DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 6
Rob Mac...... replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good point, & I'm wrapt in Gawns playing this year! ..but actually it's only about one season that he's been playing steady AFL now I think, so Stef would have been #1 for the past 3 years & we'd have been a bit better team for that, & I assume Max developed at Casey, so he'd probably be similar, but trying to work w. Stef, who I'm not sure would be quite as good as Peder when resting, but rucks much better. On the other hand Max is handy resting forward now. All moot of course, but I'd LOVE to have another great ruck to share with Max. -

I mentioned Martin because we let him go for peanuts. I see the challenge to their working together, mainly because Stef wasn't so great at anything other than rucking. Max would be a great forward/ruck. Anyway plenty of teams have two genuine rucks & my post was just saying that Max looked to be tiring a bit and is more likely to get injured while he's got no decent help. Hey are you a guitar player too WAClark? -

6. Hogan 5 Viney 4 Watts 3 Jones 2 Gawn 1 Bugg [or Jetta or Kennedy or ] Everyone seemed tired. IMO Gawn is easily the main reason we're doing better this year, but if we don't get serious help in for him soon, I predict he'll go down injured and we'll be seriously screwed. Peder/Frost give Max a break, but they also give the opposition rucks a break because they're easy to ruck against. Shouldn't have traded Stef Martin. I'm not a Spencer fan at all, but he needs to practice goal kicking like crazy & replace Peder/Frost. He'll hurt & tire the opposition when rucking, so the opposition will have less energy to battle Max, Max will perform better and be more likely to survive without injury. -

COLLINGWOOD VFL v CASEY SCORPIONS
Rob Mac...... replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's exactly what I was thinking La Dee! ..or at least have the MFC players Casey #'s up there with the Casey players. Why have people have to go to major hassle to recognize the MFC players in a poor quality video. Anyway, I cheched the goalkicking video & it was: Weid 79 trac 78 Trenners 54 Mich White 58 ANB 72 Hulett 55 Grimes 80 Ben Newton 70 Terlich ? -

Maybe I'm going blind, but I looked at every post in the thread & the numbers the MFC players wear on their backs at Casey weren't anywhere. -
COLLINGWOOD VFL v CASEY SCORPIONS

The Casey/Collingwood game is up for watching on the MFC website. Visual quality is very poor, so I've been trying to find a list of the Casey players numbers to help. Can't find one yet. The casey site only names & numbers their players, not the MFC players. I'd like recognize our guys. Does anyone know where that list can be found please? -
Hopefully our rebuild will be coming together just in time for him to play in our next premiership

O Mac is a miniscule 82 Kg ! He'll be monstered by any big KPF. Even Watts is 92kg, Brown & Petrie are 101Kg. I think the only 3 we can successfully put against Norf's 3 big, tall forwards are TMac, Dunn and Frost, unless Jessie goes back for a change of scenery and mindset for a bit. I don't expect it to happen though
-
I watched him at the G today and thought he caused so many turnovers by hand & foot, unnecessarily putting our guys under pressure. I'd give Petracca a one week taste next week & ask Dom at Casey for one week to really focus on what's going on around him when he has the pill so he can better advantage us with his disposal. Clarry played his first game today and in that department was miles better than Dom. He sees what's going on and does good things.
-
Dunn in, O Mac out Tyson out [couple weeks @ Casey focusing on what to do with the pill when he gets it] Brayshaw or Petracca in. Possible Bugg out [2 huge mistakes in Q1] in- H, Brayshaw or Terlich (only if he's as improved as some say)

6 Viney 5 Watts 4 T Mac 3 Gawn 2 N Jones 1 Kennedy Oliver unlucky. Fine Debut.

MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 1, 2016

Stunned to see Oscar @ CHB & Dunn an emergency ! Fortunately we have Peder & Frost, so one can take CHB when Oscar flakes out -
Tom McDonald needs to take a good hard look at himself.
Rob Mac...... replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes I almost didn't mention Howe, but I recall very early on people were saying that he and Nicholson were our worst kicks. The next season Nicholson was the same but Howe came out kicking better for awhile, somewhat, okay still not very good. -

TMcD's a great contested footballer, but I agree with this thread; his disposal remains lousy, especially today. I think of Nat Jones who turned his kicking around, ditto Howe was a lousy kick at first. Even Matt Jones, so far this year seems to have much improved disposal. I watched him closely last week. Tommy needs to practice kicking for about 4 hours every day for many months, on top of everything else he's doing. -
Here's a thought: Perhaps some players at the end of their careers get dropped by their respective teams, take time to think about footy and realize they haven't done everything they wanted to do. If given another chance, they may come back with renewed commitment. Like Crossy! .and Jetta, rookied and returning better than ever. Roos was probably the first to realize this and, at Sydney & now here, has made a history of getting great work from other teams discards. It's just another factor, but may mean some of Essendungs top-up players play better and do more selfless team things than expected. I think they'll play a few decent games and wouldn't assume they're certainties for the spoon. It'll be a gigantic game for them! Watch out if we're not really psyched for it too.

Hoping Gawn, Hogan, Brayshaw & Viney consolidate & improve at least slightly on their fine 2015's. Breakouts?: Salem, Kent, vandenBerg, maybe Tyson, T McD (AA?), Watts, Harmes. Anticipating Petracca, Oliver, Hulett & Frost. So with Jones, Bernard & Dunn maintaining their standards, & Goody's attacking style, there's much to look forward to this year! ...again, as I say every year. But this year I really mean it !

If you go to the "Part two" you tube link that Macca provided, there's a poster named Michael Anselmi who says he has the whole match on VHS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejvjb2zQ3ps

3 - 4 years ago I argued strongly here on DL to trade the Russian while he had currency and keep Stef Martin. Mark did his best for us and we probably dropped him at the right time. I feel fine about him doing whatever he wants now, including playing for Essendrug. Thanks for your service and all the best to you Mark!

Realistic guessing, "11-14". Btw, I clicked the "View Results" button and a warning came up that after viewing results I wouldn't be able to vote!?! Curious if that's how it should be?

Barry Sullivan was called Big Goose, "BG" to differentiate him from Little Goose, "LG" their drummer Barry Harvey. This was more amongst band members & friends. Yes they did those gigs you mentioned. LG & I were in another band, also both played briefly in my band in 1973. Unfortunately BG died a few years ago & a year ago I heard LG seems to have dementia!!?! Thinking about booking him for a gig, we spoke on the phone under 3 years ago and he was fine. Nothing lasts forever mate, enjoy it while we can. Rjay just PM'd so I'll write to him that way to avoid boring D'landers with inside muso talk.
-
Haha I like it Tim, err Hardtack! But you can always console yourself by remembering that musical talent doesn't always lead to fame and being famous doesn't always mean being very talented! I only watched the video once, but was surprised to see my friend Barry Sullivan on bass, also known as "Big Goose" who passed away a few years ago. I've only heard personal friends or others in the music business call him "BG" as rjay did, so wonder whether rjay is in the business and was also curious whether other Demonlanders would know what he meant by "BG"?
-
Absolutely rjay! It's great when people can appreciate some of the good players, as opposed to only knowing singers.
