It will be bad for membership if we finish last again. Die-hard Demons like us appreciate the improvements that have come this year, but for most of the punters who have yet to sign up and don't follow the footy media religiously, they're far more likely to view 2014 as just another sh*t season indistinguishable from the previous 7, than as a stepping stone to recovery. If we pick up the spoon this year, we can kiss goodbye to 40k membership.

Two pages in and no-one's mentioned the obvious suspect, a man who not only had access to the flag but an obsession with the glory days of years gone by. Sorry Schwabby, but I'm going to blame this one on you too ...

After a lot of thought, reflection, consultation with others, and numerous video reviews, I've come to the conclusion that Bernie Vince has had the better year - by about 0.4 goals

Gotta say JVFP, when I saw the !!! in the title I assumed it was a 'picket fence' thread.. Unfortunately, you are right, and its reflected in the whole 3-year-limit succession plan thing. I wish his real mission was to win a flag.

So in summary, not 'hugely difficult', 'not easy'.. Sounds to me like a regulation AFL kick. The real worry with Grimes' disposal was not the shocker at the end of the game - it's the ones he screws up when he's got a mark or free kick and is under no pressure whatsoever. Happened in the first quarter today, back pocket, kicked it across goal to the other pocket but it fell short, the resultant kick was under pressure and we lost possession. Same thing at the start of the Freo game in Darwin, the first clanger of the day, Grimes takes a mark at half back, handpasses to a stationary Howe who was then tackled. I bet you his confidence is at rock bottom because there are a handful of occasions each week where he must be saying to himself: "Oh sh*t, what have I just done?" Edit: With Grimes, it's a combination of execution and decision-making.

I think you're being somewhat generous. What aspect of it made it a "high degree of difficulty?"

So why can't we beat North like the other crap teams ?!

The opening and closing ceremonies I can understand, pretty spectacular. But the athletes parade? Can't imagine watching that too many times over... "And here come Angola, don't they look smashing..."
-
Oh come on Robbie, next thing you'll be telling me that Todd Viney didn't beat Boris Becker as a junior

There's only one soccer player who's ever made it in footy, and that was former Manchester United superstar Brad Green.

The most interesting thing about Roos / Watts is that he has quietly gone back to the forward line despite assurances from Roos earlier in the season that he would mainly play as a mid. Sure, he pushes up a bit as a high half forward, but he's not playing as a 'mid' in the way Roos initially indicated, or played him in the first couple of games. Funny that no journo has asked Roos about this (or at least not to my knowledge).

So instead of wearing our dark navy home guernsey which clashes with some teams, we'll wear this dark navy away guernsey which clashes with the same teams? Sounds like a sensible new development in the clash strip debate.

Missing it already, including the Brazillian Film Festival they were running on SBS 2 each night. Anyone else in love with Fernanda De Paula?

You are one strange cat DL. Why do you want it?

Anyone else think the crowd looked more like 25-30k? I reckon the AFL lie about attendances. At the very least, they are doing their best to hide them. Channel 7 used to always show the crowd in the last few minutes of the game, no matter how big or small; now they only do it when the crowd meets or exceeds expectations. Didn't show it for yesterday's Pies-Dons clash, which looked small for such a fixture. I bet they've been gagged by the AFL.

What, am I the only one waiting up for this thing? The hurling final between Cork and Limerick is on in the meantime...

Ideally we'd play both games in Alice, where humidity isn't the same problem it is in Darwin. But I'm of the 'anyone, anywhere, anytime' ethos.

That's funny, I could have sworn you started another thread tonight saying PJ should clean out the list. Thanks for this latest contribution.
