  1. I agree with picking Green/Young at 3 but pick 8/9/10 will depend on who is left out of the following they are not in any selection order Kemp/Stephens/Serong/Ash/Flanders/Robertson/McAstey etc, but if Kemp is there they should take him.
  2. He is 19 years old and 204cm ruckmen(ex basketballers) mature at a different rate to smaller midfielders because they have get used to the clash of bodies which does not happen in basketball as much, I would not write him off as yet. If he shows no progess by the time he reaches 21/22 then maybe he is a good basketballer who never made it in the AFL. His father was a very good Australian basketballer who never made it to the NBA and his mother was a very good tennis player which is not a contact sport and she never won a major title although we made it to a semi-final.
  3. The draft period was ok with 2 good players in and one out, good picks in the draft but we must stick them. Remember from the last match we had the following players missing May, KK, Aaron VDB, Tom Mc, Weid's, Joel Smith, Hannan, Jetta. The players KK, Aaron VDB, Nietschle and Joel Smith virtually did not play so they like new recuits. When Joel got injured against Richmond in the pre-season he was playing as a foward and kicked 4 goals on 1 leg. My picks are Young, Kemp and maybe Martin. If we get these players back from injury and picks are good then the draft was great
  4. Lockhart was very good considering he was recuited on the eve of the season's start and no pre-season with the MFC
  5. The problem is we are great in hind sight so we just develop the player we got, to the best of his ability and move on.
  6. He coached in SA
  7. I was part of the reform group and also a trainer at the MFC he was a dope who was on the board before convincing the board to appoint him as coach. He believed that fitness was playing football from day one of training so the players just did not run hard because they had no fitness base to backup the football program. He did not work on their skills but did circuit training like in the 50's. A pathetic coach and poor tactician at the end of the season he still believed he was the best coach in the VFL
  8. He's a protected species by the tribunal where anyone else would have got 1 week, the AFL made the head knocks unacceptable no matter how hard the elbow to the region behind the ear the scull is much thinner and the player could have suffered a lot of damage.
  9. Jack Martin from Gold Coast Suns
  10. I think Cox of Collingwood is the poster boy for B Rookies but Smith is very handy and still learning his craft as a forward or back.
  11. Peter Hudson was a much better version of West Coast Eagle's Kennedy and was one of the greatest FF in any era. He was a long kick and was very accurate I had a friend who played with him in Tasmania and he said his kicking technique was developed to be able to kick goals when the wind was blowing a gale.
  12. He was more than a decoy because in 1963 he kicked 48 goals which by today's standards is dam good for a small forward.
  13. Provided he performs to an acceptable level this year he will play in the one's otherwise he will be playing at Casey. I have followed the MFC since 1952 and I have seen great sides but the potential of these players exceeds the 1954-1964 teams although teams don't always play on potential. The 1953 team was a young team which had great potential and turned into the greatest era of the MFC hopefully this team will play with the more fire and passion and convert the potential to the ultimate success in the 2019 season and beyond.
  14. Supporters of opposition clubs always use some way to justify their club allowing players to go. Bomber supporters said the same about Melksham to feel good about their team letting a player go.
  15. For those who were not around when the great Norm Smith was coach he believed the best small defenders were midfielders who had run their course in midfield. When MFC recruited Stuart Spencer as a back pocket player he stated to Stuart he was too young to play there and he made him a rover who became on of the AFL's great rovers.
  16. My Grandson who is 7 ran a 2K in cross country in 8 minutes 54 seconds so it must have been the time of the day.
  17. I think Bedford should be Truck
  18. I read somewhere that Toby would go around 40-50 in the draft?
  19. I hope he is as good as the other pick 53 we have on our list?
  20. Maybe we can call him Captain Jack
  21. May will play better football without the responsibility of being the Captain I believe he will blossom without it since he wont feel the pressure of trying to do something special to lift the team. Teams rarely make Full Backs Captain.
  22. I think the MFC recruiters had miss givings about Gaff after the incident with Andrew and what effect it may have on Angus, if they recruited Gaff. A happy team is a good team
  23. The player who could be a key forward is Petracca who could do what Jakovich did in the 90's with Preuss in the pocket al la Bob Johnson or Mason Cox. Play him 1 on 1 in the goal square and he could be a sensation
  24. He has played on the forward line before so if one of our KPF go down he is an option to replace them since our KPB stocks are plentiful.
  25. I think Dom Tyson was unfortunately left behind with the development of Clayton Oliver last season and this season Angus Brayshaw and James Harmes. With the return of AVB and Petracca's involvement in the center square. With his development stagnating he became a player the MFC could trade and get someone like Brayden who will now be backup and possible 2nd ruck in some games.
