  1. Good for Hunt coming off half back
  2. Hunt is playing half back
  3. Become a marginal electorate
  4. Lachie Henderson discussing the rule in the little paper. Says that once the umpire has called "stand", the player must stand and cant move backwards out of the protected area. "Henderson says if a supporting player charges into space inside 50m with no other defender in sight, the defender will just have to stand and watch while it is kicked to them. Previously a player could man the mark then abandon it to pick up an opponent running into space." Maybe ANB will get a lot of goals this year running into open space behind defenders...
  5. Its the umpires themselves - or at least one senior umpire Shaun Ryan - that is alerting people to the fact that this rule is likely to cause chaos.
  6. This is what I was alluding to. A player on the mark can go back 5m and then 10m laterally either side. It might be preferable to do that and stop a player from running around... Of course it will all be interpretation and will all happen fairly quickly. And like when they introduced the protected zone it will be a dog's breakfast that will be overpoliced in the first 4 weeks and then forgotten about for 18 weeks until melbourne is winning a game to make the finals and we get pinged because some cretinous umpire drags out this rule again. The resulting 50m penalty and goal costs us a spot in the finals...
  7. I think the 'protected zone' extends for 5m behind the player on the mark. So a player in theory could move back 5m and then move laterally...
  8. Makes all of the comment about his "intention" in the ridiculous sling tackle suspension look pretty stupid.
  9. The AFL has warned in briefings to clubs that even the slightest movement to the left or right from the man on the park will incur an immediate 50m penalty. Umpires now warning that this absurd change will be incredibly difficult to police and the effects either way will have a big influence as 50m penalty may be awarded or missed. Remember when they introduced the pritected zone how over zealous the umps were ? This is likely to be a lot worse.... The Rule 1. Players on the mark will be told to “stand” by the umpires. They can jump straight up but have to land in the same spot. 2. Any lateral movement from the man on the mark before "play on" is called will incur a 50m penalty. 3. It means players on the mark will not be permitted to take a single step to the left or right before "play on" is called. 4. Once the player in possessions moves off his line and "play on" is called, the man on the mark is free to leave their position. The AFL are idiots.
  10. I have a different take, High half forward is possibly the most difficult position to play. You have to rely on a lot of things happening up the field, you run to make position - get ignored 20x a match , have to defend and finish off with goals. A half back flanker can take the play on and be more creative. They get more freedom to move. Particularly as their opponents move up the ground... So it looks like they are our weakest players but so much has to go right for a half forward to get 20 touches in a game, let alone week in week out....
  11. Maybe they watched "To Hell and Back" and thought better of involving melbourne....
  12. You'd be surprised....
  13. Lucky we still have TMac and MBrown (that most wanted to get rid of) Add Jackson, Petty and we have just enough talls. We also have our excuse for not performing in 2021. Perfect for the pollyanna's that are always looking to next year.
  14. 1, Goodwin rarely shows emotion so not sure how you come to that conclusion 2. The scenarios would have been workshopped on numerous occasions with the coach, list manager etc. I doubt there were any surprises to the team and the discussions to me looked like a little last minute 'are you sure?, everyone happy?' sort of thing. Like going to an auction where you set out at a certain price and it gets there slowly or quickly and you adjust your expectations on the run. But you still get back to your basic plan.
  15. Ive been critical of him but he has been absolutely professional in his approach. Hats off to him. Won't die wondering.
  16. You gotta let the cobblers cobble.
  17. "I know its one of your things Goody but they love their footy, that's why they're so good and don't make mistakes" " We got the two best kicks. And the two best decision makers" "Could be a Sam Mitchel type" I love this fly on the wall stuff. Great insight
  18. Hunt kicked 10 goals 2 last year.
  19. To the poster that asked about Yze, FWIW I was chatting to a player last week that said the mids absolutely love Yze. Bringing lots of new intel/initiatives to the group. He didn't really have much more to add unfortunately.
  20. the replies here are hilarious. We are the Kings of relying on excuses: Last year it was 'we had to play 2 games in Cairns' 2019 it was pre-season surgeries 'they changed the 6:6:6 rule' is probably my favourite Until Melbourne start winning games consistently commentators will keep saying this stuff.
  21. A report written by activist lawyer Larissa Behrendt finds systemic racism. Color me shocked. I'm shocked that Collingwood used such a divisive commentator to write a report for them. What were they expecting? Behrendt once described fellow indigenous commentator, Bess Price, on twitter in disgraceful terms: "I watched a show where a guy had sex with a horse and I'm sure it was less offensive than Bess Price." Charming
  22. Hunt will flourish this year. Being moved back to the half back line where he can play with more freedom and utlise his strongest asset. Will be one of the top 3 improvers.
  23. You must have lost a bet to have that avatar....
  24. Kicking 9 goals in the second half of a game presumably qualifies to your lofty standards?
  25. 1. They werent all pack marks. 2. Get back to me when he takes 6 pack marks in the ones
