Port have had quite a few major issues and events that could also see it put in the too hard basket, which many in the media industry (FWIW) have put us in. While not parallel, there are current similarities with Port to MFC of the last 12-18 mths. Low on cash Low membership No coach and assistants on thin ice Struggling to keep star players (but Boak re-signed) Death of someone within the club Low on ladder Add the AFL taking over their licence from the SA State comp. Port have not yet had the type of scrutiny that Neeld received this year, or events out of the blue, such as LJs court case or the Energy Watch debacle. However, my point is that these things add up to destabalise a club significantly and high quality coaches, players and administrators may be very reluctant to join up.

I think good assistants who see themselves as 'career' coaches are far more discerning nowadays. They know that no matter how good they think they are, that an awful 2-3 years at a struggling, poor club can effectively kill your career.

But isn't F/S bidding completed before the player trading period even begins?

Gutsy player who gave everything he had. Not super talented, but put himself on the line repeatedly. Sounds like he gave his all at Casey as well. Shame we can't convince him to sell the nursery and take up a full time midfield assistant role at MFC. Would be a very good asset to the FD. Hope his son is a cracker.

No thanks. Worth too much money - I'm guessing several million. Would need to spend a bit to renovate to a reasonable standard. If the Pies can't make a fist of running a bunch of pubs and poke venues with all of their cash and resources, I wouldN't want us doing the same. Where would this cash come from? Let's make a success of our current assets before going into significant debt again. Maybe you could buy it for the club.......

Ch 10 news just reported that the Dees apparently have a 2 yr deal on offer to Byrnes as a RFA

Howcroft is a very smart operator. I wonder if MFC has use of his marketing expertise. Pardon my ignorance, but what do the MFC board members actually do? Do the have an active, hands-on input into the running of the club or do they just ratify recommendations?

Do you mean Rich are circling GWS players or vice versa? And aren't their picks from last year on standard 2 year deals, which means they are still contracted? GWS can refuse to part with the player.
