  1. Won't he be restricted? We'll be sweet. No matter what other club can offer we could match it. Not like $$ or years will scare us. He's stuck with us for at least the next 2 years.
  2. Cant blame him for leaving for a finals like team. The fact that a coach like Lyon wants him so bad also shows how many of you are wrong about Col. Wish you'd done more for us mate, but 10 years of hard labour is appreciated. Better than $Cully. All the best.
  3. You'd hope his blood is red and blue, he'd be dead otherwise. Seriously though, it's a good sign.
  4. Pick 2 is HIGHLY likely to go! Huge news and very surprising. Roos is backing in our young talent, and clearly doesn't rate Aish too highly. Watch this space.
  5. Only Nathan Jones and Terlich averaged more disposals per game than Shiel this year. Obviously GWS are saying he's off the market but lieing is the first language in the AFL.
  6. Agree Kate, Shiel is rated as GWS' best midfielder. Statisically you'd say him and Treloar are their two best young mids. If we could get a young gun, with the hardest 2 years development in arrears, I think you have to take it in a heart beat.
  7. He was sub pretty much every time. Liked him when he was drafted, don't think he's been given a real chance. Wouldn't give much but if he was keen for sure we should get him
  8. Agree with the sentiment. I have never been offended if people find my posts terrible, tell me. I have no issue telling Demoneyes I think some of his rumours are terrible, you can do it in a non-offence way and even on a thread about respect people still seem to want to toe the line! It's frustrating because some of the most astute brains on here also seem to be the ones who most enjoy putting down others, I'm sure others agree but if you're out there reading this and thinking about making a splash on Demonland I guarantee you the posters on here worth impressing will be far more grateful for good input rather than good insults.
  9. Yeah for the sole reason that anyone who knows Boyd could be offended by the comments made and I wouldn't want to start a conflict over a private conversation albeit the small chance it would be. Brisbane Demon, the conversation they had as I mentioned was a few weeks ago prior to the end of the season. Roos had just been appointed and wasn't involved, but Jackson was and he was involved minimally in the interview, just as much to introduce himself and briefly outline the direction of the club. It was Viney, Mahoney and our recruiting manager but I'm not 100% sure if it was Taylor. He started the role this year didn't he... So you'd presume it was him.
  10. I'm really hijacking here, but finally I did ask if Melbourne had spoken to him before the combine.. They had. I asked him about his thoughts in coming to Melbourne, and he said like anyone you do pay attention to the terrible year they had, and how bad development and team harmony looked under Neeld. However, he stated he was shocked at how he considered their interview to be one of the most indepth and constructive. The line of questioning was very direct and the approach the club has about where it's going and the type of players it wants was very firm. They did touch on the past and expressed to him that the MFC wanted to draft players who wouldn't stand for poor results and is he the type of character who plays football for passion or because he's always been good at it. I don't know if it was a dig at current players but seemed to be incredibly interesting. I asked if he'd be happy to come to Melbourne and said yeah I'd be stoked.
  11. Sorry sorry posted before I'd finished for whatever reason. He further went on to mention that he considered himself very lucky to be in this year's draft as previous had far more depth after the top 6. He said your top 6 in the draft will be great players, have starred their whole career and have only ambitions to be the greatest possible footballers, but said after that he'd be interested to see who goes where. Said the stature of most in this years Championships were a bit smaller than that of last years comp. Don't think he played last year but maybe just knew the players involved. Regardless was quite interesting listening to someone with an actual inside view.
