Why the Eagles messed up the Draft?
I will admit the trade to move up one spot late in the first round was a big head scratcher that i would be fuming about if we had done it.

Why the Eagles messed up the Draft?
What a strange article. I know The Roar isnt exactly a heavy hitter but i'm surprised how far this deviates from a normal article into fan fiction. Eagles fans have never experienced an extended period of time out of finals and they dont understand the pain that some other supporter bases have had. Anyone know what they are talking about with this section? Who can forget our infamous 2018 dodgy deal with Sydney, playing bag-man long enough for them to match a bid on their Academy-linked star, Nick Blakey, without consuming their early pick and getting the Eagles a nice little commission in the process? Ahhhhh, good times.

Behind the scenes on draft night
I've been waiting for this video and feared it wouldnt be produced this year. Fantastic insights into the process. I enjoyed the banter between the team.

I'm guessing Gillard missed out due to missing the start of the year? Whoever got a defender position instead of her must be amazing.

Every so often I watch that video for a laugh. To be fair, Latrelle laid an excellent tackle in his highlights on the club website.

He is a Carlton academy pick. Carlton have positioned themselves to match a bid for him around now. So... No.

Twomey with late mail that we may take Pickett with one of our first two picks. Mentioned that if a club pick Grjl then we likely wont as someone will slide.

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Agree. Although I think in this draft you would be pretty happy picking up a Tom Mitchell. I see calls by some supporters to move Viney to the forward line. He is an inside midfielder. Period. Sure, throw him forward for small periods to switch up things within games, but when kids eventually go past him in the pecking order for the inside midfield spots? He wont be getting picked in the best 24 in another position. You cant have too many of those types anymore. We were already struggling having both Viney and Oliver. I do feel its unkind to Sharp to point out his deficiencies based on current trends. Someone is going to pick him up and get a ripping young kid who could become a future captain. The guy is already beating grown men in the SAFL seniors.

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
The worry is that he is not quick and hasnt got great disposal which isnt the way the modern game is going. I cant help but compare him to a Clayton Oliver type. His pros definitely outway the cons in my opinion, but we already have Viney and now Stelle how are similar types. They wont be around forever but Langford will also move into the middle more who isnt blessed with speed. Having two inside midfielders with limited pace could see us getting beaten by pace. It would also severely limit who we pick up in the future as we would need to compliment them. It would be stupid of Essendon to pass over him. He is exactly what they need and will make an impact from opening round next year.

Dyson Sharp
I really worry about the other aspects of Lindsays game. There is no use having a defender who cannot defend well regardless of how well he kicks. Alas.. I have worries about most players that will be available at our picks.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
At the bottom of Twomeys phantom he has club by club summaries. Collingwood keen to trade their future 1st for Sharp. A few posters are worried that Essendon will leave him knowing we wont take him. They could then get him with Carlton's pick. That wont happen now. Personally I would be happy Sharp. I feel his limitations are being exaggerated. All players around our picks have some weaknesses. It would pigeon hole us though. We would be forced to draft a speedy mid to complement him this year or the next.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Anyone mentioned Harley Baker? Went down with an ACL and will be missing most of next year but looks like an solid outside player. Twomey has him 22 in power rankings. I wonder how much his ACL has made him slide.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
His hair has been receding for years now and he does what he can with what he has. Is it really necessary to call it out?

Sam Cumming
It's funny because I remember Sparrow having an explosive burst was one of his main attributes when drafted. Not that I disagree with anything you said. I would add that his football I.Q looks way higher and his ability to link up through the midfield chains looks much better too.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
To be fair to Cal. The majority of players were picked around where he thought they would be.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Of course. Most posters here have a lot of faith in JT and we are always just waiting to see what he will do knowing its the job he is paid to do. You have to remember that the draft period used to be the greatest day of the year for a lot of Demon fans as we had very little to cheer about for a decade. We are conditioned to scouring the draft boards and picking our favorites. We enjoy casting judgement on 3min videos of one or two games. Its all meaningless fun. All our conversations wont change anything and in JT was trust.

- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Cal Twomey has said that this year will see a record low number of draft picks used. Other media outlets (Herald Sun, ESPN) have said the same thing. It's shallow. There are no standout top talent like other years, like a Harley Reid (2023) or Sam Darcy, JHF, Nick Daicos (2021). There is a real lack of key position players. The WA cohort is reported as the worst its ever been. 2024 was reported to be a stronger/deeper draft with good key position players but was also reported that the there was no standout top picks. That worked out fine for us and all I care about is that our top two picks this year are at the top end before the more speculative picks come into play. I'm really looking forward to see who Jason Taylor will pick. I think the only kid I dont really want is Schubert as he isnt a need. Also intrigued to see if we trade up for Robey. I think the price of the trade might be too much though.- Aidan Schubert
I cant shake the feeling that Mitch Marsh will be one of those players who always carves us up.- Welcome to Demonland: Latrelle Sumner-Pickett
