  1. Yes, this is starting to concern me too. It has now been months since the announcement of Energywatch, and whilst Schwab said there were a few other possibiilities, nothing has happened since. Worrying to say the least. The only explanation i can think of, besides not having one in the works, is that they might announce it at the AGM. If not, i'd hope that this is brought up at the AGM and i'd want a bloody good reason why achieving a second major sponsor had not already been achieved.
  2. Davis definitely has some size about him. A fair bit bigger (bulk-wise) than Tom McDonald. Whilst he may have had a set-back with a broken leg, James Strauss has definitely put on some serious muscle, without getting fat either. Said he was aiming for a return in round 2 of the NAB cup. As for those who say Max Gawn is a man-mountain, please.........Sure he is tall, but he has got a long way to go to get anywhere near Stef Martin's muscle size. Still gangly and previous training reports, imo, have been very generous in size gained. Funniest thing i saw from today was Jack Fitzpatrick's running style. When running, he moves his neck like a racehorse does at full speed (stretches it out). Of the front-runners, Bate was very willing to continue with the 200/300m repetitive runs, and was starting to really show his endurance and easily outpaced Couch in the last few runs. Nicho was always ahead of Jones, but he wasn't too far behind, pacing off the back of him. The repeat runs are definitely not one of Jared Rivers' strong suits. Morton, Jordie and Bartram really earned their money today, walking about 8 laps before going back indoors early.
  3. Beat me to it Greeny. As tweeted on the MFC website, so should be a good session (weather-wise)
  4. That's all well and good, but then we're gonna possibly have our own problems with the cap in a few years time when our kids develop more. Throw in Viney plus another 2 quality kids from next years' draft (better talent compared to the one just passed) and we're gonna have to be careful with our own backyard before we start poaching. If it came down to raiding another clubs kids or keeping our own (hopefully all of Viney + 2x compo pick players become great MFC players), i'd take the latter, as they would have come from a stronger draft. Let other clubs tear GWS and to a certain extent GC a new one, whilst we just sit back and enjoy it all, keeping all our talent and cap in tact.
  5. Of the players right around our picks, going on the AFL's phantom draft, it wouldn't be unrealistic if we had the choice of either Frost/Grigg at pick 36, Manson at pick 52, and Waldhuter at pick 54. If we were to walk away with these kids at those picks, we would have done very well, imo.
  6. Yeah, but the chances of that happening with picks around the early-late teens is very slim. Thank christ character never came into the calculation of compensation, as we would've been lucky to get a pick within the top 100.
  7. There is no way that this won't get very personal for Melbourne fans now. Proof that T$ had made up his mind even before the end of his first year at the club. Mods should allow for some leniency in this thread, as no post will get anywhere close to the offensive behaviour towards the MFC of that riff-raff family. The whole family wreaks of corruption (talk about $ullying the family name). Tom for happily being the puppet and b/sing everyone (especially Jim), Jabber the hut (for pressuring and influencing T$), the mum (who would have sat back happily knowing full well what her 2 'men' (anything but) were plotting and the sister (who seems to want to spray the caucasian off of her). Clearly this whole family places possessions and money as the be-all-end-all. Thank f&%k that such people are no longer associated with the MFC. I'd suggest something along the lines of his waistline being bigger than Scully's contract. They're all to blame, they all corrupted the system, AFL will do jack, as it would prove that they get things wrong from time-to-time. Don't think the ego's of Demetriou, Anderson and Fitzpatrick could accomodate for that. Would stand and applaud JT if he decided to risk half his season and sling tackle T$ and his knee into the car-park below the MCG turf. Shatter the sh!t out of it. T$ was a deceptive bugger, i knew that, didn't like it, but moved on. The blatant and apparent contempt he had for my club is downright insulting. Seriously, who the f%$k does he think he is? It just disgusts me. Shits about to get personal come round 13. Build up will be huge, as we have a bye before that game.
