  1. Great call. Each player on that line was the best or 2nd best in the league in their position at that time. Unfortunately the rest of the team were not so talented
  2. And if Neeld had of done the after match presser smiling, happy and joking with reporters some other media hack would have criticized him for being too relaxed. You can't win I am still trying to get over Matthews rating Ben Hudson over Clarke comment. This guy is an absolute legend of the game and even he comes out with utter tosh. The 4th estate need to have a good, long, hard look at themselves
  3. Out of the three, I'm going with Grimes as a mid
  4. Franklin of the current players. Too fast, too tall, too strong and too freaky for any one player. Ablett Snr and Carey of the older set. Also saw the tail end of Hudson. Was unstoppable
  5. Too right nutbean. I can't wait for Neeld to prove King wrong.
  6. I saw us in the 70's too baysidedave and it was bloody awful, but I refuse to believe that things are as bad as they seem. So many players are playing below their best or to a fraction of their potential. The upside is enormous. The football dept is run by quality people. Neeld, Craig and Misson were all considered winners when they arrived at the club. They still are quality people who are yet to put it together. The club needs to jag a win or two and get some confidence back. I have to stay positive as the alternative is too scary.
  7. A career too short - Rhino Richards If Neeld wants grunt (and pace) he would have loved Russell. Did a huge don't argue one day on, was it, Dipper? Ricky Jackson. Would be handy at Clarke's feet And Brett Lovett because he had stumpy legs, little pace and a mullet and still no one could get near him. Deep in the back pocket, surrounded by 3 defenders and with his feet firmly planted to one square metro of turf he could evade all. He was excitingly reliable.
  8. Agree he looks a better version of Warnock and a rich mans Brad Miller perhaps. Look forward to them playing on each other when Vs Tigers.
  9. Yeah I got crapped off by that too. The Foxtel guys only really wanted to talk about the Pies. They were almost waiting for us to fold, but then on past performance who can blame them As Mark Neeld said we are now looking to be a serious football side On a different note what would have been the odds before tonight that Magner was more of a lock for Rnd 1 than Watts
  10. Magner 14 contested possies He may be what Neeld was thinking of when talking about "grunt" Is it too early to be talking finals?
  11. That is a ripper Muzza - great work
  12. He copped bit of a serve "On the Couch" tonight. They suggested 3 touches on the weekend wasn't good enough even allowing for the conditions. Consensus was that a backline role for him where he has to mind a forward and use his 'brain power and skills' would be best. He did not play well but still believe that his best position will be as a forward. Also think that he will prove to be a big game player and that he and Jurrah will form a great combination. But then maybe I just want this to be the case.
  13. I'll put my hand up. If he had of pulled off that 5 baulk manouvre and kicked a goal we would be talking about how hard he is to match up on, how he has X factor, can play tall and has amazing agility for a bloke who is 6"6'. As it turned out he got close but no cigar - this time. Personally I want him forward with Clark, Watts and Jurrah. Could be fun
  14. I got 5 wins by half way as well As per the start of most seasons I am fairly bullish about how we will go and this year promises much. But then you look at playing Pies, Blues, Cats and Hawks over 5 weeks it could get quite ugly. A lot will depend on the confidence of the playing group. Go Dees!
  15. Sorry the above comparison was supposed to appear in table format. I am not smart enough to fix. Suffice to say that Scully had 3 more disposals per game last year and more tackles Gaff had more marks and inside 50s
  16. Stats, courtesy of Footywire, indicate a straight Scully for Gaff swap to be quite fair and reasonable Player Statistics Comparison Andrew Gaff Name Tom Scully West Coast Eagles Team GWS Giants Midfield Position Midfield 17 Career Games 31 Oakleigh Chargers Origin Dandenong Stingrays June 16, 1992 Date of Birth May 15, 1991 19yr 8mth Age 20yr 9mth 182cm Height 181cm 78kg Weight 78kg 2010 National Draft Last Drafted In 2009 National Draft Round 1, Pick #4 Last Draft Position Priority Pick #1 West Coast Eagles Last Drafted By Melbourne Demons 2011 Stats for Season 2011 17 Games 10 10.1 Kicks Per Game 7.6 7.6 Handballs Per Game 13.2 17.8 Disposals Per Game 20.8 4.4 Marks Per Game 2.1 0.4 Goals Per Game 0.1 0.4 Behinds Per Game 0.5 1.1 Tackles Per Game 5.4 0 Hitouts Per Game 0 2.3 Inside 50s Per Game 1.6 0.6 Goal Assists Per Game 0.4 1.0 Goals Contributed Per Game 0.5 0.2 Frees For Per Game 0.9 0.4 Frees Against Per Game 0.8 $322,900 Dream Team Price $379,400 65.4 Dream Team Score Per Game 76.7 $331,100 Supercoach Price $423,400
  17. I dislike pretty much everything about GWS but I actually think it isn't the worst club song But as others in the media have mentioned it could be a while till we hear it sung by the players
