  1. Wow. Some good names on these lists. Good to see everyone remembers the names from their own personal heyday - for some reason they always seem better... For me T Viney B Lovett A Jakovich B Wilson S Tingay R Jackson G Lyon D Schwartz S 'Strawberry' O'Dwyer/ J Stynes (they were definitely a duo as such one person...) Torn between Danny Hughes and Sean Wight to round out the top 10 Strangely couldn't fit in Robbie Flower - I was twelve in '87 Robbie's last year/ the return to finals, I remember being a kid in the rooms running between and around the legs of the greats of the late 70's and early eighties many many times but strangely have a greater memory of the grunt and brilliance of Brian Wilson and don't fully recall the grace of Robbie. I wish I could remember more of Robbie other than he was really really nice off field. I recall how Peter Daicos made time stand still and was just a magician, I put Robbie in that class but unfortunately the memories aren't as sharp as they should be. I would have seen him play live a good 1 to 200 times. Hmmm
  2. Yep.... Apparently both Melbourne teams suck. A good boxing day is all that is required to regain my faith in test cricket - plus a few hours listening to the 12th man! Then again once boxing day test is over, we will have all January to watch big bash games
  3. Poor bloke twice in 2 years. Big year coming up in the gym! On the positive side it Gives the lad another year to fill out his 7 foot frame. Would think he would be training in the 2nd half of the year but wit all the big blokes we now have you would think he won't be risked by playing the last few games in Casey two's
  4. Correct on all counts Macca Btw Go renegades
  5. Crompton, I think I can summarise - Netball: a game designed by orthopaedic surgeons for orthopaedic surgeons.
  6. Amongst many of the decisions Paul Gardiner made - he diminished 'the Demons' aspect to concentrate on Melbourne FC to capitalise on the name and push into China. We have only just rebranded ourselves as Demons again - keep the Demons and make them strong, we are a football club again nor a franchise
  7. Wait for the scans people. Many, if not most knee injuries are minor. A scan is the logical step for any afl players knee injuries no matter what is wrong. He may have redone his ACL, but without doing any of the tests we don't know. He may well have a medial ligament or a torn meniscus both quite minor or a PCL or any other myriad of knee injuries. Wait for the scans before announcing that the sky is falling
  8. Be brave, be bold, said it many times here before make it happen. I hate this conservative mental attitude by many folk - lets wait one more year, he isn't quite ready, its the same as near enough is good enough lets just accept mediocrity All garbage the kid is ready now, the generation around him see him as the leader, no else is close to what the kid will offer over many years. Be brave take a risk and reap the rewards or die trying, but atleast we had a dip if we do it now. If you want 'older heads' to surround him have Beamer, Jamar, Frawls and even keep Greeny in the leadership group to help him out.
  9. Sorry Biff. The recently late Stuart Spencer might sneak in front - B&F '55 '56 two of the triple premiership years. Good bloke to boot, was a great guy to have a beer with up in the coterie room
  10. Perhaps 'THEO X', when Schwarta got his new number plates which should have read THE OX, he parked his car in the Rev. Daniher's spot before training... In storms Danners screaming who the hell is this Theo X character who has parked in my spot... Still known as Theo in some quarters.
  11. Rather than Hijack the anyone for cricket thread which should be reserved for the Aussie side, thought I'd start a big bash thread Obviously we all support Melbourne, so therefore by default we will support either the Stars or the Renegades and hope for a Stars v Rengades final - that is a given. However who has your allegiance Stars lineup George Bailey, James Faulkner, John Hastings, Jon Holland, David Hussey, Alex Keath, Clint McKay, James Pattinson, Rob Quiney, Peter Siddle, Chris Simpson, Adam Voges, Matthew Wade, Shane Warne, Cameron White ©. Overseas players: Jade Dernbach, Luke Wright. Coach: Greg Shipperd. renegades line up Ryan Carters, Aaron Finch, Shane Harwood, Aaron Heal, Jayde Herrick, Michael Hill, Brad Hodge, Graham Manou, Glenn Maxwell, Andrew McDonald, Brenton McDonald ©, Dirk Nannes, Nathan Reardon, Will Sheridan, Shaun Tait. Overseas players: Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi. Coach: Simon Helmot. Both look like exciting line up and my heart bleeds for my favorite Vic's - Huss, Sids, White throw in Pattinson and warne and you get excited. However McDonald(s), hodge, tait, nannies, Razzaq, Afridi, hardwood and Finch may just pip them for mine. I for one can't wait for what will become the premier game of cricket in years to come, don't get me wrong I love test cricket - unfortunately it is dying and not a commercial success 20/20 will be the form of the game that stays alive for years to come
  12. W is for Winning... Something this club should never ever try not to do again!
  13. From the clip he Looks a lot like the Dawes, L. Brown type that everyone has been screaming for. Along Leroy himself to coach - I like it.
