I don't recall having seen anything much if at all about Lawrence in the various training reports. Reputed to be a potential slick crumbing forward, a much needed commodity at MFC, yet so little being said which is a worry. Have any of those who have been fortunate enough to get to training sessions anything to observe? If he is any sort of serious contender for the role, he should really be starting to make big statements (on the track) by now.

When I read the thread title I thought that maybe his dad had been offered a $200,000 a year job folding cardboard boxes.

I can't remember any post Brett Lovett. Other than that, it has been a pretty lean number after the promising start with two greats, Bert Chadwick and Allan La Fontaine in the 1920s. It was I think retired for a few years post Brett - gutsy and great vision.

I guess we should be given some leeway, but just a few weeks, max start of season, on the new boys Clark and Sellar. But Maloney in particular drives me nuts.
-
Yeah - I guess the yo- yo years enabled him to keep his job, but as always the benefit of hindsight says that he should have been moved on at the end of 2001. Any geniuses here remember who was in the coaching market at that time - we can have a whole new hindsight cry if there were any guns who we missed out on.

Great work dee-luded. Couldn't stop laughing - but they need some falafel as well out there, double deep fried of course. And the end of day special should be the pot of Phat under the drain hole - unless he sneaks it off for himself, greedy bugger.

Training - Monday 5th December, 2011

Martin is a nice problem to have though. With Clark up forward, and Sellar probably down back, either position which Martin could hold down, and the development of Gawnius Maximus, Martin could well fit in as the second strong athletic big bodied forward, with the versatility to fill in ruck or as a tall defender. I hear that Tom McDonald is also being developed up forward, so the final line up will certainly be interesting. -
Sorry to sound pedantic, but you are totally wrong. They have never had a moral compass so they could not lose one. This has all been the fantasy of an overpaid egotistic megalomaniac who will stop at nothing to get this up and running. For all I know they may be naming the GW$ stadium, wherever it is, Rooty Hill, Blacktown, Paramatta (who cares) after him.

I well remember Daniher saying some time after that, that MFC sides would " er, umm, develop a er, umm, ruthlessness, er, umm, attitude" but it was all talk, no action. I hate the Bummmers with a passion, even regardless of the Long and Wallis incidents, but the playing group was said to have got together aster losing th unlovable PF against the Cheaters and made their own pact .....'take no prisoners'. I haven't really seen a MFC team with that sort of attitude since the 1950s and early 60s; the Northey teams dame close, but lacked the skills and firepower to quite pull it off. Hopefully Neeld will instil a more positive attitude into the team, but ultimately it is up to each and every player, guided by the on field leaders (regardless if any named position eg captain etc).

And I am a bit more dmanding than you, Nark Meeld - Iwant to see them impress on the field in an AFL senior game, preferably a GF, as well as on the track and interviewing well!!

I wonder if Scuttlebutt really has the drive .....says "it would be fantastic to be in an AFL list even for a year", or maybe just being modest. Let's hope he turns out the goods and is just bring modest.

I didn't think that Labradors and Bulldogs were very compatible: but they did pick up an old boxer a couple of years back, and though he was near the end of his leash he did ok for them.

Leigh Williams (Norwood, EFL) on Permission to Train List
monoccular replied to Dee-licious's topic in Melbourne Demons
Stuff Fevola and Casey: surely this young man is being at least looked at as a potential MFC player, though there s a huge jump from EFL to AFL. He seems to have the right body stats for a key role, though that of course says absolutely nothing about his fitness, his Footy ability, attitude and smarts Maybe they are hoping for a JPod type of surprise packet, which would be very nice however unlikely. Good luck. -
...maybe because his heart was never in it, maybe because he had a dicky knee, maybe because he was overrated. On the other hand, maybe he did influence many games, particularly this year due to his toxic influence which spread through the club. Whatever, the club has been cleansed of him, and his father.....so we can move on without his poison seeping through the ranks.

One would have to presume that he has sat down and had "the chat" with the coaching staff (presuming that they could actually contact him; and if they couldn't, end of conversation) and the necessary 100 pc commitment wasn't found, or he wouldn't have been delisted in the first place. Obvious enormous talent, but commitment underwhelming.
-
Depending of course on who else may be available, IF and only IF the inevitable face to face with he coaching panel convinces them that he has changed his ways and really wants to commit, surely a rookie selection is low risk with at least potential for high gain. If not, well I am sure that he won't be missed.
-
Who? Did he play for Melbourne?
-
Has Lawrence been training with the forward group? I think I heard that he had some 'attitude issues' last season: hopefully our new 'no prisoners' coaching panel will help him get his mindset right. He is reputed to otherwise be the real deal.

As I recall, and please correct me if needed, Eishold's inexplicable miss of the match sealer for a behind resulted in the kick-in that went in one or two uncontested possessions to Buckenara who marked out of range. The siren went, Jimma infringed, 15 metre penalty, goal......season over. Also from distant memory, there was some discussion as to whether the 15m penalty was correct: at the time I don't think crossing the mark automatically resulted in a 15, but time wasting did. Now as the siren had sounded, how could this have wasted time? Still, had Esihold not missed, this would be a distant incidental nothing.

Well I guess that they think Pies fans cannot subtract 30 from 45, or maybe even read the names on the scoreboard ? But yes, bloody annoying, and pointless.

To the contrary - I understood that the AFL, and most clubs, actively encourage if not require players to work on something other than footy....but then GW$ aren't tied by any existing AFL rules or conventions. -
One of the joys of going to the footy used to be chatting to friends, and to strangers who sometimes became friends, before the game and at the quarter breaks. Now at the G this is nigh impossible due to the blaring announcements and 'music', all played far too loudly to understand. I have written to the MCC several times about it, but of course have never had the courtesy of a reply. I guess that is "progress".

Well hopefully the Commmissioner of Taxation will look at GW$ FBT records pretty closely.....this is surely a fringe benefit, though I must say at Breakfast Creek a benefit that most would be happy without.