  8. Not quite, we're not even the oldest football club in the world. Sheffield United was founded in 1857. And the reason the MFC was formed was to keep cricket players fit during the winter months, so one would naturally assume that there were cricket clubs around before us too.
  9. i was talking from a general KPF sense, not saying that Watts had a problem with it, more-so, that he simply cannot fall into this category, seeing that he will be a major piece of our puzzle when we start to seriously challenge. He can go one of 2-ways IMO, the soft path or the ruthless and unforgiving path, Neeld is doing anything and everything he can to make him the latter (as quickly as possible). Morton is well and truly down the former path, but Neeld is trying (in vain IMO) to drag him over to the other side. Apologies for the confusion, it wasn't as clear as i intended it to be.
  10. When one thinks of Morton, Watts or Davey, they don't think of fierceness. Who has he challenged? 3 guys who don't seem to have a "well screw you, i'm gonna show you up" demeanour. Maybe he is trying to develop a little more mongrel in all 3 or poke the bear and not stop until her gets a response. Of course, you could say the same thing about Trengove, but he is a true competitor who loves it rough and physical, who wants to lead. The other 3, i'm not so sure. Particularly with Watts, as you can't have a KPF who worries if his opponent is a little hurt. He needs to develop a killer instinct (within the rules of course, let's not go Barry Hall style), one i think Neeld is trying to accelerate.
  11. Jeez that would be an awkward situation. Get the rough stuff going, yet can't go as hard as you'd like, otherwise you just might be on the outer with those 2 coaches, lol.
  12. Agree with you there Rogue. Sure he gets a fair bit of it, but jeez he butchers the ball more times than not. No point getting it if you can't give it off properly. He has a long way to go before i would consider putting him onto the senior list.
  13. No you are not. U might also have to factor in compo picks being used immediately after a clubs first rounder, which could further push our picks back. These compo picks are being valued way too much. These picks might come out at pick 15 & 20. Even in a "superdraft" it would have to be bloody super if we were any chance of selecting some gun kids. Our best bet is to trade them away for some quality experienced players afaic. The chances of us drafting superstars with these picks isn't great - we just might end up with another Bate & Dunn pair. Thank god we have Viney secured. I couldn't care if he cost us pick#1 in the draft (not that we will have it), we need to bring in quality mids, as ours looks rather thin and we all know that the midfield needs to be nothing short of impressive if you are serious about contending for a premiership.
  14. In regards to training loads and how we compare to Adelaide, filth and the Saints, whilst there is a vast gap between the sides and where we need to improve, it really sticks out at how bad Adelaide must really be. After all of their training, and yet a team doing half just wipes the floor with them.
  15. Seeing as how we recruited Clark, who is set to play the position where FItzpatrick would've slotted in, i reckon he is very lucky to have another year on our list. As already highlighted, we need to find a crumber or small forward to really complete our forward line. This would've been Davey, but he has lost some of his pace. Howe Watts Sylvia Petterd? Clark Jurrah We need pace in our forward line.
  16. Well if we lose to the Lions, it's not going to be because of Col. It would take a monumental team f up if it were to occur.
  17. That's what happens when you have a bloke that thinks he's god's gift to the AFL (in Allen) and a fella that is so loopy, he was chucked out of the mental asylum coz he scared the [censored] out of the shrinks there (in Sheedy).
  18. That would be Griffin, y8ter. Peter Griffin. He makes me laugh every time i think of him, he's such a dumb, fat f#@&. .
  19. Boo frikkin Hoo. We have a whole week to recover from the game. With Misson now involved, i wouldn't be surprised to see us play almost unaffected the week after. It's all about rest and recovery, yes. Just don't have training the week after. Do reviews and everything, but surely a week off of training isn't going to hinder us.
  20. Whilst Jack Viney might turn out to be a star, the chances of our CP's which will be around the 15-20 area are not as likely to net us "star" players. I know that next years draft is meant to be good, but getting such quality all the way down to pick 15ish??? If there are any "star" players available, i suspect they will be well and truly snapped up before our CP's come into play.
