Saturday Morning on Demonland (2)
As good as we were, I think people should reflect that the two biggest goal runs against us were in our last 4 matches. Geelong in round 23 kicked 8 unanswered as did the Bulldogs. No one else did that all year. The fact that it happened in big games should make us be a little more circumspect about our good form. Yes it was great we were able to come back from those two big runs but..... if we are to be better as a team we have to stop those in the first place. We won't always be able to come back from those positions like we did in the 2 games above.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
I look at the round 23 game differently now. The comments from the peanut gallery were 'you've done nothing', 'the cats took their foot off the gas' etc But the belief the players got from coming back against the odds at a hoodoo ground coupled with the momentum in the second half were simply breathtaking. The 3 finals games were a juggernaut because of that momentum and belief. And now we have a flag, the players know that their sacrifices are worth it, their selflessness is the key, there is nothingthey cannot do, there are no barriers to success any more and if they continue to work the next 5 years could be pretty special. Go Dees

There is a webcast interview with Burgo on SEN you can search for it. It was about rotations. They were all good to go.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
We sang about twenty songs in the aftermath of the GF/ Who cares Nonetheless the Dee crowd should sing Freed from Desire in unison when next we play them.

Proved them wrong
Massive fail for that team to only win one flag. Such a dominant team Completely stuffed up their salary cap. Giving Mercuri a 5/6 year deal on mega coin and others as well. Dumping Caracella, Blomfield and Heffernan (to the Dees) because of the cap Destroyed the fabric of the club. Well done Kevin. I hope Melbourne are more well managed than that. Dumping premiership players in that manner is playing with fire.

Well i guss its a mea culpa of sorts. Still he gets a few wrong: Tominson C grade. Didn't he only lose 1 one on one contest in his past 15 games? Pickett? Kicked over 40 goals in possiby the hardest position on the ground. ANd he broings manic pressure. Cyril kicked 40 goals only twice in his career. And he's 20yo He's not a future AB he's a A already "Would walk into any team"

Great stuff peoples thanks.

1990
This the year that Garry Lyon in his book says the Dees should have won. No clear stand out team, Melb had a good team and good record but had to travel to Perth which cruelled their chances.

This is great analysis. Thanks One note. The guy narrating is a bit slow/boring so suggest you increase the speed to 1.5X or 1.75X under settings....

How far off were we from a perfect 2021?
It comes from Athletics where a runner for example will do a big block of heavy training say 1 month before a race and taper their workload as they reach their performance date. The aim is to be in peak physical condition for the big race. Clubs have adapted that to football and If I recall correctly Neil Criag and CHarlie Watts (the Olympic cycling coach) introduced it to Adelaide under Malcolm Blight. They won back to back flags in 97/98 Big blocks of hard training during July to be in peak condition for finals.

Frees 25 to 11. Dogs kicked 7 goals from fwd half stoppages - that was never going to happen again. We got to within 4 pts late in the last qtr. Bucketing with rain at the beginning - the end margin was close to the 1st qtr margin. Not much in it.
