Gary Pert on SEN (16/9/21)
Pretty sure Pert was CEO at Collingwood when they lost $1.5m having gone large on 'Side-by-side' merchandise anticipating a GF win. Hopefully he has learnt some lessons.

Jake Melksham
He was brought in specifically to play on McGovern and did a very good job. Not sure if that role is enough to keep him tho...

Jake Bowey article
Feel for Hunt having played 21 games this year.... As for Bowey, great article. Can't believe he is 8cm TALLER than his dad!!

Sam Weideman re-signs until 2023
Not sure you can '"surpassed" him. Pretty sure I read that Tommo had only been beaten once in a one on one contest since being moved back Nonetheless Tommo's fitness and endurance means that he can be played in a number of positions. Petty has already demonstrated he can do that as well. And people shoudn't forget we have been blessed with few injuries so have spare capacity as it were is a good thing. We are lucky to be in such as spot which is why if Weideman goes its not the end of the world.

Congratulations Nathan Jones!
Why is everybody assuming Jones is retiring? Highly likely he won't get a contract at Melbourne but its possible he may play on...

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY
It's the same modset that saw Sam Mitchel go through the 2000 draft I think and langish at Box Hill before being taken with a late-ish in 2001. Pidgeon-holed as too short Moneyball springs to mind...

Jason Taylor Re-Signs on Long Term Deal (2021 Thread)
With 9 of our regulars 22 and under AND some talent that hasn't yet debuted we have created a springboard for a sustainable tilt at success. Recruiting like Geelong rarely works altho it has them up there for a long period. I reckon they would trade all those finals appearances for one more flag. You could argue hawthorn tried it and succeeded to a certain extent but its an awfully big fall if you get it wrong. Brisbane tried in 2004 as well going for a 4 peat - arguably worth trying with a reduced ageing list. West Coast look like they are at the cross roads and could easily drop away sharply. Collingwood has no cap space and no draft picks so could be in trouble as well. Its a fine balancing act and ever since they brought in trading future picks its been a bit of a lottery as to how that has worked out. We shouldnt be cocky but I think we are in safe hands..

GRAND FINAL: Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
This is not directed at you but annoys me more than most things. We're all in the same storm but some are in superyachts and some are in tinnies. The pollies and the public servants are by and large immune from this disaster with their secure jobs, pay rises and working from home allowances

Keath has done two hammy' since rd 19. Make him run hard.

GRAND FINAL: Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
Bailey's team had high scores but gave up some big scores as well. One thing having Roos steady the ship is that we were able to recruit players from oter clubs. It's kinda forgotten but no-one wanted to come to the Dees. We got Vince then Lewis and that enabled us to turn the corner and become an attractive destination. Lever and May were two huge sgnings that would not have been possible in the previous decade or so.

GRAND FINAL: Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
Just watche dgame again. Umps killed us 19-6 at 3/4 time. Some howlers they scored direct goals. We missed at least 5 goals. Kicked 9 g 11b Fritsch and Brown were main offenders Got cleaned up in the stoppages 31-27. They got several fwd stoppage goals Got back to within 4 points in the last despite the free kick count killing us in the last. The kicked the last 3. It was pouring with rain in the 1st qtr and we missed our chances, That break was essentially the game. Keith went off with a hammy in the first. Schache tagged lever. Daniel was left alone 'out the back' - cannot do that again. Langdon played on JJ, Brayshaw on Hunter They used a lot of short kicks to break through our defence. Los of throws and dropped balls. They had often 2 extras at the stoppages They don't scare me at all. But we need to play the game on our terms and pressure them reentlessly
