  1. An amazing game.. He kicked 2 goals for the Red Team and was in the best for the Blue... Sounds like a few Melbourne players!!!
  2. Mark Stevens ‏@Stevo7AFL17 May Imagine Col Sylvia tearing it apart on a HFF for Pies? A gun .. But also for all his perceived weaknesses a loyalist grateful to Dees Well I can't blame him if he does leave hearing all the abuse from some supporters. We can't win a game and haven't for 5 years and the bloke he's still supposedly loyal to us. Yet in return, we as a supporter base want him out because he hasn't performed regularly enough against good teams. HELLO, WE'VE BEATEN 1 GOOD TEAM IN 3 YEARS! NO-ONE'S PERFORMED!!! All these posters harp on about how our culture problem is kicking out players before they're due.. Junior, Greeny etc. These guys were so cooked in their career they couldn't play anymore.. and we have a late 20's player who has so much talent and is finally beginning to sort himself out and play good footy.. He wants to stay at Melbourne and we want him out.. Guck me.
  3. I'm not quite sure whether I'm more shocked that you posted this or whether people liked it.. You realise we live in 2013 not in the 1920's it's important to include women in the AFL these days. What does sitting on the bottom of the ladder have to do with doing good initiatives. If you're not winning on the field you should be doing MORE initiatives. Good on the club for bringing women into the club, if I was a 22 year old girl and would never get the chance to play AFL or at the top level purely because of my gender I'd be devastated. Melbourne and the Dogs have given these women one opportunity to play in true jumpers, with I imagine real umpires and a crowd that they've wanted their whole career. Your last sentence is embarrassing and christ sake Oli you've written some crap over the years but this is a new low. Quite frankly give all of them a contract because my guess is they will try a **** load harder than the male equivalents at the moment.
  4. Hes had a Michael Barlow first year in AFL. If he had been in a winning team the same respect would be given his way. One of few good moves this off season I'd say.
  5. In this comment, it's one from the 3rd level of the MCC where you are lucky enough to see more than the TV shows you. The problem with yesterday isn't the fact that for all 4 quarters the only person who consistently kicked the ball I50 'in front' or to advantage of our player leading was Chris Dawes. The problem with that is that he only had 2 I50. We as a team who train 5 times a week and are paid to play AFL... Could not kick the ball to advantage all day. It was horrendous. The problem with yesterday is that every single time GC got the ball in their defensive 50, there was a man available to switch. Everytime. Not once in 4 quarters did Mark do something to fix it. None of the players worked hard enough because each and every occasion Gold Coast chipped their way up the wing finding loose men who had out run their Melbourne opponent. But the biggest problem was post game. Blind Freddie could see yesterday was appalling, and so every media outlet could to. Yes the previous 6 weeks it wasn't the right time to put your head on the line and say yes we were rubbish, it happens but to tell supporters again that we thought we trained well, thought we could cover GC but they were TOO STRONG for us just shows how sadly Mark just doesn't get it. Humbly, my avatar shows I had faith in Neeld's message, however the time is now up.
  6. I read this every week and ignore it but today I'll bite. Run me through how on today's game he 'doesn't deserve a game'.
  7. I remember Terlingua you're right that was a very bad one, pulled up and watched Waite mark.
  8. I dont dislike the post but youve given Taggert and Kent passes, ones never played AFL and one has played 2.5 quarters. If theyre good enough players they'd be playing good AFL footy. sadly there's not much to be excited about!
  9. I was at the game and Strauss was very good. Yes offensively after the first quarter he was disappointing but coming into the team for the first time since last year, against the most potent small forward line in the comp you'd forgive him for not over committing the other way. He was rooted in the last quarter and to use a racing term will be better for the run, but in the one on one contests he won most of them including a fantastic spoil on that [censored] Robinson.
  10. Amen, could almost have a positive result if he was planning on playing backline
  11. Well thats enough for me tonight. Cheers Suz
  12. I was at Casey last weekend, and I'm as shocked as you. Rodan was excellent down there, but it was clear he was just a big fish in a small pond and hadn't actually fixed any flaws he'd gone back to Casey to fix.. Why he got elevated I dont know. McKenzie was completely unsighted by me down there, yet conviniently was given 30 odd touches and given 3rd best on ground. As a purely neutral, I wouldn't have put him in our top 10 and the only thing I saw him do was miskick... It's one thing to carry a tagger when you're Freo or Carlton and have elite ball users, but our tagger can't even stop their 3rd best midfielder and the rest of our mids are useless.
