  1. it was always a risk to have the 2nd SA team being Port Adelaide... while there was a ready made supporter base there, it would always alienate other football followers in SA.... could you imagine, if the AFL originated out of SANFL, and in Victoria everyone followed a 'Melbourne' team, how many football followers of the VFL would then embrace Collingwood being the 2nd side? not many I would think...
  2. 1. T. Scully 2. J. Trengove 11. A. Black (Butcher if available, but unlikely) 18. B. Griffiths 34. not sure, don't know enough about the draftees 50. pass PSD 1: best player available, perhaps Thorp? Too hard to call this far out.
  3. The system is finished, with Greater Western Sydney coming into the competition... Any NSW scholarship players, if not selected by their club, will play with the West Sydney team in the TAC cup next season, and all players in the area, will be zoned to West Sydney...
  4. why is forward loading contracts less than ideal? it's a great situation for the club to be in, as it allows the club some flexibility in it's payments structure, when chasing a player such as luke ball...
  5. Could still be more... We could opt to delist a player after the national draft, if we want another selection in the PSD. So if there is a player we fancy at pick 34, we can still take them, then delist another player before the pre-season draft. At least I think we can do that.
  6. Not exactly... In Perth for example, free to air games will be bumped for Freo or West Coast games, if those games are allocated to Foxtel and are on around the same time... But it doesn't work the other way around, so the FTA game that is bumped, won't be on any TV at all except for a delayed replay on Foxtel later that night at some stage... I'm moving to Perth next year, and looking at the fixture, there will be only 2 games I won't be able to see over in WA. When we play Carlton and Sydney, both at the G I believe... Could've been a lot worse...
  7. Great draw, would like more saturday games, but it's definitely an improvement. We're not going to get more Saturday games than this until we start getting more games on Friday nights, which hopefully will come in time as we improve. We should win 6 games bare minimum with that draw. What makes me even happier is the Bomber's terrible draw, big task for them to make the 8 next season... Also good to have a home game against those Essendon grubs. I wonder if they'll wear their clash jumper which clashes with our strip even more?
  8. You might even find that the decision won't be made till draft day... BP would most likely have a list of players who he rates as better than Cheney / Bartram / T Mac... if one of them slips through to 34, we pick them up... if they don't, then we pass and keep the above players on our list...
  9. This is Juice's probelm. I've seen him slot set shots at Casey from 50 metres out on the boundary, then miss from 20m directly in front... He's not the first player to have these issues at AFL level, Richo is a prime example of a player who has struggled with his set shots at goal, Cam Mooney, doesn't mean these guys can't kick, they just need to get their head right...
  10. If you'd actually watched him play a game this season, you wouldn't be making comments like that. You can say many things about Newton, but his defensive pressure is no longer a deficiency in his game. In fact, it is now one of his strengths... I really think he's a confidence player, and if he can find some confidence with his goal kicking, then I think he'll prove to be a good target next to Jurrah and Watts...
  11. B: Frawley Warnock Bennell HB: Rivers Garland Grimes C: Bruce Sylvia Green HF: Davey Bate Morton F: Jurrah Newton Wonaeamirri R: Jamar Moloney McDonald I: Meesen, Jones, Scully, Trengove E: Martin, Jetta, Petterd, Dunn, Miller, Watts I'm a Newton fan, so that's why I have him in, but realistically, Miller or Martin would come into the 22 for him round one you would think. I'm also a Dunn fan, but couldn't squeeze him into the side, I really hope he forces the hands of the selectors and earns a spot. Same goes for Martin.
  12. with Brisbane now keen on Ball, that would skuttle any hopes of him getting to Collingwood you would think... If he's not prepared to move interstate, his only options are St. Kilda or Melbourne... If he is prepared to move interstate, then you'd imagine Brisbane would be reasonably appealing, they're obviously going to have a crack at the title in the next couple of years...
