Probably because they were champions of the club, not a fly-in fly-out player who gave the bare minimum service. I'd have him back if we needed a toilet cleaned.
  2. As discussed in tonight's podcast, on demonwiki.org we've been compiling a list of all the MFC connected players who served in wars as well as the better known list of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This stretches from the Boer War to the Korean War, and is very much a work in progress so if anyone can shed more light on the service of the players listed below please get in contact via the forum or [email protected]. Fortunately the format copies perfectly from the page (http://demonwiki.org/Players+who+served+during+war) to this forum, so here's the list. The * denotes a non-senior player (e.g. from a lower grade or trained with us without playing a game). A particularly interesting story is the Couve brothers, who both trialled in the 1912 pre-season but didn't play a game and were struck down just 15 days apart during the Gallipoli landings. And watch bad teams get stomped in spectacular fashion like they used to in the VFA. Imagine if you took our 2012/13 teams and added even more open space on the ground - we'd have topped 186 and 190. The benefits when good teams play each other might be worth it, but there will be less than zero benefit for the people that watch their team lose by 25 goals each week. As for full ground 6-6-6 that is just dead-set insanity and anyone who thinks it's a good idea should have to undergo a urine test before posting.
  4. Felt like we're never a good contested mark team, so I went back and looked at the stats and we were second last year behind West Coast. Was a bit of an anomaly considering we've been 11th/3rd/11th/16th in the years before that. 3rd place in 2015 was propped up by Hogan's 47 (third most in the league), and last year Gawn had 55 for third best in the league.
  5. Sydney bloke no effort to raise the hand and collect the ball. That was the second of my 2-0 lifetime record at the MCG. Maybe I should go on Thursday?
  6. Not groundbreaking news that we'd be better with Lever, May and Lewis but I liked this bit.
  7. Still angry about that bulltish 50 against Rivers
  8. Most of the players who Kingsley us end up in the VFL three weeks later.
  9. Supermercado replied to Redleg's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Except when T. Mac kicked 53 goals last year.
  10. He's right, but does he think they'd be playing if Lever and May were available?
  11. He doesn't need to be Gawn fit if he doesn't play ruck all day. Basically what we're saying here is that everything relies on Max, and if he goes down then god help us all.
  12. Highlight is fans treating Connolly like Pol Pot now, when at the time he was doing exactly what the majority of Melbourne supporters wanted. Though you did think it was going to be a controlled conspiracy, not an edge of the seat thrill ride thrown into life by the unexpected win over Port.
  13. We once employed a coach that didn't have Plan A
  14. They'll have to run through another banner Saturday morning if we lose.
  15. Thanks to @WERRIDEE for scores and goalkickers. Assume the club might have some sort of bash at VFL coverage once the real stuff starts, but given that the last two weeks have been trial games for senior selection in all but the award of premiership points their commitment to telling people what's going on has been pox.
  16. How is going out and buying expensive players for top 10 draft picks 'Moneyball'? What a rag of a publication. Edit: Have just realised the whole column is called Moneyball. Still a rag.
  17. Classic SEN clickbait. Website advertising revenue must be keeping the whole operation afloat.
  18. Was fine for a state league side when they were solo. We've taken off, pulled their website under ours and obviously sent the Twitterist to Tahiti for the winter.
  19. Based on the RIchmond pre-season game Preuss would have been dead by half time if we'd tried to play him as the solo ruckman in the heat. I'd play him this week but has to be as a second banana, not first ruck. Wish there was a mature, competent ruckman we could have parked on the rookie list as an emergency option - if Gawn went down with a serious issue we'd be in all sorts. Got away with it a couple of years ago, don't think we would now.
  20. One team in 120 years coming back from a 0-6 start isn't much of a comfort. May as well say West Coast came back from 0-1 to win the flag last year so start queuing for Grand Final tickets now.
  21. The Casey coverage is dire. At least when they had their own website you'd know who the goalkickers were. P.S - Has anyone checked on the welfare of Casey's Twitterist? @caseydemonsFC last posted anything on March 12 and has four total posts this year.
  22. Hope they finish 1/2 in the B&F of a team that runs last.
  23. Supermercado replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Shouldn't put your hand on it* until you win it. * Yes, yes settle down
  24. It looks horrible, but considering all the other shenanigans going on around the game not worth starting a picket line over if you were a Dogs fan. Also hard to take the moral highground while following a club that props up its profit by flogging two games interstate every year. I'm sure the stakes are much lower with their novelty jumper but I'd wear anything it meant playing one of the NT games at home.
  25. Nothing on the VFL site (except a full time score with no links) and Casey's website has been wiped out for a half-arsed sub-page on the MFC site. Hadn't considered NEAFL site but nada from them or the Lions either. Now, I know the interested audience would be limited to single digits but I still need this for the sake of completeness. Have tweeted @ the Casey account to see if they have anything.
