  1. i was another one who picked a good year to be OS... i was in california from late september to late june... my first game back in melbourne was last friday against Essendon... these are your options: Radio: www.afl.com.au will provide all available radio streams through it's gameday live feature... all online streaming from broadcasting radio stations will be blocked during the game, so afl.com.au is your only alternative there. Video: there are a number of options. the first is subscribing as an international subscriber to www.afl.com.au video streaming service. this will give you all games available to stream 12 hours after the bounce of the ball, along with all other video on the afl website. they charge $60 for a 12 month subscription. the problem i've read with this is that this service is primarily designed for bigpond customers in australia, who get this service for free. the international stream can be of quite a poor quality, which pauses alot. i never bought this as i didn't want to pay for a substandard service. there are also some television networks which broadcast some afl games in north america. setanta sports is the main one which this season is broadcasting 3 games live a week. there are lots of details of north american afl coverage at www.afana.com the other alternative is to download the games via torrent. sites like mininova.org or demonoid.com (if you can get an invite) usually have the games available to download 24-36 hours after the game has finished. i couldn't really do any of these because i was living at a university, so i couldn't subscribe to the TV service, couldn't download torrents because they blocked them on the internet they provided, and i didn't want to pay for what i read was a crappy Telstra subscription service. i listened to the odd game, but that was about it... but i'm sure you'll find which option works best for you...
  2. i think this is how we will look this week... with Miller, Fergie and Pickett to be named the emergencies... Backs: D.Ward, N.Carroll, P.Wheatley Half backs: N.Brown, J.Frawley, C.Bizzell Centreline: C.Bruce, J.McDonald, A.Davey Half forwards: S.Godfrey, R.Robertson, M.Bate Forwards: C.Sylvia, M.Newton, R.Petterd Followers: J.White, B.McLean, N.Jones I/C: P.Johnson, C.Johnson, L.Dunn, S.Buckley, B.Miller, R.Ferguson, B.Pickett Out: D.Bell (inj), B.Green (inj), D.Neitz (inj), T.Johnstone (inj), In: J.Frawley, L.Dunn, C.Johnson, S.Buckley, R.Ferguson, B.Pickett, B.Miller this is probably the hardest week to predict selection as it's our first week with Bomber Riley at the helm... however i think our side will look like this... the one i've been unsure about is miller... there is room to bring him in, but do we want him to disrupt our forward setup? if he comes in i would only play him back, hence he's an emergency...
  3. ratten or mckenna provide some good value i think... maybe worth having a punt on both of them... if someone bets on connolly that is the worst investment they've ever made...
  4. yeah, he made a mistake which resulted in a goal at the end of the game, but i thought he was one of our best last night... gave us plenty of run, always giving us an option from half back through to the middle... plenty of players made some bad mistakes last night, the timing of doggies was just unfortunate...
  5. anyone else see the irony in the fact that godders will play his 100th game the week where it is likely to be overshadowed by the departure of our coach? i suppose it is fitting
  6. well it will be my first game for the year as I've been OS, although i don't have any lofty expecations it will be good just to see the boys play...
  7. i think this is a positive thing, but we should keep him at sandy so he can learn to kick goals... he doesn't do it at AFL level, if he can learn to do it for sandy, then hopefully he can do it at AFL level too...
  8. set on snaring him is a bit of an exaageration... any club would be willing to pay him a packet and give up a first round draft choice for him... good to know we're looking at him though...
  9. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/Default.aspx...mp;newsId=44271 i think it is a great essay which really does show how great the gap is... thoughts?
  10. MELBOURNE B: Ward, Carroll, Petterd HB: Frawley, Holland, Bell C: Johnstone, McDonald, Davey HF: Green, Robertson, Bruce F: Yze, Neitz, Bate FOLL: White, Godfrey, Jones I/C from: P.Johnson, Dunn, Bizzell, Miller, McLean, Brown, C.Johnson IN: Frawley, McLean, Holland, Bizzell, C.Johnson, Robertson OUT: Ferguson (thumb), Sylvia (hamstring), Whelan NEW:James Frawley, Selection No.12 in 2006 National Draft from North Ballarat so miller may not play, has been named on the extended interchange bench... would think brock will miss out again as he's been named on the bench... frawley a certain starter on the half back flank, along with holland at CHB... i will think the bench will read P. Johnson, Dunn, Brown, Miller. brown to miss if mclean plays
  11. while it is good the club are doing this, i'd personally rather the money be spent somewhere else, like the football department... unless the replacement stickers were free from the supplier of course...
  12. well it's true... the reason we worked on that game plan was for use on the longer, more narrow grounds like subiaco and AAMI
  13. am i correct in saying that as long as it isn't finals, or we are not playing against a stand alone team we could have 22 demons playing if we wanted?
  14. lol... this is the worst post i've ever read...
  15. if this was the case then we would've had a kick in with the scores tied... a draw perhaps? but as already said, who really cares..?
  16. a complete no as coach... but in a director of football type role i'd take him in a second... similar job to people like david parkin at hawthorn... would be invaluable to the club... however i think getting a new coach is a must... look at the most recent senior coaches to make their debut... Chris Connolly Dean Laidley Alastair Clarkson Ross Lyon Neil Craig Paul Roos John Worsfold out of that list only the first 2 I would consider not to be successful thus far, with lyon too early to call... but worsfold, roos, craig and clarkson have all done terriffic jobs... and i believe the next debut coach will also do a good job... will be quite annoyed if we pick up a recycled coach, as they've clearly failed... the only way i would want a current coach is if we poached someone like carlton did with pagan (although i would expect a better outcome)...
  17. think he is a complete tool, but that doesn't change the fact he's a great player, and would be a loss to the game...
  18. we shouldn't just write the season off now and start playing some kids... we were 0-3 last season, but then turned our season around... i know it doesn't look likely, but we can do it again, but if we just bring in a bunch of kids who aren't ready, then we're not giving ourselves a chance of salvaging our season... we've got freo next week who've had a start almost as bad as ours... we're playing them at the G and still a good chance to win this one... we get one under our belt and get some confidence and we could be away... if we're half way through the season and we're 2-9 then we can play the kids, but in round 3? we still need to give ourselves the best chance of winning...
  19. this is really hard to listen to here in california... what is wrong with us?
  20. yeah, i know, i was just going by the time they did the interview the previous day... was good to hear that clint bizzell has had a great pre season...
  21. interview with neita tonight on the run home, believe it will be on just after 6 o'clock...
  22. Membership Tally as @ the 30th of January: 14,863 I just received an email from the Club saying my membership has been processed and I'm the 13,598th person to sign up... My mum signed me back up just before Christmas, as I'm overseas studying at the moment. So hopefully this number is bigger, as I signed up a month ago... Anyone heard any bigger numbers?