  14. Had a lot to do with Caulfield Grammar first XVIII these last 2 years - young Jordie Kelly is a quality kid and good CHB type, needs to fill out a bit as do most 17/18 year olds. We could do (and have done!!) a lot worse than pick him up, there was a real qualtiy about the core group from this side -Jordie along with Tommy Bugg (preselected by GWS) and Seb Gotch carried them a long way
  15. Absolute garbage Thomo. What he does away from the club is irrelevant. AFL footballers are well paid because they good at playing football. Just because you get the chance top lay at the highest level doesn't make you an angel, it doesn't make you a role model for the kiddies. The media and the marketing guys do that and expect you to conform to what makes them more money! How many elite level sportsmen out there were (or are) dead set scholars, they are generally the guys not doing schoolwork, going out and getting drunk on weekends at 15 years of age, but all of a sudden we expect footballers to be mother Theresa. No. If we want to succeed at football - you need a bit of good old fashioned mongrel, which is mutually exclusive from what the marketing guys want. Professional sportsmen all over the world have a degree of FIGJAM, are serial womanisers, generally binge drink (in or out of season), enjoy a punt, and have many other character flaws that we the general public decree is unacceptable because they are 'professional sportsmen'.... Get into the athletes village at the Olympics and see what professional athletes get up to.... I'm not saying we should get Fev to the dee's as he probably isn't the right fit for us, but hold on he is no worse than many of the 'professional' athletes you must think are just heavenly creatures
  16. So what exactly has he done lutz? Any mor than the average 20-30 year old? Other than a serious gambling problem which many many people have he is only guilty of repeated minor adolescent stupidity. I can guarantee I have done many more drunken stupid things (as has most local level footballing males) than what Fev has. Seriously - he wore a strap on to a mad Monday, he [censored] on wall outside a restaurant in chapel street woopdy doo, hardly major offences, quite probably if you add up everything he did it might actually add up to a good Saturday night. Carlton really are the ones at fault for for not pulling his head into gear to be able to prepare himself as an elite footballer. I don't know Fev but I'm sick to death of this Fev is a cancer, holier than thou crap. I wish every in the media adopted this policy - let those without sins cast the first stones......
  17. Got $5.99 a kilo at Vic markets on Saturday - was stoked to have my first banana in an eternity...... Until walking into woollies 2 hours later $5.49 kg -got ripped by Vic markets!!!!! Not happy jan/ end rant
  18. can't say that I'll be at that particular game - however will be moving up to Canberra over the Chrissy break. Will probably go to all their games a Manuka oval - especially the one where I'll have a reserved seat for the dee's game.
  19. My favorite front page headline from the old school record - 'Rover Ricky roosts four' - really don't know why that one sticks out, however we really didn't get much front cover action in those days. However this thread needs way more Jakovich. How about this one - might be just a little top heavy though: Spalding Schwarz (pre knee) Lyon Jakovich Bennett Neitz
  20. Just read an article about infiniti launching in Australia soon. Infiniti are to Nissan what Lexus is to toyota - ie. their Luxury version. I would hope if we don't have the BoM deal across the line, that Schwabby would have sounded them out
  21. Bate to Western Bulldogs Maric to North Jordan Lisle to the Dees mentioned here http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/saints-field-offers-for-gram/story-fn69a32t-1226163554972 Don't know much about Lisle other than all aussie u18 - anyone know much?
  22. The footy club I look after (Bentleigh) borrowed the Dee's clash jumper for their final 2 games this year (prelim & grandy in SFL) the guy who organised it let slip that the new sponsor going on the front was BoM, hence the club were happy to lend the jumpers out as they have to get replaced. He isn't a demon fan, nor had any idea that energy watch had already signed up, and nothing had been announced about the front. Take out that what you will
  23. There's only one way to get degenerative OP - overuse and crap core stability - my qeury continues - who's role was it to oversee Luke's Training load and make sure his his core can support the load? Not looking for perfection RP, just having a little query. Misson comes as the equal best credentialed in the business, however Luke Ball remains a little black dot. i don't fully know the ins and outs of it, overuse injuries happen - however everyone down a saintland buggered up there. Not saying that will be case with any of our guys just some food for thought and another point of view to balance out the gushing of praise thats going on here. Between Neeld, Misson and Neil Craig they should be able to get a gut busting preseason out without causing too many injuries
  24. Misson comes with a MASSIVE reputation, has done so much for St Kilda and Sydney, however i have a cautionary query at the back of my head, might be nothing might be something - it took Luke Ball leaving St Kilda to get his body right. Not sure if this should be directed at Misson or at Andrew Wallis (their physio), Dr Barbour (their head doc) and their coaching crew (especially Lyon). Grimey reminds me of Luke - Gun when right however St Kilda's group of support staff didn't get it right with Luke. I'm hoping it wasn't Misson's fault and therefore he'll be able to get Grimey right
