  1. I wouldn't mind trying Cook down back. He played a few games for NB in the TAC cup at CHB, plus we desperately need a few more players with good decision-making and disposal by foot, as we are currently seriously lacking in these departments.
  2. smokescreen, yes and no. Obviously we're trying to inflate his price and put pressure on the Pies salary cap, but at the same time, should the Jurrah situation take a turn for the worse, then i think we will really ramp up our bid and try and bring Cloke in to replace Jurrah should he not be available to play for the Dees any longer (i'd prefer Jurrah to get off and not have cloke, allowing us to make some plays at decent mids).
  3. Bail has been very lucky in the games he has played imo. Many times he has tackled an opposition player and continued to hold onto them and taken them out of the play, Trengove is in the same boat (just less often). If i was umpiring, i would have penalised him much more than he has been (if at all) and as such continues to get away with it.
  4. There is one group that for too long has gotten away from any real criticism over the past year and that is the playing group. Sure the coaching group has to be accountable, but they cannot make players chase and tackle and give a damn. At least half our list is not AFL standard, tough decisions need to be made at the end of the year, although they are really simple to me. I don't care if Neeld loses the players, i want him to return to his uncompromising heart on the sleeve self, because the players have lost me and have lost many members too. Supporters are the constant, players come and go, and hopefully many go at the end of the year. Big names need to go, to be made an example of. Moloney, Sylvia, Garland, Petterd, Davey, Garland, etc some of these names need to go and hopefully the rest get the message.
  5. I agree with this. Part of me says you don't trade players who bleed for the club in Moloney, and one's who have an integral role in the team (Jamar), but realistically, both would have retired when we seriously push for a tilt at a flag. It would be very foolish not to consider the advantages (as well as the disadvantages) of moving players with currency on, who simply will not be there at the end of the day (you could almost throw SYlvia into this category too).
  6. The way i see it (if we finish 3rd last), we will get Viney then a choice of either Toumpas or Stringer (at this stage), plus an early teens pick (good outside mid - maybe O'Rourke but who the hell knows), then we'd be able to nab a good small forward with a second rounder (possibly one of Kennedy or Garlett). Sure it's not as good as say Whitfield, Toumpas/Stringer, Outside mid and Viney, but it's still pretty bloody good!!!
  7. Wojo (however you spell it) looks like he'll be suspended on 2 fronts. The first being the breaking of Viney's jaw/cheekbone, the second for punching Viney in the head (which can be seen on the afl.com.au highlights).
  8. we are seriously advantaged in the 1st and 3rd quarters as we aren't competing against the massive gap in the grandstand.
  9. Given that this draft is meant to be a mid-fielders dream crop, best available will be also "needs" for us.
  10. I knew that the Lions were initially into Heppell, but were spooked by his groin "problems". I thought the Tigers were keen on Polec, but because the Lions took him amid fears of Heppell's injuries, chose Conca. Never knew they were keen on Heppell. We can't be too critical of the Tigers though, after all they landed Martin at pick 3 when we had the first 2 picks. Though we may still come out on top depending on us drafting good replacements for the HWMNBN compensation.
  11. Watts had a poor game. Morton is the constant whipping boy, who i think has played the past 2 games reasonably well (he needs to string quite a few more together though) Davey's situation frustrates me. It was DB who tried to develop Davey into a midfielder. He has definitely gotten bigger in muscle size since 2004 and has lost a lot of pace, so the role he is now playing is hindered by his loss of pace. He re-invented the FP position, and is now suffering from it. He gets to the right spots but no longer has explosive pace (Jones seemed quicker as a pack crumber). What really irritated me was some of our players continually took their eyes off the ball before they had possession and subsequently let the ball slip (Grimes), and many times whilst our tackling was very good, some (Bail) held on way too long. I'm also a little worried about Trengove, given he has pretty much done bugger all in his games this season.
  12. every time he touched the ball in the first half he basically turned it over. Though many had the same problem, i cringed a lot, which means he got the ball a lot (so he has no trouble finding the thing).
  13. I'd love to see how you'd go running, having suffered a bad cork during the game.
  14. Jack Martin from WA is the likely #1 at the moment. Comes from a similar area to O'Meara.
  15. I wouldn't mind moulding him into a key backman (he played CHB for NB a few times). His kicking is meant to be very good and lord knows we could use a few of those in our backline.
  16. The MRP is an absolute joke. How Thomas can be given weeks is an indictment on the game. It also highlights the MRP's unbelievable inconsistency. If injury plays a part in sanctions and if Thomas has a case to answer then why didn't Butcher and Josh Kennedy's incidents get weeks from the MRP? 'Amateurish' flatters the numbskulls that make up this joke of a review panel.
  17. If one of these indicators is butchering the ball by foot, then i'd say we excelled in that aspect last Sunday.
  18. Have no problem with this whatsoever. But i don't agree with Houli that it will increase Muslim attendances. Just like having a church or a synagogue, neither of those would increase attendances for games (one would have thought).
  19. when the dogs were up and about, they were one of the better kicking teams in the league. Sure they have dropped off a bit since then, but they still have much of the same cattle that will play on SUnday. They will no doubt find it when they play us, given we like to provide our opposition with at least 5 metres space. Why is it so hard for us to man up? We continually give the opposition 1 to 2 metres head start and they murder us every time. Dogs in a canter.
  20. It pains me to say it, becuase he is by far and away my favourite player and also happenes to be the most talented player on our list. But unless Sylvia has an absolute stellar year, i'd almost certainly consider trading him at the end of the year. We simply haven't seen him at his best on a regular basis, however he would command some great currency on the trade market. We also desperately need more players of his experience and age on our list, let alone his talent. But Col will be 27 come November. If we are ever to have a serious tilt at challenging, his best will be well and truly past him. Do we need him? Hell yeah, but trading him and bringing in a younger player (whether through draft or trade) would help improve our chances of future success.
  21. f/s selections happen before the trade period. They'd have to bid for Viney before knowing if they were to get their hands on the #2 pick in the draft.
  22. Let me just start out by saying that i will always love the Melbourne Football Club. The players on the other hand have completely lost me. Not because of today alone, but today was the straw that broke the camel's back afaic. It is now so abundantly apparent that we need to go through another complete re-build. And i might only be 24, but i've just about had enough. I'm of the belief that if you're gonna do something worthwhile, you have to do it right. The point has come where all and sundry at the club need to get behind Neeld 100%, purely because what he brings to the club is an attitude that the club itself has lacked for a very long time. Neeld is going to rock the boat big time, many will not be able to handle that, from players to staff, supporters and the rest in between. Of course, after 186 something had to be done. Yes, the buck stops with the coach, but the players came away from that day far too easily. We have way too many passengers on board, who are either lazy, arrogant or simply not good enough. Only the players can control the results out on the field, as such, they are the one's who must be held accountable. I couldn't care if the list was cut back to 20 players come years end (of course it will never happen), so long as we got all of the rotten crap out. We can no longer afford to wean it out slowly, it must all be gotten rid of pretty much in one swoop, otherwise the disgusting culture will continue to fester. All players are fair game come years end. I look at our list and honestly, i can only see 6 players who i would say are must keeps - even then i think i'm being generous. That is just about as damning as it could get. We have been heavily criticised for getting rid of too many older players. Many we got rid of have proven, imo, to be good calls. The problem with the remaining senior players, is that they are the major culprits of the disgusting culture that this club cannot get rid of.
  23. The filth lost their eliteness when they went out and got Rodney Eade.
  24. Have no idea when contracts expire with off-field staff, but don't player's contracts expire at the end of October? If that's the case with staff, that would be pretty convenient coming into the draft.