  13. Not to toot my own horn here but merely raise the frustration I have with Neeld's thought process, here is a comment I made in the Casey thread. Rodan was good last weekend for Casey. It was his first game back in the VFL and Casey won by 100 points. We'd beaten GWS that weekend.. He comes back straight in after 1 good game, and he is back to some pretty useless football. A junk time goal was really all that saved his stat line and playing in a fairly hustle and bustle part of the ground 11 disposals is simply not good enough. Mark. Other clubs have players dominating VFL week in and week out and not get a game and yet we continue to congratulate mediocrity. He'll be dropped next week and the cycle will continue... It's not how professional sport should work and for the first time in 18 months, I find myself asking is this it. The zones horrific, I've never seen more players run through a corridor unmarked than against Melbourne in my whole life. I'll never give up on Melbourne, but I have no qualms on giving up on the staff within and 5 weeks in theres nothing to tell me otherwise.
  14. You've got to be ****ing me. He played as a small defender on Zorko, who was left unattended all day and all his goals were unopposed, and offensively, his last name would be more suited as turnover. Mostly good but Terlich is way out of his depth. Whilst on the topic of out of depth and the 3 word analysis; Sam Blease sucks.
  15. I will tread the line carefully here but he is a 19 year old Dane Swan. Whether either of them actually do anything bad when they're constantly out noone knows but it's the image that looks bad. Greene will have that same image in a few years and this year it seems to be effecting his footy.
  16. I'm not saying he won't come back because of the suspension I'm saying when you're a fringe 22 player and you're suspended someone comes in and takes your spot. What they do with it is than out of your hands. This week it will be I imagine Strauss or Nicholson.. Both players who I see with a future at the MFC. 2 good games in a row by them and they're not going to rush Neville Jetta straight back in. It's not rubbish, that's football. He's put his position in jeopardy because if Strauss comes back in and provides drive and beautiful skills, he MIGHT never wear the junper again. Its not rubbish its the position he put himself in and has noone to blame but himself!
  17. We won a game of footy against the worst side in the AFL and he let his team down because for the next two weeks he's sitting in the stands. He's bloody lucky he only got him with his forearm 1 inch left and it was the point of his elbow and he breaks a jaw and sits out 6 weeks. He worked bloody hard to get in the team and now he may be out of it for good, is that pathetic... Bloody oath it is. Good player Nev, good bloke too, but there's no excuse for that poor effort.
  18. Toughness isn't a dog act behind play, it's beating your player to a loose ball or backing back with the flight. Can't believe some think Jetta's act of 'toughness' was good for the team. It was a disgrace and undisciplined and the reason he can't get a game. He got beaten by an 18 year old, took his revenge and sits out 2 weeks. Good on you Neville, how pathetically weak.
  19. Belief is a big thing in footy. That last quarter was the best quarter I've seen since Freo Melbourne in 09. Will the 3rd quarter speech turn around our season?! Who knows.. I hope so. Next week we take on the Lions at the Gabba will I tip us, no but it wouldn't shock me if we did win. Belief is why Geelong the inferior team has beaten Hawthorn 10 straight times. Hawks have lost all belief and now when it's on the line they're not a chance. Now we have it back, the sky may be the limit.