  13. Companies can have financial years run however they like... Most companies have a financial year finishing June 30, but many have December 31 year ends, and as previously mentioned, Football clubs have an October 31 year end... Take a look at our financial report when you receive it... The club would still have to report GST quarterly, with a year end summary at June 30, but as far as their own financials go, it's October 31...
  14. Good summary of our situation there, only omission is we would need to cull more if we were to elevate any rookie selections... Paul Johnson could perhaps be considered too, if we choose to elevate Spencer, however I doubt that happening... From those 4, I think it will be Bartram and Cheney to go... Retain Valenti as a 3rd year rookie if he agrees.
  15. I don't think that's exactly right... That's what takes place under the current system, except if the rookie you've cut isn't picked up in the National draft, you can pre-select them before the rookie draft... This is when you re-rookie a player... I think all the three year rule entails is that the player must be given the option of entering the national draft... If they want to remain at their current club, and are happy to stay on the rookie list, then they can, but they must also be given this other option... This in contrast to rookies going from their first to second year, I think if the club wants to have them for a second year, they're contracted to remain with that club, and can't enter the draft... I could be wrong though..
  16. He asked when he signed the contract... Not when it expired... I for one don't believe he's contracted, haven't seen anyone provide any evidence that he is...
  17. Why is everyone so keen to accept a fact that hasn't been substantiated everywhere? I can confirm that he signed a new contract at the end of 2004... Along with Jared Rivers and the late Troy Broadbridge... Rivers got 3 years, however the article doesn't state how long Daniel Bell or Broadbridge got... Given Bell had only played 3 games to this point, I find it hard to believe he signed a 3 year contract, to take him through to 2007... Also we know that Nick Smith had shown just about as much as Bell at the same time, and he only received a 2 year deal, as he was delisted at the end of 2006... http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P1-99909328.html As for our delistings, I think that Bell (if he's out of contract), Bartram, Cheney are all definitely in the gun, with PJ probably struggling as well... Buckley will be close, however I think he'll be retained... I'd like to see Valenti promoted, however I'm not sure if there's room for him...
  18. everyone is saying that Bell is contracted, but I'm yet to see anyone actually able to confirm this... He was drafted in 2002... Standard two year contract for 2003 and 2004. If he continued to get 2 year contracts each time he re-signed, his next one would've been 2005 - 2006, 2007 - 2008, 2009 - 2010, which means he would've been re-signed last year if this were the case, and I don't believe that happened... So we can rule this scenario out... If he received one three year contract during his time, then he would be coming out of contract at the end of this year, and if he received two three-year deals, then he would be out of contract at the end of next season... There's also the possibility that he received a contract extension from two years to three... Either way, unless Daniel Bell effectively received 2 three year deals, he is out of contract come October 31... I wouldn't have thought the club would've given him two three year deals...
  19. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/all-...f-1225783565277 well the Hun have included us this time in their daily trade wrap... According to them Jamar isn't going anywhere, and that Daniel Bell is on the table... I wonder what Carlton would give up for him... Either a really low draft pick we won't use, which will save us delisting him, or a fringe player from their list... Brad Fisher perhaps?
  20. Don't rate him all that highly to be honest... Think he could be delisted... Skills are average, he's not accountable as a defender, he's not overly quick... Just because he's young, doesn't mean he should automatically be kept, and I think he'll be one to make way on our list...
  21. Correct, we need to delist or trade 2 more players to use all those draft picks... If we want to promote Valenti or Spencer, we would have to delist more players, however the rules maybe altered where we could keep rookies for 3 years, which would be ideal, to then upgrade Valenti/Spencer as one of our 3 players next year, in the compromised draft... I think that because Brock has left, we will upgrade Valenti to the senior list...
  22. he is injury prone, but he's definitely worth a shot... if he can get out on the park, he would be one of the better full forwards in the comp... worth a 4th rounder that we wouldn't use...
  23. Is it just my eyes, or have you taken the liberty to make the red deeper and the navy darker on the jumpers there? As suggested by Cameron Schwab during the season this year? Looks fantastic...
