  1. The new order has us picks 45 and 49 ? I cannot understand why this has happened? Can anyone explain
  2. I would not be surprised if they recruit Burton at 7? Who might be the next Jake Springer
  3. Anybody who is about 1.93 metres and can run sub 2.80 seconds for 20 metres is seriously fast.
  4. I think this trade period was very good, with the news of signing a Rookie B (Joel Smith), the rating Wallace gave was an A- maybe he would have amended that to an A had he know that a new wrinkle had occured.
  5. I would not pick Weiderman since he will be like Howe and try to get to Collingwood asap, it is in his DNA.
  6. Mitch Clark was not at melbourne when this match happened.
  7. I have not been to training for some years but I went to one at Moorabbin in Neeld/Craig last year and told Neeld/Craig after training I thougth the level was poor and very unstructured with most assistant coach goofing off and not doing their jobs. So if the new training methods mean the assistants doing some teaching/work this would be a change in itself. The training session I attended was about 2 weeks before the NAB cup. I was not surprised the team performed so poorly for the year. We supporters seem to watch training with rose coloured glasses, I find that people who say something negative are attacked and made to look stupid. By the way when my son was 19 he ran 5K in less than 16 minutes and he was a decathlete who's strengths were 100's and explosive events. So running 3K in over 12 minutes is reasonably poor.
  8. In 1964 Tassie did not play in the ruck because Graham Wise rucked all day, he played in the back pocket next to Crompton and Massey. Don Williams was selected in the centre.
  9. Those of us who are old enough can remember a great Athlete who's training consisted of running 100 x 100 metres and the breaking the world record for the 800 metres in Mexico City in 1968 his coach believed that you get fitter by using this training method. The coach was successful with other athletes using this method but it does not work with everyone. This form of mental and physical punishment is great provided you have the talent to be the best.
  10. The fact that he was still trying to run show some G&D and shows how determined he was to finish the session. Those who compare him to Sylvia should realise that Sylvia would just have stopped and blamed the lack of fitness on some injury or partying on the weekend.
  11. Except you don't count Billy twice only 9 in.
  12. For those who think that we people over 65 are old they should remember we have seen the MFC win the Flag, in fact Melbourne won 7 flags in my life time. I saw 6 of them. And my first car was a Anglia Coupe with a crank handle so that we could start the car whenever the battery went flat. RACV was not very large at the time.
  13. Most people on this site question Wright's physicality but some time junior players who are very big don't show physicality because they believe they will hurt the smaller players. If this is the case with Wright then when he gets to the AFL he will release the beast and will become an exceptional player. This is a big if whilst McCartin does not care whether he hurt small players and has shown some c..t. I am a great believer in players who have this are going to be better players than the timid type like Gysbert, Morton, Blease and Watts. In junior footy the players who read the play like Gysbert Morton and Blease standout because their opponents don't play close checking football once they get to senior football the game changes and these type of players fail.
  14. The recruiters will make the call unless 2 players are =3 best as far as they are concerned and then the coach will decide the player we will pick with our 3 pick. I trust the judgement of the recruiters because this year the coach has also seen some of the prospective recruits in action when he watched the Tyler Roos games. I also think he would have asked Tyler his opinions regrading opposition players.
  15. The lad has a very strong legs and runs low to the ground like Sam Mitchell, Ollie Wines and Joel Selwood these attributes are important in an inside midfielder when moving thru traffic. This attributes is important when withstanding a takle and dish off the ball. The fact that he can kick with both feet makes him almost the perfect inside midfielder. With some experience and good advice from his coaches I believe he will become one of the best midfielders in the game within the next 3 years.
  16. The players that have failed at Melbourne with potential have all been recruited by other clubs and the underlining theme with all these players was their attitude. One of the players recruited by West Coast commented that he did not realise how hard you had to train to become a AFL player. The coaches who tried to get players to train harder and run both ways seem to get resistance from the player rather than buying in. Blease has now realised his dream of being a successful AFL player is fast disappearing and has finally taken the step to build up is endurance. While at Melbourne he was satisfied with half hearted efforts. The players who want to be AFL footballers and have what it takes have a fiierce attitude to training and playing.
  17. Recruiters sometimes are overruled by the coach when they get a chance to select a player. The example was when we recruited Molan, Craig Cameron wanted Del Santo. This is not being clever but sometimes the blame may lay with the coach. The player selected has to have a bit of luck re-injury and then have the application to want to improve and become the player the club desires. Sometimes player don't buckle down and do the work until it is too late eg Blease. Sometimes the art of picking players is not a science but a gut feel, I spoke to Ray Jordan once about the type of players he wanted and he said they should have a bit of c..t about them. So we should respect that Taylor Viney and Roos will get the best players available who ever they maybe. Brayshaw and Stetch have already been exposed to Roos methods last year and know what to expect. So pick 3 is the unknown, my selection has not been mentioned by anyone to date so I will keep the selection to myself.
  18. Melbourne's record in picking talls in the first round is nothing short of poor. Just Molan, Lucas, Clark and Watts to name a few. I think each time a mid was better value.
  19. I don't pretend to know all the players but I just watched the highlights of Tom Lamb and he is very impressive. I played with players like McCartin in junior football and found they get found out at senior level because they usually monster players who have very little body strength but once the get to senior level the player punch from behind and have players taking up space infront of them. Lever unfortunately did not play last year so there is very little to go on.
  20. Happy wife, happy life and it may help when he renews his contract?
  21. Schimmelbush was sacked in the pre-season and Pagan took over.
  22. The only stat that matters is the one on the scoreboard all the others only show how the result was attained.
  23. I believe the term low impact when a person who weights over 100kg gets punched like that and gets decked the force has to be greater than low impact. The fact that he was not injured should never be taken into account.
