I remember the days when I counted anything less than a 10 goal loss as bit of a win

Just quietly though Powell-Pepper is pretty handy for a first year player. Good size, strength, aggressiveness and footy skills. Wouldn’t mind him in the red and blue.

If that is right that makes me very happy

If the Trengove of 2011/12 turned up he would stroll back into our current best 22. The Jack from five seasons ago was Bartel-like with his marking, could run all day, could read the play, had above average disposal and could kick 50m. Aside from his leadership qualities he was made captain because he was a very good player. Asde from the obvious emotional desire for a Phoenix rebirth a fully fit and firing Trengove could give us pretty much a free hit at a bloody good player. It still freaks me out to think he is only 25. I would be tempted to give him one more season to see where it takes him.

Looking ahead ... the Path to September

Yes it is difficult to see how we can get top 4 but there is a good chance we will play Richmond in the first week which is almost the same as getting the double chance -
Hibberd! (but I take your point)

Does anyone else laugh when watching the speed Oliver gets ball, makes a decision of where to send it too and then disposes of it. Breathtaking

Jack Viney is quite good

No idea but I remember Goodwin saying on his awards night that ‘failure is no match for perseverance’ and it made me think of Jack T and his unrelenting battle against injury. Google solved it from there.

Yes you get the feeling that when Nev speaks others listen

Whilst we were woeful as a club over the time that Jurrah was with us I actually think we handled his unique situation very well. He was a brilliantly talented but self propelled train wreck that I doubt any other club would have got any more than the 38 mercurial games that we got out of him.

I so so so hope the playing Richmond in the first week of finals comes true. We will kill them. -

I dislike Essendon with a passion. I don't understand why the players re-signed contracts with them after what the club did to them. I don't understand why their supporters keep going back for more and I certainly don't understand why anyone on this board would want to see them play finals. * I do quite like Ash, the Bomber supporter, who occasionally posts on here though so that confuses me a bit -
I'm pretty sure freebees and the $1 memberships given out by the Saints (?) earlier this year don't count. You have to have paid $50 or $60 for it to be an official member. By the way I thought those $1 memberships (pay the balance later) were quite clever as the Club got the contact details of prospective new members. Perhaps something the new sexier Melbourne could try this year.

After the dross our club dished up for the past decade 41,700 paid up members is a brilliant number. As a 50+ year old I do marvel at the number of younger supporters who attend our games. There are lots. Good on them and may they soon be rewarded for their bravery.

A bit harsh on Jetta, Hermes and A.N.B but fair otherwise

The population of Darwin is 140,000. If they get 14,000 there it would mean every 1 in 10 at the game. That is pretty impressive

John Safran once visited the Walt Disney museum and put up little known facts about Walt such as he was a supporter of Hitler to see if anyone would notice. I feel like Colin Robertson has been snuck onto that list. Anyone else having trouble remembering him?

At 19 I yelled some very unkind words over the fence at Warrick Capper and that footage made the news. I wasn't to know it at the time but it was my 15 seconds of fame. I sort of regret it. Sort of

It's funny how we can see the same game yet obviously see things quite differently, particularly as I rate your opinion. I thought Hannan was far from the worst for us. Perhaps it had something to do with me watching it on the tele. I

They do too, I had not noticed. It's like a very slow moving mexican wave. We have all probably been dismayed with Jack at times over the years with his occasional lack of "go". But that hard, long sprint after 99 minutes of unbelievably tough footy to put himself in the position to kick the winning goal would have taken a lot of courage. It would have been far easier just to call for Harmes to centre the ball but he gut ran to the better option instead.

I thought Rich was the ducks nuts in his first couple of seasons. That laser left foot of his is a real weapon. Can go over defences and hit up a target. But as others have said he is slow and if he can't find space his value is negligible. Daniel turns 28 next year so would be close to his twilight years for any team to pick him up. He should see out his career as a one club player

James Strauss typifies Melbourne of that era Selcted at 19 in the draft which was way above where he should have gone Shoulder reconstruction First AFL game and he is given the kicking out duties against a rampaging Hawthorn outfit. First game! The Hawks were rightly all over him and I'm guessing his confidence was shot. Nothing is ever made of this but it is a far, far worse debut than the Watts debacle. Breaks leg horrendously after colliding with (Carltons) Jeff Garlett. So so a combination of incredible bad luck and amateur hour stuff from our club. None of which was Strauss's fault

Swans look all up and about now but reckon the roles will be reversed next time when we are fresh and with a full team in September.
