Bingo. I'd rather that than Col's haircuts and Riva dinners.

I'm not easily impressed by footballers, but there's just something about this bloke. He's a heart and soul type - do anything for his team mates, particularly the dirty work that the layman doesn't notice or understand. Now that will only get an individual so far and a club can only have a small amount of that type. But I think he's a beauty. He's like a pure bred dog thats been unloved and untrained. Give him a new owner who puts the time in and watch him flourish. I'll be gutted for the kid if he gets the flick, and filthy on the club. Surely there's enough lazy, unaccountable deadwood in front of him. Surely.

"What if" is a Melbourne supporters favourite 2 words. What if Gerald Healy hadn't gone to Sydney a year before we made nearly made a GF? What if Sumich hadn't hit the post in the 1990 QF and a rampant Melbourne weren't forced to take a week off? What if the AFL didn't change the prelim final location rules in 1994? What if Schwarz, Jakovich, Viney and Prympke had played in 1995? What if we hadn't rorted the salary cap and got high end picks in 99, 00 and 01? What if we'd sucked in 2004 instead of 2003 and got Buddy and ? instead of McLean and Sylvia? What if we were already in AAMI Park when Judd came sniffing? What if we'd lost to Carlton in round 22 2007 and got Cotchin instead of Morton AND Watts AND Naitanui a year later? What if....Its enough to have you staring at the ceiling at night.

Forget Goddard ... Get Lenny Hayes
Chook in Perth replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't want sound like a wet blanket, but why even bother starting these sort of threads? -
For memory the gap between a 1 handicapper and a touring pro is basically the same as the gap between a 1 handicapper and an 8 handicapper. Even at the amateur level a 1 handicapper would come up against blokes playing off +2 at the elite pennant level. anyway carry on. No to BJ from me. We've got enough blokes with bad body language and I reckon he's played his best footy.

Um I think you forgot one champ. Look left.

Until this trial is over there will continue to be innuendo and confusion. He's out of contract so the smart thing right now is to put him on the Rookie list on a one year deal. If he's cleared, he can focus on footy and get back his spot. If he ends up in the clink... actually I don't want to contemplate that.

Got to be Carlton. 1. Any kid born between 1975 and 1980 either barracks for Essendon or hates them more than cancer. 2. Carlton won't make the 8. A win for them will torpedo Essendon's chances. That said, I enjoyed the Bummers getting their arses handed to them in the first week of the 2009 and 2011 finals.

we could really do with a fat has-been who gets on the [censored] before games.

Akin to the worst employee at the Ford factory quitting a week before they lay off 500 people.

Dees holding Presser at 11:40am... what now?
Chook in Perth replied to hardtack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hate Dean Bailey and Chris Connolly for leaving a legacy of supporters questioning whether our players retire of their own accord or not. -
You can only delist so many players. Dunn won't be one of them and nor should he be. In a crap team he's a goose. In a good team, he's a quality 16-22 role player who does a job and stirs the pot.He offers a bit of the C word in a team completely bereft of it. J MacDonald hasn't been offered a contract yet, but he's getting picked every week and he's reasonably confident of getting a 1 year deal. He's not much chop, but he's a big body and is adequate depth. With 40 fit players he's at Cranbourne, but you can't just have kids. That line of thinking has got us nowhere.

How To Make Melbourne 'Relevant' Again ...
Chook in Perth replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, na. -
Ian Robson? You mean the guy who replaced Peter Jackson who resigned of his own accord after 15 years? Swann went to Carlton because they were a basketcase and looking for a CEO. Two completely different circumstances to us. I'll say it again. If CS isn't performing, replace him. Otherwise let him get on with the job.
-
Posters suggesting the board go to market to see who's out there before CS is reappointed clearly have no idea. Doing that is essentially asking him to reapply for his job. Both humiliating and pointless. It's really quite simple, the board thinks he's earnt another contract or they don't. He's either performed well against his KPI's, or he hasn't. Personally I think Cameron has many admirable qualities, but a few flaws. Whilst I firmly believe he gets the narrative of our history better than anyone, I also think he spends too much time paying tribute to it. He's good at working a room when it suits him, and [censored] poor at other times. No point rehashing the footy department stuff, it's been done to death. If he hasn't learnt to stop meddling he'll make himself unemployable. He and Connolly turned Freo around, and for that he deserves a lot of credit, But anyone with footy and business acumen could have done that. There was a lot of heavy hitters wanting to get on board. I think he's a good (not great) CEO and we're probably lucky to have him.

Is Howe the best contested mark you've seen?

Terry Wallace on our trading/drafting

How is being a triple premiership player not "directly associated"? -
Wants to stay but didn't like the first offer. shouldn't be too many problems.
-
I don't think enough of our kicking skills to think we have any players that can deliberately sit the ball on top of the oppositions head for Howe to take hangers.

Nice to read something positive, but... How many annus horribilis' can you have in a 6 year period??

Stages of Grief - where are you?
Chook in Perth replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just to add, right now I've got that Olympics "perspective" feeling that I get every 4 years. That feeling that I'm watching the best of the best on the world stage. These magnificent athletes who have worked their whole lives, often for little fiscal reward, for that moment where their performance will define them as people. Puts into perspective how unimportant the dickwads running around for the MFC really are. They can have their inflated salaries, German 4x4's and Chapel St slappers. Give me a kid like Seebohm who was genuinely heartbroken that second best in the world wasn't good enough for her. Thats real heart and pride in performance. -
Stages of Grief - where are you?

I watched my first game in 2 years in Melbourne on Saturday. I watched it with little to no emotion, other than those deliberate out of bounds decisions. In fact, at times I just laugh at the ineptness. Memberships will be back to 30,000 next year. -

On the Couch - Brock talks about 'tanking'

So Adrian Anderson wants to interview Brock. He'd want to be careful. If this ends up with Melbourne getting sanctioned, there's a dirty secret about Brock that plenty would be happy to share with the mainstream media.
