  1. John Giblin did play bass with John Martyn (though don't recall his mentioning it). He invited me to play with some others back then. Giblin played with Brand X, Peter Gabriel (think I helped him get that one), Phil Collins, Kate Bush, Simple Minds, Peter Erskine, various acts from africa, europe, all kinds of music. A superb team player. Don't remember Colin Hodgkinson. Must look him up. Didn't know you were in UK then.
  2. Hahaha Spot on mate, Tim, Hardtack, HT (what do you call someone on DL if you personally know them?) Every game we've seen together we won! The only game I ever saw with another Demonlander (rjay) was our worst thrashing of the year. Coincidence? You be the judge!
  3. Good post Lord T. The club is not at all obliged to explain anything about inner workings of the team to the football world and we're better off keeping them in the dark. In 63 years of watching footy, I've never seen a single player from any team put under the microscope and publicly flogged anywhere near as much and unfairly as Jack Watts has been from day one ! It's been emotional abuse and Jack's admirable handling of it doesn't mean any of us know that it hasn't hurt him deeply and hurt his playing. Many here assume it's water off a ducks back to Jack, but we don't really know that. Roos handled Jack well (kind/supportive) and got results. Even if Jack came back run down, drunk, stoned, with several hookers on the go and told Goodwin to shove it when confronted (none of which probably happened) I think they should have publicly said: "We're resting Jack for a few games to try some new players out." No drama. Privately they should have told him the truth and worked to remedy whatever problem they perceived. Keep the opposition guessing.
  4. Well I'm just really relieved that "this isn't another thread about Jack Watts. "
  5. Apologies for my late reply Earl, haven't posted on DL since then! Would like to have, but didn't work professionally with either of those two. Did play with about 30 bass players 1974 - 1978 in the UK and thought the best in the land was John Giblin. Way under rated, infectious grooves, great listener etc.. Cheers - R
  6. Thanks mate, you too! (.err lets not mention that match we met at!)
  7. Hi HT and rjay. Yes, back then I thought "In the Court of the Crimson King" was a great album! Greg was one of the first people I met after moving to London in 1974. John Wetton came over for a jam one day. Sorry they've gone. Starting to feel a bit old now.
  8. I'd have preferred they wait another year before doing this, but what do I know? NJ is always going to sound proffesional about the situation, he's a real team oriented fellow. I can't discern his inner feelings from this, he'll do whatever's best for MFC.
  9. SEN is previewing each AFL club's best 22. This is their opinion on the MFC:- 2017 AFL PREVIEW: MELBOURNE’S BEST 22 B: Michael Hibberd, Tom McDonald, Neville Jetta HB: Bernie Vince, Oscar McDonald, Jayden Hunt C: Dom Tyson, Jordan Lewis, Clayton Oliver HF: Christian Petracca, Sam Weideman, Dean Kent F: Jack Watts, Jesse Hogan, Jeff Garlett Foll: Max Gawn, Jack Viney, Nathan Jones INT: Jake Melksham, Christian Salem, Angus Brayshaw, Aaron vandenBerg Yes I'm unconfident of Sam and Oscar and would prefer Peder and probably Frost in for them.
  10. Is Oscar really only 82kg as listed on our site? I'll guess that he's put on a little and it'll be updated soon. Anyway even if he's 88kg now (?) I'm still concerned that he'll be too easily brushed aside. KP backs usually weigh between 93kg & 104kg.
  11. 27 minutes ago, Want a Flag said: Why take Harvey as a player. Take him as a part time coach of our small forwards and any other crumbing drills. Saves a place on the list whilst tapping into his knowledge and experience Absolutely agreed Gonzo. And also because players learn things from watching a player alongside them do it, that they can't learn as well from a coach just telling them what to do.
  12. Sure, fair enough Lobster. But that's why i said, " for one year as long as his price is reasonable." Worth a low priced bet I'd say.
  13. I'd definitely take Harvey for one year as long as his price is reasonable. Still got the speed, outside class & goal kicking we need, plus the kids could learn from him. I'll even forgive him for all those times he annihilated us.
  14. Gawn has driven so much of our improvement this year. Another bona-fide ruckman (Spencer is our only other one) should have played 10++ games with him this year. Gawn was burned out today. Ruckmen who have to carry it all alone often only have one great year before burning out, E.G. Jamar 2010. Gawn's needed serious help, and I don't mean someone giving him a "cop out".
  15. 6 Watts 5 Tyson 4 Gawn 3 N Jones 2 Petracca 1 Frost Good from VDB, TMac, Kent
  16. Well I'm thinking that Spencer should be given a chance this year (to play 60/40 ruck/forward). (Loving how dangerous Max looks up forward now.) If Jake can't make a combination with Gawn (which he did in the Geelong game) & we have no-one else ready for next year, maybe a one year deal with Vickery if he costs very little & they think he'll minimize his d---head factor. Dawes should be delisted or traded if anyone will take him.
  17. 6 Gawn 5 Tyson 4 N Jones 3 Watts 2 M Jones 1 Petracca/Frost/TMac/Kent/Garlett
  18. Spencer should be in instead of Dawes. Gawn was our most dangerous forward last week (when in the forward line) and should play forward at least half the game. Spencer's a decent enough ruck now. He deserves a go! It really messed with my hating Dawes' playing after I spent half an hour speaking one on one with him once. Nicest, most intelligent fellow you'll ever meet playing in the AFL. I can understand why Roos likes him, but that's no excuse because we usually lose when he's in the side because his playing is crap.
  19. 6 Viney 5 Gawn 4 Watts 3 TMac 2 Vince 1 Petracca
  20. Good game Jack! Without doubt he's earned and should get a 100th game or more. I'd prefer to rest him next week & play him the following week though, because I fear he tried so hard today, I therefor predict he'll be tired & play worse next week & then be dropped for the rest of the season. Perhaps if we play him the week after next, instead of next week, we'll get more good games from him this year. Just a thought to use our depth to keep a fresher team on the park each week so we don't lose the week following each win. Cheers.
