I agree Adam that it was the right call, but it gets frustrating to hear Neeld bang on about our inexperienced list needing more time, then watch experienced players such as Rivers and Beamer walk out. I think Riv is a big loss, and I believe Moloney should have smartened up and done what was asked of him. Neeld said he was required but that we couldn't match Brissy's offer - well I think the compo we got for him says our offer must have been next to nothing. When a player and the senior coach lock horns, who do you think is going to go? Was always going to be Beamer.

Not arguing with you on the fact that Jack has not been as good as we had hoped. I agree. A lot of contributions to this thread which are constructive have pointed out that we have poorly developed him and many others. We seem to 'Melbournise' the high draft picks very quickly. I severely doubt NN would have been developed any better than Jack, if he would still be at MFC beyond his first 2 yrs, that is. Jack did play some very good games last year, the one against the Swans comes to mind. But he's not going to provide the highlights reel that NN does. If that's what you want Retro, so be it. Hindsight's great for mud slinging, eh?

Not sticking up for Jack necessarily, as he's fallen well below what we hoped for, but you forgot to mention all the other games where Nic Nat had one or two highlights then went missing for 3.5 quarters. Or that Nic Nat is about one full year older than Watts. But of course, that would spoil your cheap, snapshot example of how easy it is to be a draft expert with the help of hindsight. Sorry, but being no worse than what we have already doesn't hold water. We nee LOTS of high quality, experienced people on board. What people management skills and experience does the Ox bring? He's a media personality FFS. The only reason he'd be smart enough to seek advice is because he's he has no real smarts himself. Don't get me wrong, I really loved the Ox as a player and love the way he supports the club and wears his heart on his sleeve, but that's about it. No thanks.

In theory, the risks we have with losing a FA elsewhere are the same we have with potentially gaining a FA. Go hard at other FAs and give Silvia an offer that is reasonable for where he is at. Has he delivered on his promise yet? No. Is he likely to with us? Who knows, probably 50/50. Should we die wondering or let him go? If we get adequate compo, and gain another FA with good experience, I won't mind. What I think would hurt us most is the loss of experience in a young side.

If Dawes and Hogan were doing well, and Gawn moves to first ruck, i'd be temped to use Clark as Gawn's support and trade Jamar or perhaps Frawley with a second round pick for Sheils. If Daisey is tempted by a fat pay cheque, get him as a FA. What about Dal Santo? Or has he re signed? Le Cras?

I would've thought with Mitch out, Fitzy could be given a solid 5-6 games deep in the square. One or two games will be useless for his development. If he's to be kept he needs a decent run of games. Dawes, Gawn and Fitzy: might straighten us up.
