  1. No idea but I remember Goodwin saying on his awards night that ‘failure is no match for perseverance’ and it made me think of Jack T and his unrelenting battle against injury. Google solved it from there.
  2. "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence"
  3. Yes you get the feeling that when Nev speaks others listen
  4. Whilst we were woeful as a club over the time that Jurrah was with us I actually think we handled his unique situation very well. He was a brilliantly talented but self propelled train wreck that I doubt any other club would have got any more than the 38 mercurial games that we got out of him.
  5. I so so so hope the playing Richmond in the first week of finals comes true. We will kill them.
  6. I dislike Essendon with a passion. I don't understand why the players re-signed contracts with them after what the club did to them. I don't understand why their supporters keep going back for more and I certainly don't understand why anyone on this board would want to see them play finals. * I do quite like Ash, the Bomber supporter, who occasionally posts on here though so that confuses me a bit
  7. I'm pretty sure freebees and the $1 memberships given out by the Saints (?) earlier this year don't count. You have to have paid $50 or $60 for it to be an official member. By the way I thought those $1 memberships (pay the balance later) were quite clever as the Club got the contact details of prospective new members. Perhaps something the new sexier Melbourne could try this year.
  8. After the dross our club dished up for the past decade 41,700 paid up members is a brilliant number. As a 50+ year old I do marvel at the number of younger supporters who attend our games. There are lots. Good on them and may they soon be rewarded for their bravery.
  9. A bit harsh on Jetta, Hermes and A.N.B but fair otherwise
  10. The population of Darwin is 140,000. If they get 14,000 there it would mean every 1 in 10 at the game. That is pretty impressive
  11. John Safran once visited the Walt Disney museum and put up little known facts about Walt such as he was a supporter of Hitler to see if anyone would notice. I feel like Colin Robertson has been snuck onto that list. Anyone else having trouble remembering him?
  12. At 19 I yelled some very unkind words over the fence at Warrick Capper and that footage made the news. I wasn't to know it at the time but it was my 15 seconds of fame. I sort of regret it. Sort of
  13. It's funny how we can see the same game yet obviously see things quite differently, particularly as I rate your opinion. I thought Hannan was far from the worst for us. Perhaps it had something to do with me watching it on the tele. I
  14. They do too, I had not noticed. It's like a very slow moving mexican wave. We have all probably been dismayed with Jack at times over the years with his occasional lack of "go". But that hard, long sprint after 99 minutes of unbelievably tough footy to put himself in the position to kick the winning goal would have taken a lot of courage. It would have been far easier just to call for Harmes to centre the ball but he gut ran to the better option instead.
  15. I thought Rich was the ducks nuts in his first couple of seasons. That laser left foot of his is a real weapon. Can go over defences and hit up a target. But as others have said he is slow and if he can't find space his value is negligible. Daniel turns 28 next year so would be close to his twilight years for any team to pick him up. He should see out his career as a one club player
  16. James Strauss typifies Melbourne of that era Selcted at 19 in the draft which was way above where he should have gone Shoulder reconstruction First AFL game and he is given the kicking out duties against a rampaging Hawthorn outfit. First game! The Hawks were rightly all over him and I'm guessing his confidence was shot. Nothing is ever made of this but it is a far, far worse debut than the Watts debacle. Breaks leg horrendously after colliding with (Carltons) Jeff Garlett. So so a combination of incredible bad luck and amateur hour stuff from our club. None of which was Strauss's fault
  17. Swans look all up and about now but reckon the roles will be reversed next time when we are fresh and with a full team in September.
  18. Or this link may be more user friendly. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/strength-and-conditioning-coach-rob-jackson-has-helped-transform-the-demons/news-story/f5baa806b3494026410636dd56033611?from=htc_rss
  19. By any measure Selwood is great player. 3 X Premiership player, 4 X most courageous, 5 X All Australian etc so I really don't understand why he hasn't eliminated the ducking thing from his game. It is completely unnecessary for him. In the end he will be remembered as a great but still have those question marks over his name with most footy supporters. Viney will have no such issues. Perhaps Joel could look to the way Jack plays for the last couple of years and emulate him.
  20. They'll go Oliver I reckon. Our fortunes rise and fall more on his back than on Hunts. Also they have a bit of ammo from the events of the last few days. Having said that we know that neither of these kids will take a backward step and the Swans may find they have bitten off more than they can chew.
  21. As others have said a raking left foot kick, is tough and has served a good apprenticeship in the VFL. Has been in the bests 5 times this season which is more than anyone else at Casey so has obviously been consistent and carrying out coaches instructions. Also has a winning AFL record (2W/1L) Hopefully White will prove to be a good choice and will acquit himself well
  22. Bump I re-watched the last qtr of the QB game last night. Two weeks later and I can still feel the euphoria of the Watts goal. It, along with the crowd roar, was one of the single best moments I've had supporting this team and I'm 53 years old. We were as one.
  23. If you haven't read enough about our glorious victory in the West here is a snippet from the Demonblog and his excellent Every Day Is Sunday blog For the full extensive write up ...... http://mfcdemonblog.blogspot.com.au "After multiple six day breaks, on that ground, against that team, to build a fort inside the eight, without Hogan, Watts, Jones, Salem on the bench with frozen peas strapped to his hammy, Garlett struggling to move, Viney playing through injury, Gawn in his first game in three months, with a full-back who didn't kick a goal in his first 64 games leading the attack, and a three goal deficit deep into the last quarter. There weren't many more obscure angles available other than aliens landing in the middle of the ground and ushering Basil Zempilas back onto the spaceship".
  24. Ok my theory that we are living in some weird alternate universe is gaining traction. Consider the evidence We, Melbourne, are seriously considered a flag threat and are the hardest team to play against bar none Watts kicking match winning goals, on the run, against the Pies, at the G and on Queens Birthday to effectively finish Collingwood's season. Tom McDonald was the form forward of the entire competition this weekend. But the biggest clue that perhaps the earth has flipped on its axis is that Clayton Oliver is apparently considered soft. The gutsiest, contested ball-winning freak, the toughest teenager in Australia, the 19 year old who the West Coast coach chose to tag from the opening bounce over Jack Viney has had his courage called into question. Bizarre! The good news is that the weirder this season gets the more chance that jumper number 13 will be holding up cup number 13 in a few short months and that will be a whole new conversation.
