An insider's POV - Comments from Russell Robertson

Didn't Jackson make the call to end Sheedy's rein at Essendon? Tough decision to make, given the Sheedy legacy at Windy Hill. -

He is definitely slower, and is still building his tank after a number of major injury interrupted years, but his enthusiasm the last couple of weeks has been good. And his kicking looks back to its deep, penetrating best. Remember a couple of seasons ago when he often tried those little up 'n under 10m passes that travelled at half rat pace? Not doing them anymore. The article in the paper last week when he talked of his renewed passion? this has shown on the field recently. When I saw Davey's kicks spearing towards a teammate 40-50m away over the last couple of weeks, I instantly realised how important elite delivery by foot is and how bad we are at that in general. If Davey continues to improve over the 2nd half of the season, I'd be happy to see him offered another year. After all, how many A grade kicks do we have? Two, maybe 3 at the most. The Hawks would have 15+, I reckon. -

Matt Jones slow and not very passionate?! Don't get excited?! WTF? He's been a great find for a speculative pick. The boy can play. I think the FD have done very well with late picks. Pedersen has taken 25 marks at CHB over last 2 wks at Casey. He has form. Frawley will want out if Neeld is sacked. Silvia too. They are behind Neeld. More will leave if Neeld is pushed out than if he stays. Why aren't we trying to get Hogan signed to a 5 yr deal like GCS did with Martin? -

Given the discussion on Beamer's departure, it will be interesting to see how he goes tonight against the rolls royce Magpie midfield. Can he perform against a quality opposition? -

The experience part of the coaching mix is Craig. He's overlooking everything that Neeld does. These two are inseparable a lot of the time. I think Craig is a true mentor to Neeld in the sense that he's not telling him what to do, but guiding and explaining. We don't have the quality and fitness in our list that Freo has. Except for Nate Jones, we have no midfielders that would get a game with them IMO, and they'd be playing Toumpas and Viney in the ressies this year for development rather than throwing them into the deep end. -
But you voted 19+, JR?

Are we talking goals or women?

Don't understand the logic of selecting Howe at CHF and then playing him as the spare man at full back for a large chunk of the game. If that's Neeld's way of stemming the flood of goals, by dropping players back, then he'll need the whole team crowded around Hawthorn's goal square. I'm hoping Fitzy gets a shot in the fwd line and bags 3 goals. Think he deserves 5-6 games to see what he can offer. Has done well at Casey for a while now.

In defence of Collingwood supporters...

Not sure if someone else posted the link to this article... http://www.theage.com.au/executive-style/culture/blogs/all-men-are-liars/getting-real-about-racism-20130529-2nb9h.html Well worth a read and it makes some very valid points. Eddie will get off very, very lightly, I'm affraid. -

The (hypothetical) Demonland MFC Board Election Ticket
Moonshadow replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Deeluded would surely be in there at the board meetings, but keep him out of the whiskey cabinet. -
Not sure we are the best club in terms of leaders and strong team culture for him. But hey, why not - beggars can't be choosers, it would appear.

I've heard Pagan do a couple of speaking gigs and chatted to him afterwards. Fascinating guy, very clever and great dry wit. Tells a wonderful story. Next coach? No thanks. Well past his best in that regards.
-
Sure, much of what he says has an element of truth to it. But speaking poorly of your ex club (where you severely under performed) while not getting a game at your new club (ie. still severely under performing) to me is just plain dumb. In any other workplace, that kind of talk in his position would be unacceptable and he'd be dressed down by the bosses String together 10-12 good games for WCE Cale before commenting upon where you think we are at. Actually, now I think of it, the last ex MFC player to speak poorly of us after stringing together a number of good games was Brock McLean, and look where that got us........

Agreed. Fitz needs a run of games to gain momentum and confidence. He's played well at Casey of late. He's earned an opportunity, but don't drop him after 1, 2 or 3 games. He needs 5-6 or more for his worth to be assessed more accurately. God, were giving numerous games to so many who don't produce, why not give Fitz a go?

Reckon Neeld will have Haw and Coll before a decision is made. Either he goes around the time of the bye or they'll give him to the end of the year. God who'd want the job as caretaker...
-
Great match. What a finish. If only....
-
Dunn is done. Throw him back to Casey.
-
Nearly as bad as your spelling DS.
-
And again. Hannath. Easy goal. No Dee in sight.
-
Once again, Melb players jogging after their opponents, 20m behind easy mark in the goal sqr and plops thru another. Your man Evans.
-
The guy that's touched it 16 times half way into the last? I guess that's about 10 times more than his average last year.
-
Would be a very, very big task. Worth a try, though.

I will expect those anti-Neeld doomsayers on here to STFU for at lest one week.