  12. Actually on the thread topic, last Friday I was dining with a friend when a young lad predicted to go top echelon in this draft dropped in and was nice enough to give us some of his time. Without probing too much we asked him who had contact with him, how the speeches went and where he was expecting to go. Very very interesting hearing how aggressive some teams were in getting answers, and how personal others were in asking questions I thought wouldn't normally be asked in a job interview situation. Nonetheless that topic is for another time. The important thing was he briefly bought up Tom Boyd and I asked him what he thought. They had played a few games together along the journey and I asked him if he was surprised about the hype. His response was: 'I feel sorry for him'. I replied he's about to be picked up number 1, be on $150 clicks a year and have an AFL career surely you're kidding me. His response was I'm not feeling sorry for him for that.. I feel sorry for him because he'll never ever be the player people want him to be. He is 205cm and 105kgs playing against boys. He stated in the local TAC comp, his teams FB was 81kgs. He and his teammates said his one attribute is overpowering opponents, and for his size he even does it poorly in comparison. His skills left alot to be desired and unsurprising due to his height but this lad said he was the worst below his knees for any PF he'd played with. He stated Daniher and Hogan were far better options and would influence their clubs far more. He used Patton as an example and stated how he dominated TAC Cup and since coming into the AFL has had some good games but is still yet to impose himself. Boyd isn't half of what Patton is, and compared how in the future he saw a Jack Watts (expectations far outweighing performances). He said he was a great guy, a good teammate but it was very interesting to hear. I've always said I wouldn't be interested in Boyd I just want a midfielder but given this, I'll pay close attention to his career and see if infact he was proven correct.
  13. I've completely forgotten Adam Goodes in that list. He'd be on at least 300k himself. It just reduces the amounts left. You also need to leave salary cap room for match payments to players... Something is wrong here, and I hope everyone brings up hell.
  14. Absolute farce. $9.13 million is the base salary. We add in the allowance and we call it a flat $10 million for Sydney. $2.2 mill will be to two players. That means the average wage for the remaining 42 players on the list is 185,000$. Now it sounds like alot, but Jack, Hannebury, Reid, McVeigh & Kennedy must be on minimum 350k each. All of Rookie contracts and all stars or not far off. Thats another nearly $2million of the cap. 5.7 million left for 37 players. 4 rookies can be on 50k so 5.5 million for 33 players. Let's call in 10 players on rookie contracts of an average of 100k a year that still leaves 23 non rookie players with 4.5 million. An average of 195,000. To afford players like Pyke, McGlynn, Bird, Grundy, Malceski, O'Keefe, Richards and Parker on that money which is less than what we'd be paying Tapscott is not possible.
  15. Sadly we drafted the 'bull' himself Luke Tapscott, and he's proved to be just as useless as the skinny kids. I hope all the Melbourne drafters completely ignore the past. Don't rule out skinny kids, fat kids, red heads or women.. Pick who Paul and his trusted rate will develop into an a-game player. Whoever they back, I'll support.... At least until Round 1
  16. Completely read it as Adams has no interest in us, as opposed to the other. Bit disappointed.
  17. Heard the same thing. Was on SEN. Stated he has absolutely no interest in coaching whatsoever!
  18. Pick 2 for Adams and pick 10. Pick 10 to Collingwood for Heath Shaw and their second rounder. Pick 20 and Collingwood second rounder on best available midfielder. Done
  19. Ridiculous! So we'd say no to Dane Swan, Buddy 'everyone's heard the rumour of 3 strikes' Franklin or Tom Liberatore. This club is turning a corner with the recruitment of a coach who may not be the best tactician or the best strategist, but one who is certainly the most inspirational and able to instil a belief in players. The best running half back flanker is on the market for the cheapest price you'd ever get and we're saying no he might hurt the culture. **** we're weak! Back our coaches to do their job and put him in line and we pick up our second top need at a 3rd round draft pick. Yes yes yes yes yes
  20. Cant be right. Byrnes was officially delisted by Geelong we picked him up and it affected our compo for Moloney Rivers. Think the same would apply this year.
  21. Coached draft hopeful Jack billings sprints for 3 years up until he was 16. Get me Trengoves number and I'll sort him out.
  22. It's been reported in the last 4 weeks of the season he attended 3 trainings. Ended the year in Collingwood reserves. Gave up
  23. Glad you noticed strauss towelled him that day Jumbo. Strauss watching closely I'd put as someone who could seriously develop under Roos. He's always had a defend first mantra looking at his stats he doesn't get much of it but he rarely gets beaten and play quite a tight tag. Really believe Roos could now bring out the attacking presence in him and we could. Have a very very serviceable back pocket
