moment as a fan? 1987 Prelim I cried my eyes out, and whilst I still haven't gotten over it and the umpire not hearing the siren before Jimmy crossed the mark, I was able to reflect on the joy of the 1987 ride. 2008-14 has had me at my wits end and had me feeling for long periods that we will never get out of this and be any good again, 5. Anything else you would like to share? I have a pact with the big man upstairs that I don't head back up there until I see my Dees win a flag, so on a positive note I have a long and healthy life ahead of me -
If we win and it is a big if "No singing of the club song" 4 years now of failing to put two wins together and god knows is it 10 years of failing to put 3 wins together. Win next week and pat each other on the back and immediately start focusing on the Saints the following week

The old adage of if you good enough you win, travel, 6 day turnarounds, wet weather, hostile crowds nothing interferes good sides build on confidence and self belief and just keep winning Magnified even more so when we lack two way runners and players willing to run and spread