  18. Well written Ben. I wonder if they will have the two captains on opposing sides?
  19. Martin doesn't need to be much better to be an A grader. By some peoples definitions he may already be there. Scully has played a handful of good games and one great quarter. He will be the main 'go to' mid for GWS and he will be targetted by every other team, knocked pillar to post every game. He has a dodgy knee and is not a great kick. I would have Martin in a heartbeat Disclaimer; I am not a big fan of Toms' and may be concentrating on his negatives without acknowledging his good bits
  20. I have been to one training session at Casey, the windy monday morning one about 3 weeks ago. The forwards were practicing whilst under defensive pressure and Flash was being coralled closer and closer to the boundary. 30m around from goal he baulked his opponent and slotted the goal. Through the air it was never in doubt. On a degree of difficulty it was as close to impossible but he made it look simple. I was leaning over the fence no more than 3 metres away at the time. I have no idea how Davey will go this year but I love hearing training stories like this Same for this one below from a training report on"Ology by George-on-the-outer "Really, really interesting was at the first break. The whole group brought together to gather breathe and drinks. Jack Watts singled out. I think it was Brian Royals booming voice that could be heard all around the ground as he threw Jack the ball….” Its Queens Birthday weekend, you have the ball and kicking for goal to stop Collinwood going back to back, it’s all up to you Jack….” With other coaches shouting at him as he came in to kick, and the rest of the players standing around with expectation, he slotted it from the 50m." I also very much enjoyed hearing Morton doing well recently and stories of McDonalds fitness for a someone 194cm tall is exciting. There is lots of time to find out if he can kick and mark It is the time to believe and dream and I'm all for it.
  21. For something completely different, wouldn't mind seeing Fitzpatrick on Clark for a bit. Yes I know Clark way too strong, but Fitz is supposed to have great acceleration for someone so tall and could match Clark at forward throw-ins. Might help fast track Jacks' learning curve too. As for the young KPP also would like to see Cook V McDonald Blease v Bennell could be interesting just to see which one is quicker. Probably the one with the ball 17 posts in and not one mention of Yabby Jeans(?) famous analogy of intraclub matches being similar to dancing with your sister.
  22. Our most likely back six talls include Frawley 193cm Garland 191cm Rivers 192cm Garland is too short to play on Watts 196cm and rivers too slow. Frawley would have to take him. So who do you put on Clark 200cm? Then if Martyn 198cm spends time in the forward line our backs are really exposed for height. Against the taller forward lines - Hawks, North, West Coast and Carlton to a certain degree we are short. Makes me think that the coaching staff will be very keen for Sellar 196cm to come on.
  23. .I believe Mr Burgundy was refering to the money saved by not overpaying Scully would have allowed us to pitch for Clark By memory we are paying close to 100% of our cap this year so it would be unlikely that we could afford both.
  24. I don't care who they are but if we want to be challenging for a flag we need at least one elite midfielder and 2 - 3 A graders (by whatever definition). Trengove, Gysberts ? ? Aside from that I would love Watts to be as dominant as Koutafides (sp?) was when he was totally unstoppable for that season before injuries stopped him. But I want Watts to be like that for about 200 games. Too much to ask? If he could also lay Mitch Robinson out cold in a one-on-one marking contest and a long sprint away from that bloke from GWS on the Members wing of the G that would be nice too.
  25. I don't understand the opening post at all. I would argue almost the complete opposite, believing we are in the best position list wise and financially than for decades. Lets wait for the season proper starts before contemplating trips to the chook shed with the vodka bottle & shotgun