  20. All others aside a player match report is due. Due to the absolute belting Casey dished out to Essendon the player reports will be on the positive side because they were just far better than Essendons youth- a pleasant change. Fitzpatrick- very frustrating but in a good way. Takes a fantastic mark than kicks it out on the full, next contest drops a chest mark wheels around bags a snap shot goal. So much potential but has always had it. Played an excellent game but still too many problems for mine to play AFL. Hope he keeps coming on. Kent- Personally thought he was very quiet in the first half but worked hard in the second half. I incorrectly labelled him a mature age recruit because he is so body ready you just can't believe he's young. Kicked 1 and was effective going forward but when I chose to follow him individually sometimes his direct opponent did beat him running hard back. Hogan- I'm keeping this short because it can be. He is that good. I laughed at times because as the ball came in you just knew he'd out muscle him. Standing with a big StKilda fan and a current AFL recruiter he couldn't help but notice similarities between him and Plugger at a young age. Huge wraps. Kicking action is super unusual though. Taggert- Hadn't seen Rory play ever and I was really impressed. I had in my head that he was quite small physically but he reminds me both facially and physically of Oliver Wines. It was from a semi distance so I could be way off but ran hard both ways, kicked truly for 2 snags and had a seemingly good motor. Liked what I saw. Rodan- was too silky for VFL. Such a big unit and very smart. He did a beautiful r50 kick that hit Hogan on the [censored] and I immediately thought experience under pressure and AFL quality posssssion. That said, I want him in the VFL for another 1-2 to get back his confidence play 3 games of footy and come into the Dees at full pace not in out in out like at the moment. Couch and Magner, James particularly jst accumulated as usual. Magner falls to the ground far far too often. Needs to keep his feet. Couch was decent but not a stand out. Tynan and Clisby- firstly the defense as a whole were exceptional. As a core group they played brilliantly and the only player who got an inch was Daniher but at VFL he's just too good. Clisby was better of the two played on a tall whereas Tynan played on the VFL small forward and got a bit of it according to stats but to be honest I didn't see much of him. His brother Luke impressed me far more. McKenzie- another interesting one. McKenzie isn't the kind of player who should/would dominate VFL because his style is at the same at both levels. I notice he was given best on but he did butcher the ball on occasion but his in and under work was standard Jordie and very impressive. Seemed like he needed the run and I'm sure could come back into the frame next week. Nicholson- like Fitzpatrick he kills me. More so actually. Takes a great intercept mark, takes 1 bounce and turns it over. Every time. His drive is great but his disposal is atrocious. I think he can be a player of the future but he's not good enough to play MFC this year, leave him in the Scorps to develop his skills and I'm sure by 2014 he can push up and try and win a spot. Strauss- As stated earlier in the thread I disagree with the softness comment but irrespective of that, his game today was very good. He took Dell'olio and Jetta so the best of Essendons small forwards and truthfully absolutely killed them. Disposal was very good but he did butcher one badly in the HB line that was lucky to not be turned into a goal. His kicking style though is so good to look at, should spend some time teaching Nicholson how to kick and Nicholson can teach him how to run off his man and drive the ball forward. 2 good games in a row now though is a very good sign. Blease- decent. I'm not a fan of his, but he gave good drive forward regularly. He is too hungry for a goal though often and it's clear the forwards already know it. They got into him. Does have certain 'Mortonisms' about him though. Spencer- By far best on ground for the Scorps. When the game was on the line he was exceptional and his second quarter was the best I've ever seen by a ruckman at VFL level. His endeavor should be admired by all MFC players and whilst he did make the occasional mistake by foot the speed in which he chased his own error and generally made up for it was to be admired. Made Jamar's play look even worse. Hope he gets a game next week with Gawn because he showed what giving a s**t really is. Overall, very impressed with Casey and seemingly coached very well by the new guy? (Name escapes me). All who were there would attest the way they switched, moved the ball from defence to attack with speed and precision was something I wish Melbourne could do. It was so refreshing to see quick ball movement and I left with a big smile on my face for the first time in a while from watching the Red and Blue. (and white)
  21. 2 games in 09 when he clearly wasn't ready.. 5ish in 2011 when he started to come before breaking a leg, 4 last year of a broken leg... I'm not sure how you come to your final conclusion. Lets wait till he plays 5 games this year before you make your ground breaking comments
  22. Very good display from Casey. Spencer dominating, all Melbourne players have been reasonable but Hogan is an absolute jet. Watching him and Daniher is like watching in 10 years time. Nicholson butchers it alot. Magner been serviceable but not amazing, Strauss rebounding been exceptionally. Kent good offensively but I can see where coaches come from, struggles to run back- though he is clearly trying to work on it!
  23. Many heading down? Ill do a report or two.
  24. Good signs. I have 1 big disappointment. Jetta, Tapscott, Evans and Pederson have all come back in and find themselves in 4 of the bottom 7 (incl. sub and subbed off) dream team stats. That doesn't mean a bad game but it means they're not getting involved enough. When you finally get your chance 7 points in a half is not enough from Jetta. Need to lift young brigade.
