Probably 30 years ago a player who was less than 178 cm (5 foot 10 inches) and less than 78 kg would not get a look in at AFL clubs because they were considered to be too small but last 2 years the mindset has changed by coaches and smaller players who put on tackle pressure and dispose of the ball well have become the norm not the exception. Both Richmond and Western Bulldogs have created the current trend with smaller quick players playing a roll in the forward line where tackling pressure has allow the ball to remain in the forward half putting pressure on the defenders to make mistakes which result in scoring opportunities. I am not saying Spargo will make it or not but the Football Department has selected him and we should back their judgement for the time being before criticizing them. If you were told that Charlie Spargo was a top 5 - 10 selection before you knew how tall he was you would compliment the Football Department on their astute selection.

Yes you can have 6 category A rookies if the main list is 38, the total of the main list and rookies cannot exceed 44. Thus if Melbourne uses only 3 picks the it can pick a category A rookie.

Maybe he was told that he wont be on the list next year and was going through the motions of playing. I know that some players become despondent when they are told they are not required the effort and energy is sapped by the emotion. I remember when I was a young man and informed by a VFL club that I was too small and the effect it has has on you.

If the sample of the highlights are the best of Petruccelle then the AFL should have not extracted them for they are not very flattering. Never the less they are now out there and if Viney, Taylor and Co are interested then he may be a slider because of the highlights.

The picture of Seb's build is similar to Jack Viney before he was drafted via the father and son, I read the article and I believe he is 182cm at the combine so he has the size and the pedigree to make a good footballer. The only question is he able to go from school/U18 football to AFL. I would draft him if the choice came down to 2 players (he and another).

I think T Viney and/or Taylor should talk to Jordan Lewis and get his opinion whether to get him as DFA ?

I spent 35 years in the field of athletics and have no knowledge of a athlete trained by David Mission. I believe David is doing the job as he did for the Swans and St Kilda but the football played a decade ago has changed and the current version needs a different fitness set. I believe that David has run his race and a more modern fitness person should be put in charge, we have that person on staff his name is Daniel Cross.

You do realise the world record for 3k Steeple chase for women is 8:52:78 so 9:45 is not that great for a professional footballer who is an endurance runner. And running and jumping steeples and a water jump is much harder than flat running. When I was a junior I ran 1 mile(1616 meters) on grass in bare feet in the time of 5:05 which was not that great. I did not train every day. My son who was a decathlete ran 1500 meters after doing 10 events in 2 days in the time of 4:35 he was mainly a sprinter.

The 18 round competition where played with every team playing each other in rounds 1 to 11 and rounds 12 to 18 were played against same teams as for rounds 1 to 7.
