As discussed in tonight's podcast, on demonwiki.org we've been compiling a list of all the MFC connected players who served in wars as well as the better known list of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This stretches from the Boer War to the Korean War, and is very much a work in progress so if anyone can shed more light on the service of the players listed below please get in contact via the forum or [email protected]. The * denotes a non-senior player (e.g. from a lower grade or trained with us without playing a game). A particularly interesting story is the Couve brothers, who both trialled in the 1912 pre-season but didn't play a game and were struck down just 15 days apart during the Gallipoli landings. And watch bad teams get stomped in spectacular fashion like they used to in the VFA. Imagine if you took our 2012/13 teams and added even more open space on the ground - we'd have topped 186 and 190. The benefits when good teams play each other might be worth it, but there will be less than zero benefit for the people that watch their team lose by 25 goals each week. As for full ground 6-6-6 that is just dead-set insanity and anyone who thinks it's a good idea should have to undergo a urine test before posting.

Felt like we're never a good contested mark team, so I went back and looked at the stats and we were second last year behind West Coast. Was a bit of an anomaly considering we've been 11th/3rd/11th/16th in the years before that. 3rd place in 2015 was propped up by Hogan's 47 (third most in the league), and last year Gawn had 55 for third best in the league.

Was fine for a state league side when they were solo. We've taken off, pulled their website under ours and obviously sent the Twitterist to Tahiti for the winter.

Based on the RIchmond pre-season game Preuss would have been dead by half time if we'd tried to play him as the solo ruckman in the heat. I'd play him this week but has to be as a second banana, not first ruck. Wish there was a mature, competent ruckman we could have parked on the rookie list as an emergency option - if Gawn went down with a serious issue we'd be in all sorts. It looks horrible, but considering all the other shenanigans going on around the game not worth starting a picket line over if you were a Dogs fan. Also hard to take the moral highground while following a club that props up its profit by flogging two games interstate every year. I'm sure the stakes are much lower with their novelty jumper but I'd wear anything it meant playing one of the NT games at home.

Hadn't considered NEAFL site but nada from them or the Lions either. Now, I know the interested audience would be limited to single digits but I still need this for the sake of completeness.
