  1. He said "winning" a lot. Someone pointed out during Neeld's tenure that he never mentioned winning at all.
  2. Is it unethical for a mod to call a poster a self-indulgent knob, close the thread and give him no right of reply? Oops.
  3. Just gotta keep those columns filled, old dee, doesn't matter what's in 'em. You know that old (new) journalism adage: quantity over quality.
  4. Umm, okay. No offence taken, I think my argument makes way more sense though. Soccer has some traction, but I don't imagine it's any worse than in Victoria. Mostly I think it's because it's a really easy game for kids to participate in and mums like it from a safety pespective. When I drop my kids off though, all the kids at the school are kicking oval balls, not round ones.
  5. That's the downside risk of course, but it's only looking at one half of the picture. The downside risk between a GWS side and a Tasmanian side is the same: no growth. What if the GWS side does lead to growth in Sydney, though (which is the AFL's view)? The game will have grown and the AFL will have tapped in to a new demographic it didn't have access to before. There's nobody to tap in to Tasmania, we're already a captive market down here,
  6. The issue here is that everyone here (in Tasmania) already barracks for a side. Starting an expansion side here would not have made any sense; the teams that play here now fill the stands, and memberships would simply come at the expense of other clubs. A relocation would be even worse; chances of me ever buying a membership of a rebadged Footscray? A Tassie side is a nice idea from a romantic perspective, but makes no business sense whatsoever, so it will never happen.
  7. I hate Essendon as much as the next guy, but if they get pinged it will be an absolute disaster for the AFL. It will have an effect that will be felt across the whole sport.
  8. I can't see the link between contesting a MRP ruling and our request for special funding. Taking the case to the tribunal is just a normal operational activity; of course we can still do that.
  9. Wasn't Hayes also a member of the Gardner board? It will be amazing if she survives this round as well.
  10. Exactly. I've said this before, but I often wonder if the people who write this garbage stop and wonder where it all went wrong, or if they're genuinely too stupid to realise that they have become a completely worthless bottom feeder on society.
  11. Agree. Nothing is going to crystalise until October due to the contracted position of some of the candidates. Even if that weren't the case, Craig deserves to see the season out and the players could do with some stability. I feel like a kid contemplating Christmas in March; I want it now dammit!! In the mean time I'm looking forward to seeing what Craig is able to do with this team, if anything, in the short time he's got.
  12. I shouldn't be amazed a your complete inability to comprehend what people say to you, and yet I constantly am.
  13. ...that said, I doubt he would have said anything unless it was carefully planned and they were certain it would not damage their position. This is all very weird to be honest.
  14. Gutted. Was my favourite player outside the MFC.
  15. Agreed, and that sounds like what is happening here.
  16. I've always been doubtful that Harrington is responsible for decisions like that. I can't see how anyone other than the coach can be responsible for the "who" side of the list. I though Harrington would be more about the "how" side. To that end, I don't know what this actually means. From the quotes from Jackson ("reflective of costs") it sounds as if it will be replaced with a less senior role; List Analyst or somethingnlike that.
  17. Would need to see Clark and Dawes on the park together a lot more than zero times before even thinking about this idea.
  18. Wasn't Melbourne listed though of course.
  19. I find it hard to argue with too, because it is so illogical that I can't get my head around how to reason through it.
  20. Except for a valuable spot on the list for 3 years, which is far more than nothing. In hindsight we would have been better off just delisting Gys and keeping the picks.
  21. I agree Jack; claiming that the Freo fans told us relies on the flawed premise that the fans have any idea what they're on about. I think we've demonstrated pretty comprehensively in the last 5 years or so that as a collective, we don't.
  22. How does it tie in with the rest of the salaries, future salaries and so on? You can't really work out what is reasonable to pay one player when you don't know what the rest of the players are getting.
  23. I can't find the words to adequately portray my relief and gratitude that he wears an MFC jumper at the moment.
  24. What a pair Pedersen and Dunn make. Hoooooooly cow. Don't care who replaces them.
  25. No, the board made a shocking call and hired him.
