its typical of the AFL's match review pannel - if an injury occurs they seek to blame a person rather than admit that the game has the ability to hurt players this would be worse than the trengove sling tackle. It would be punishing Thomas for going hard and beating his oponant to the the ball.

I saw the term "desire indicator" thrown around by rohan bail in a post match interview on the MFC website. Seems as though the team are being asked to focus heavily on those 1%ers and acts that appear to reflect desire for the contest. From our post match interviews (Bail, Bate & Neeld to a degree) it seems like internally we're pretty happy with the level of effort / desire we're putting in latley. On the other hand you have Roos and others saying that our players "dont want it as much as other sides" or "it doesnt mean as much to them" etc. I think the guys are all trying pretty damn hard. They've been drilled all preseason about contested posesion and clearances and havent been too bad in this department. Where i do think we need a big lift is in desire to get to the next contest. Seems to me that so much education and schooling has gone into the stoppage itself that the next piece of the puzzle has been neglected? Perhaps the run and spread and reading of the play is a aspect which is harder to teach (more reliant on "footy smarts?"). Perhaps the players are hesitant to take the game on and back their gut instincts when they do get the ball due to a desire to follow the coaches orders to a tee? Its worrying IMO if the players and coaches are pretty happy with the level of effort & desire that the players are putting in, yet we cant get our hands on the ball.

Three cheers for the heartless playing group over the last ~8 years

I prefer being a Larger-lout!

Our midfield misses Scully on paper, in reality we were Vanilla with him too I didnt tip us but i hope we win!

pull your head in Simma02. I'm a Gysberst fan, but i also liked Mclean. Just because i'm sticking up for Brock's leadership credentials doesnt mean i'm not happy with the trade or 'have absolutely no idea'

On field determination, off field good bloke, openly supported the club at debt demolition - all the leadership traits that any AFL leader shows really

The next generation of younger Dees supporters
DemonWA replied to Maldonboy38's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry i dont believe this. Richmond are my example. Their younger generation have had no success either (probably worse up until this year) but still have good membership numbers. Another 2-3 years of pain wouldnt be the end of the MFC. Some people need to chill out, log off from demonland for a few weeks and realise that the club inst in turmoil, its the posters on this site! -
The next generation of younger Dees supporters

As someone that has lived in WA since roughly 10 years of age i know what its like to be the only demons supporter in town, but tell your kids to persist with the MFC. They'll learn to cop loosing on the chin, that you dont always get what you want, and other good lessons for life! -
Although the notion of bringing him back is pretty silly, i dont think we should have let him go. He was a leader and could have helped the club over the last few "junior-less" seasons

Picks: 2,3, 9, plus two picks in the mid 20s

I was coming from the stance that no club would have risked taking luke ball becasue he would have said "thanks, but no thanks" and somehow ended up at the pies -

In my opinion: a club taking a punt on Jack Viney is riskier than a club picking luke ball after he had nominated the pies as his preffered destination -

I'm sure JV wouldnt mind shagging chicks on school camp, getting boozed on northbridge for the good of the club?!! -

based on all the noises Neeld is making i think he is comfortable with bottoming out and taking some quality kids with some handy draft picks. He's starting to sound like Bailey - "we were in the game, we were being competative for periods etc" I cant blame the bloke for accepting it though, Woosha did the same to get Gaff. Neeld has a 3 year contract, im sure he's more worried about how we'll be going 2 and a half years down the track rather than 1/2 way through the first. -
Green isnt superman, if we kicked it to his advantage i reckon he'd mark it and use the ball well more often than not. Problem for all of our forwards is the delivery. Clark kicekd 5 from 1/2 chances, cant expect him to do taht every week
-
Darling is up there with the best players in that draft, forget about just comparing him to Lucas Cook. I'll admit he gets a helping hand by being surrounded by Kennedy and Lynch + resting rucks, but on the flip side the WCE coaching staff have really rated him to bring in a 3rd tall forward into their starting line up? He's strong, quick, tackles like a beast, takes good marks and kicks at goals very well. If we had picked him up he would have been our Full forward and we wouldnt have traded for Mitch Clarke IMO

Petty Sylvia isnt playing this week, he loves playing the tigers

I think Neeld realises that whilst Davey isnt the player he was in 08 he adds value and i think he'll play on the weekend Watching the chat with Robbo on DeeTV its clear that Neeld has come a fair way in a short time. He's joking around with robbo and being far more understanding of the team's performance than he would have been a month ago. I think he's working out pretty quickly that he needs the lads to be on side with him if he's going to get through to them and has toned down his approach somewhat. That being said he still is clear that we're not near where we want to be, but he's being far more realistic about what is required to get us there (ie. its not as simple as a tough preseason and being demanding).

yeah Tommy McDonald missed his first 3-4 targets by foot

agree on this point. The Egales are playign so well that they have the confidence to do the running in anticipation that they'll win the stoppage. And becasue most of the time they did, they had players lined up for posessions all the way down the field unmarked by our players who were too busy worrying about the stuctures they've been tought for the stoppage.
-
yeah but we're not going to get improvement on these fundamental aspects in a week. The season is long, im not going to stop supporting the boys. Whats the point in harping on the negatives? We're a long way of a flag. The media and the fans (us) got caught up in the hype of early draft picks, and after a few good wins early on penciled us in for the 2013 or 14 premiership (aka Geelongs path after the 2001 draft). Doesnt look like it will pan out that way. Im happy to find posatives in the bleakest of losses to get me through the season rather than depressing myself and the other postes on here with more of the same negative, dooms day stuff.

for what its worth i didnt notice the Grimes hit live I did see Embley get crunched though
-
yeah i guess it does. I would say that he doesnt do allot wrong aside from getting the ball though. He's never going to be a in and under clearance specialist who gets their own ball. Maybe he runs to the wrong positions? or maybe the guys dont pass to him? who knows, i havent watched him closley enough.