  21. I know quite a few that were getting very disenchanted with Bailey as head coach, along with his inept goons. With all the positive movements in the off-season, plus the recruitment of Mitch Clark, i see no reason why we won't be able to again create a new membership record. I reckon the club will announce it's new joint-major sponsor in mid November, as there is little action between now and draft day (which we won't have as big a play in this year), plus the current major sponsors will have lapsed by then. Wait until their tenure is over before announcing the new one's. Should the MFC announce another very positive result for a new sponsor, it would create even more positive momentum and could set us up to have a crack at breaking the 40,000 member barrier. Something that would've been unheard of, a couple of years ago. It was only 2 years ago that we announced breaking through the 30,000 member barrier for the first time. We have to break the 40,000 member barrier though. This club needs to continue to grow, and i'm sure that it will. 40,000 members would be huge, and should be seen as the minimum for next year. A real tick of approval to all those involved in the off-field department at the club. The die-hards always sign up, even those who are eternal pessimists. We are the type that are already in too deep. It is up to us members to convince other 'fans' of the club that now is the time to sign up. Hell, poach others if need be. Our "army" will never be as big as the filth's, but we are just as passionate and we show the equal most resilience of any club in the AFL. How can we not be? If still after what will now be 48 years of drought, we continue to break membership records, club sponsorship records, best facilities we've ever had, biggest recruitment since Jeff White, best footy department structure we've ever had, most willing to spend in the footy department that the club has ever seen!!! Halfway through this year, our club was seen as being very structurally weak. A lesser board, the Gardner board and all before it, would have seen it go backwards and fall down, of this i'm sure. Jim's board, Jim's team, whilst having had some set backs, have taken it in their stride, looked at the negatives as a positive as it showed where the club needed to improve and acted to rectify this, ultimately putting us in a stronger position than if it were never to have happened. Make no mistake, under Jimmy's watch, whilst there have been many to be given credit, it is his unparalleled enthusiasm that has made sure that this club has got to where it is now, and where it will be in the future. Over an extended period, our club has never endured no darker time off-field, and yet because of this we are going to be made the strongest we have ever been. It is because of where this club was and where it is now, that places Jim as the equal most important person, if not the most important, that this club has ever seen. Norm Smith and Barassi are legends of the club no doubt. But in times of good. No one has had such an impact when times were really bad, which counts for even more imo, as what Jim has had. This alone places him as the top Demon by some margin over our clubs 153 year existence. Jim is a living legend of this club, and forever will be.
  22. It's not so much how many goals he kicks, but how many goals he creates. The problem with our forward line was, when Watts lead up the ground, there was little to kick to besides Jurrah, who then took over as the #1 player in the forward line. This is not his role, as admirably as he tried to make it. With Clark filling in the space created by the lead up of the CHF, he becomes the #1 target, taking with him the best defender there (or maybe 2) with Jurrah getting the 3rd best (and tearing them a new one). Or if Jurrah has the best defender on him, Mitch should be able to kill with his size and ability if there's an inferior defender being forced to play on him. The opportunity created is the real reward of this coup, and maybe just maybe, with an actual tall body present in the forward line (when Watts isn't there) a small player might actually play a crumbers role (how we need Aussie back fit and firing). Mitch's presence alone will provide more goals and more opportunities to goal. If he kicks 30 with the #1 defender on him (and creates numerous more opportunities for other avenues to goal - great). If he kicks more, then that's even better. I'd much rather having our team sharing more goals, than one player kicking the majority but ultimately fewer goals. At least we now have a realistic chance of goaling if we have to bomb it in long, when other options aren't available.
  23. yep, either the 2012 draft's gonna have to be really strong for us to pick up some good kids with the compo picks, or we need to trade them for some good quality players (ie. Mitch Clark).
