Roos had indicated that he's not going all youngsters in one of the draft camps clips though Red. Reckon there's a lot more to play out here and for some reason Dangerfield just keeps cropping up.

Worried and disgruntled about Roos' limited tenure
Dockett 32 replied to Curry & Beer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very impressed with Roos. Took his time evaluating players, works well with the administrators of the club, always measured and not afraid to point out the competition's anomalies as they impact the club he represents. Plenty of good stuff to come. -
Frawley just another journeyman, same boat as Clark. Move on.

What does "longstanding" mean?

Sorry but simply cant buy $450k. Surely more. He's been shopping himself all year. Either someone would be telling fibs, which would definitely needed to be looked at, or he's been offered something after his playing days. ( Flimsy assistant coaching role for a few years to average the real earnings up, or the like. Third party deals are outlawed these days so they tell us). Just a personal opinion but reckon the life after footy card is linked to some these arrangements which should be added back to salary cap IMO)

RIP Robbie Flower - Sad Passing of a True Champion
Dockett 32 replied to KLV's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great player , very sad day for the family. -
He only wants blokes who know the real meaning of commitment. Hope we end up with players like Jack at the Swans, ready to die for the cause. Viney , Salem, Cross, Tyson etc. He'll get them. Things looking up.

I don't think the issue can essentially be described as one brought about by the differences in club management. Nor do I think its about giving players "at the margin" a greater opportunity either, yet it was one of the major initial selling points. I'm not sure if it was a deliberate creation by player managers, AFL and the AFLPA/players for the current lop sided operation to evolve either. What I do now know is, the smarties at the top clubs quickly determined how their 'competitive advantage' or 'advantaged position' on the ladder makes the system a beautiful vehicle for them to operate with and gain maximum benefit from. Often at the expense of those without the benefit of a quality ladder position. So how is this in anyway equal? Blind Freddy can see what's already gone on, having good players on two year contracts cycle is a recipe for having them picked off and that it has redefined the importance of the national draft to many clubs. Its simply a crock now and the proposed 6 year option without far greater compensation suggests to me that the position is likely to get worse. So who cares? Successful wealthy clubs don't, interstate clubs with the go home benefit(WA/SA) may not worry all that much, the other interstate franchises get questionable concessions and are fed by the AFL so they don't (yet, but look out, lets see how the GWS adventure pans out)leaving the cellar dwellers. Been banging on about all this for quite a while and the need for a full player movement review. Criteria to participate and offsetting compensation seem to be the best ways to fix as I doubt if they want to open up a restraint of trade debate.

Doesn't make sense to me.
-
Wouldn't entirely surprise if he was traded for the right price.
-
They can guarantee that can they. If he's heft $1m + on the table from another top 4 club with good rospects, he's nuts. Would need a new manager for starters.

Boy that Hawthorn deal was put together quickly! Clarkson said they hadn't spoken to him on Monday. He also never went near a pack or physical contest all year. I'm cross with myself for thinking something fishy has gone on here as I know Hawthorn wouldn't plan to poach a player.

On the back of our 'isolated' penalty for tanking, Gils first crack at anything major, I just don't think the AFL would be silly enough to stick their chin out again and deny pick three in this instance. People can clearly see the ongoing concessions 'bend over' for the new and existing interstate franchises. Hawks got band one for Buddy and end so should we. Anything less is unjust manipulation and be strike two for Gil. Far better result is for AFL to do the right thing , be seen to being fair and square the ledger with us somewhat.

Would be an grossly inappropriate message to Melbourne from the AFL if it were to be 19. The players credentials , likely contract , age and stage of career, confirms MFC deserve the highest available compensation. AFL need to step up to the plate on this one, or another agenda towards MFC appears, notwithstanding PJ & PR.
-
Agree Nut and exactly what message would they be sending to the competition should pick three not be awarded for an 26 YO AA on long contract and big dough. Would have to raise eyebrows as to its level of interest and concern for bottom of the table clubs and if not that what it might have in store for the Demons

Having sex with someone you love. Very commendable.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Interesting analogy -
Let's hope a whole new world of panic, dropping off and self interest travels down the highway. It worked in the city.

Attempted personal wealth preservation. -
Agreed Red. Where's the photo of the queen giving thee bird? Love it.

I don't seem to recall the Adelaide players being so staunch when Tippett left, nor did I notice Hawthorn players being overly friendly to Buddy on Saturday ( Luke Hodge excluded).

Geelong have really given us some winners over the recent past! No point in filling up with them , only to clear them out in two years. Worst case has to be 2nd rounder for Lumumba.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST
Dockett 32 replied to Gipsy Danger's topic in Melbourne Demons
Frost's highlight reel showed him going quite nicely in the forward half. Admittedly at junior level. Looked ok and with a bit of toe. -
A good player in their mid twenties or younger who is in their best 22.

B Graders. They can do better than that. How about Duncan?
