Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)
Jaded No More replied to baysidedave's topic in Melbourne Demons
If our feelings as supporters rubbed off on players, our players would have beaten goddamn North Melbourne by now, and flattened Brent Harvey in the process. How we feel and think as a supporter group should have nothing to do with player performance. We turn up every week and we cheer as loud as anyone when we win. We also express our displeasure when we lose, but compared to other supporters, we are mild. I don't see our supporters spitting and giving our players the fingers when they lose. We also rarely boo the team, and boy do they deserve to be booed from time to time for their disgusting lack of effort. I wonder how our players would feel if they played for Richmond or Collingwood and were on the type of losing streak we've been on. They wouldn't be able to walk down the street without being "veiled by negativity". I find the whole idea completely dumb, and I think Roos has run out of excuses, so he's using supporter mindset. He knows he can't blame the past anymore and that ultimately he is responsible. He is responsible for lifting moral and changing the negative mindset within the club. Then watch our quickly supporters change from negative to positive! -
He can be filthy but he needs to learn to reign that in on gameday. It's a bad look and it doesn't help anything. It just makes him look like a petulant child who won't share his toys. I get that playing with a bunch of morons who can't kick to a lead, and having your space taken by your own teammates is annoying. But you deal with it in team meetings and at the breaks. You don't throw a hissy fit on the field, it's completely unprofessional and achieves nothing. Yes Hogan is an amazing talent, but it is his first season. If I was Cross and he yelled at me, I'd tell him to go stick it.
-
Amen He might be correct, but for gods sake why bring more negative attention to the club?! You Paul are exactly the type of negative supporter Roos doesn't want to hear from anymore. Just shut it. You had your turn, you didn't succeed. Move on.
-
The one area we have improved on drastically under Roos is contested possession differentials, which is certainly an "effort based" statistic. Having said that, our effort around the ground and in centre clearances was deplorable on Sunday. In fact our centre clearance set ups are pretty questionable, and we often have no idea how to rove Gawn's hitouts.

Brett Ratten's son killed in car crash.
Jaded No More replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just wanted to bump this for some much needed perspective Heart breaking stuff watching Ratten speak at his sons funeral. What a tragedy when a parent has to bury their child. -
Makes you sick doesn't it. Well done Melbourne, so kind of you to let crap teams get free wins.

A champion of this club who has suffered more than most. His competitiveness and loyalty is amazing and I wish that the next 100 games of his career are a hell of a lot more successful than the last 200 have been. Absolutely deserves success, and his teammates putting in a good effort this week.

Father's Day v GWS - who will be there?
Jaded No More replied to defuture15's topic in Melbourne Demons
Depends what my dad would like to do I personally don't give two shits anymore and I hate that stadium and would rather not waste another weekend feeling like crap after a poor performance. -
I don't think Roos will rest players because of the "we're gonna get spanked" mentality, but I don't think that Brayshaw and ABN are going to do us much good when neither can run out a game. Brayshaw is absolutely stuffed, he is going to be a gun, and it would be a shame to break him down now. He has dropped off significantly and obviously needs a break. At best I'd make him the sub. Might also be safe to keep Hogan away from Perth... he may choose not to come back. This game is over before it has even begun. Selection is not going to matter, but it's telling that the players who put in the most effort yesterday are those with careers on the line. Might not be the worst idea to give some of the kids a break, and play the battlers who are desperate to prove themselves one last time. They might turn it over 100 times, but at least they'll try. Would also really love to give Jones a break and not make him play his 200th in Perth and in a monumental loss. Probably deserves better.

6 wins is a fail, pure and simple. 8 wins would have been a pass. Yes we won games we didn't expect, but we lost so many games we absolutely should have won. To lose to Essendon and Carlton this year is unacceptable, and we barely beat Brisbane. The lack of consistent effort is what hurts. We have shown glimpses, but we did that under Bailey too, with some massive wins and upsets. Have we improved since the days of Neeld, yes? Is that an achievement to be proud of? no. It's like being at rock bottom and not digging yourself an even deeper hole. Well done, you haven't gotten worse and you climbed up a few inches only to fall back down. We hold some of the most embarrassing records in league history, especially when it comes to winning 2 games in a row. I see positive signs in Hogan, Brayshaw, Salem, Viney, but then I think why would these players stick around, or worse, not follow their current leaders and become the same inconsistent bunch of players they currently look up to? To still be leaving games of football after so many years wanting more effort, is unacceptable. I do not care how young the list is, effort should never be questioned, and sadly with our team it's been in question for a decade and nobody has given us answers or solutions.

His kid is almost 1 years old... I highly doubt it!

I appreciate that Roos replied and took some of the responsibility, as it is absolutely his job to get the team up to play each week. Obviously not something he is used to, as when he was up at Sydney and worked with a bunch of professional athletes who actually took pride in their job, he probably didn't need to tell them to turn up to games. It's actually disgusting that our players need to be urged to try and play hard. I get that the season is over, and we can't make finals, but futures are on the line, and wouldn't it be nice to finish closer to 8th than 18th for once? Take some momentum into pre-season? Actually take pride in our performances? Imagine if us plebs who earn not even a quarter of what these guys earned had to be told to turn up to work and try? In most normal jobs, the conversations would go something like this "turn up, or you're fired". At the MFC it's "what excuse can we use this week to explain why we didn't turn up to work".
-
Agreed- it's total garbage and a cop out Of the above list; Bail, Jetta, Jamar did not play and Grimes and Watts were among our better players
-
And so it begins I'm sure if he requests a trade the club will request 3 first round picks and an A grade midfielder. Good luck to him leaving until he's a free agent.
-
That was clearly a joke I don't think you'll find me having a go at Watts very often on here, and I thought he was OK today
-
I hope Jack Watts does an interpretative dance to go along with the written apology.
-
I don't disagree, but I would like an honest explanation for once. Are the players done? They had enough of the season? Is everyone still sick? Or are they just sick in the head? We sat through years of gutless performances and Mark Neeld told me "it is what it is". Well I say to the club "it is what it is when I don't spend yet another $400 next year to watch us lose" This club can't expect supporters to keep giving, if all we get in return are abhorrent weak performances. I need a reason other than Jesse Hogan and Angus Brayshaw, two players who will probably walk out on this club soon, to keep going and paying my fees. Right now, I have none.

Our senior players and Leadership - Pathetic!
Jaded No More replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cross might be slowing but he is the only leader who puts in every week and doesn't drop his head. Jones, if injured, is doing himself and the team a massive disservice. Vince got ahead of himself and done nothing for a month. Dunn in has always been damn ordinary and that he is our vice captain is laughable. This club is going nowhere fast. Tom McDonald looks a broken men. Another gun young player who will walk out on this club and who can blame him. Him and Hogan will leave and take Brayshaw and Salem with them. -
And this is why Cross gets another year. Head first while the rest of our players cruise around attempting one armed tackles.
-
Look alive Stretch. Poor bloody effort
-
Only against Melbourne do complete [censored] spuds like Buckley and Everit have good games And [censored] off Garlett. Useless today and completely costly. Get [censored] Melbourne, you are a pathetic heartless gutless bunch of losers and you are embarrasing this once great club.
-
Moron Newton. Zero awareness. 2 down on the bench and we are still slow and second to the ball Wtf is wrong with Nathan Jones?? Hogan can't even take a mark. We are cooked.
-
Oh my god we are so bad. Kicking inside 50 is a joke. Game over We are seriously the most embarrasing team in the competition.
