  1. So now having read some the media and seen the lawyer interview it is indeed appalling that he was subjected to this vilification on field and allegedly off it. But I do note that there was a contrite and fulsome public apology from the Bulldogs player concerned and clubs along with the AFL appeared to make an attempt to deal with this including taking away a supporters membership etc. And while there are claims from the 'no fee no win ' lawyer that the behaviour was institutionalised, ongoing and nothing was done it is hard to comment further without knowing the full facts. But like the Adam Goodes 'ape' case where McGuire made a contrite and fulsome public apology it appears that this is not enough for some. In Goodes case he refused to accept McGuire's apology and i believe he lost a lot of support from the general public over that. It remains to be seen what the AFL did to mitigate Wilkinson's situation and whether that was significantly deficient or whether lawyers have concvinced him to chase a payout. Certainly this behaviour does not appear to be prevalent on the AFL today (I am guessing we would hear about it if it was) Aside from these two cases and along with the #metoo movements etc there does appear to be some kind of new, developing trend where a kind of retiribution is sought in the form of financial penalties, public vilification, loss of job and livelihood etc for past behaviour sometimes even in cases that would appear to have been resolved via apologies, payouts and the like. It's a messy world and I hope that Wilkinson finds his peace with things but I can't help but worry in a broader sense when alleged 'perpetrators' are forced to resign from positions or suffer public humiliation often without the burden of proof being tested.
  2. I wasn't doing that. Not sure if you are responding to my post.
  3. Like I said, I know nothing about the specific circumstances of this player.
  4. Tom Morris Sr. Old Tom Morris didn't invent the game of golf, but he is recognized as the sport's founding father. He played in the first 36 British Opens, winning four times, and sired a son, Tom Morris Jr., who won the world's oldest golf championship four times on his own. Morris still holds two British Open records—oldest champion (age 46 in 1867) and largest victory margin (13 in 1862).
  5. We live in a grievance culture where everyone holds the right not to be 'offended' and many actually go out of their way to look for offence. Don't know the speciific circumstances of this player (have never heard of him before now) but it seems like as long as people take offence (for offence is always taken and never given) then we will continue to have these issues. Check out this pathetic example of a woman professor (of gender studies no less) that claims she was offended when pushing the buttons in a lift and a man made a lame joke saying "ladies' lingerie". I am not kidding. https://www.chronicle.com/article/He-Makes-a-Joke-She-Isn-t/243350
  6. Daniher = spud Most over rated footballer in the AFL bar none.
  7. 6 Oliver 5 Hogan 4 Hibberd 3 Brayshaw 2 Jetta 1 Gawn
  8. You called the umpire a liar.
  9. Thanks for the explanation. I did look it up though and actually there is no rule. Another AFL interpretation. The only front on rule concerns a player bending down to pick up the ball.. The rules say nothing at all about the situation above. I also remember a situation with Jack Watts playing against Port in the NT. Last line of defence, Watts ran front on to the player and punched the ball, then collided with the Port player. Free to Port for front on contact.
  10. Can anyone explain why Weideman wasn't given a free for front on contact in the first qtr when the Saint player ran straight through him? He did hit the ball with his fist but made no attempt to mark the ball. I thought this was an automatic 'front on' free? I have seen much lesser incidents paid....
  11. The prblem with this is that the media have already piled on saying "Jesse did this last year and needs to eradicate it out of his game" etc It's total Bullshiite and he will now have a 'reputation' as a stager like Lindsay Thomas etc. The club needs to defend Jesse strongly and tell the muppets in the media to [censored] off. And while we are at it what Jetta getting punched in the face? The club should make a stand on this as well.
  12. Yes my point was that there is no delete button for posts. One must put something in the box so I put a full stop!
  13. We did win all 4 quarters yesterday which is a rarity. It looked pretty comfortable but if we are really being honest St Kilda's kicking was a massive help. Our defence held up really well generally. Hibberd was immense, OMac looked very solid, Hunt gave good run, Lever was composed and smart, Jetta was a rock and Lewis was excellent. Having said that we still allow too many shots on goal and need to tighten up against the good teams.
  14. The umpire clearly said he was hit to the throat. Why commentators couldn't hear that is beyond a joke.
  15. The umpire said twice, clearly, "you hit him in the throat". More media BS. Its like when Jetta was punched to the chin, no comment from the peanuts, move on. Or when Jetta was poleaxed by McCartin after Jetta took the mark. Way too late, no 50m penalty and all of the commentary was about poor McCartin and his concussion. Well if he cannons into people with his head he aint gonna play too many games,
  16. Nev Jetta was punched to the head. No free or no comment from the commentators. the McCartin hit on nev was also late and could easily have been a 50.
  17. It's a shame because you could watch Oscar all day long
  18. I believe the deffinition of a scoring chain is anyone that handled the ball (a possession) that results in a score after a stoppage (incl centre bounce), turnover or kick in. It is objective and not qualitative so that the quality of the disposal is not looked at. ie if a player handballs to the ground but we retain possession then it is counted.
  19. A bit strange OD. You'd write him off if he doesn't have a blinder this weekend? He has shown a bit this year. A few of his contested marks have been fantastic. Not sure if he is ever going to be the 6 goal a game fwd though.....way too early to be writing him off.
