  1. Bizzell at Centre Half Back??? I believe he was still running around in the blue and white hoops at that stage... Matty Collins, Ingerson and Nicholson were our key defenders on Grand Final day... Robbo at Centre Half Forward? Forgetting a man by the name of David Schwartz? Below are all the players taken after Colin Sylvia in that draft. Apart from Sam Fisher and Brent Stanton, is there anyone you'd consider taking ahead of Sylvia? I can't find anyone... shows that it was a good recruiting decision at the time... Which is what this is about... Farren Ray Brock McLean Kepler Bradley Kane Tenace Raphael Clarke David Trotter Ryley Dunn Beau Waters Ryan Murphy Brent Stanton Fergus Watts Troy Chaplin Josh Willoughby Billy Morrison Llane Spaanderman David Mundy Sam Butler Alex Gilmour Cameron Thurley Matthew Moody Chad Jones Harry Miller Daniel McConnell Adam Campbell Jay Nash Tim Schmidt Brad Symes Joshua Krueger Brayden Shaw Jed Adcock Luke Peel Brent Hall Chris A. Johnson Thomas Roach Mark Blake Robert Foster-Knight Eddie Sansbury Zac Dawson Matthew Spencer Brett Peake Ricky Dyson Amon Buchanan Michael Pettigrew Andrew Eriksen Heath Shaw Tom Logan Izaac Thomson Matthew Ball Daniel Jackson Sam Fisher Brent LeCras Ricky Mott Ben Hudson Matthew Davis Julian Rowe Michael Rischitelli Glen Bowyer Shane Morrison Craig Callaghan Jordan Bannister Brent Hartigan Adrian Deluca Shane Tuck Stephen Kenna Andrew Raines Simon Fletcher Kyle Archibald
  2. it's hard to make a call this early... In a couple of years will be regretting not taking Tom Swift instead of Strauss? He could very well become a star of the competition, and was ours there for the taking at 19. These things are all great, but it is too early to call on BP's success rate thus far... One mistake he hasn't made that Craig Cameron did was draft for needs, as he's proven this draft... We could've gone tall at 11, but we took the best available player... One selection I think I can give a tick to already is Neville Jetta in the 50's. Looks like he'll be a handy player, and a good pickup with a 4th round draft pick... Again, time will tell though...
  3. Back on topic slightly, I agree with the original post... It was noted that this draft wasn't that strong for talls... Talia, from the one youtube video I've seen of him, reminded me of Lynden Dunn to be honest... Didn't seem like he'd be a genuine KPP tall... A little taller than Dunn, yes... But he seemed to play in a very similar style... I actually rate Lynden, and he's a solid player from a very poor draft, perhaps Talia could turn out to be the same... We will wait and see...
  4. surprising to take another ruckman... his profile says he can play both ends of the ground... perhaps looking at him as a key forward?
  5. Black at 18 anyone? Second half of that first round was interesting...
  6. maybe Temel could be the support act, rag dolling 14 year olds and kicking them from everywhere...
  7. you don't draft a player based on his impact next season, you draft him based on his impact over the next 10 seasons... Grimes had injury problems, which is why we got him at 14... He had no impact in his first year, but I've got no doubt he was a bargain at that selection... How many players who have had injuries as an underaged player have gone on to prove to be bargains at their selection. Judd, Selwood, Grimes... We missed the boat last year with Tom Swift... Lets hope Strauss becomes just as good a player..
  8. McDonald is a little different where he probably doesn't need to prove himself on the training track. He played most of the season for Brisbane last year. Everyone knows what they're going to get with him, and he probably doesn't want to align himself to one club, unless of course we say we're taking him, then you'd think he'd start training. Thorp is a different kettle of fish, hardly played AFL footy, hasn't proven anything yet, so he's trying to prove himself on the training track.
  9. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...65/default.aspx officially confirmed, he's on the permission to train list... we've seen it before, players who struggle to get a game at an extremely strong club, go somewhere else and make a good career for themselves... both Thorp and Tenace could turn out to be the same...
  10. all this means is that we haven't committed to taking him in the PSD at this stage I would think...
  11. No, that's correct. It would be reliant on him being traded, he couldn't enter the draft for another season, as he would be contracted. The club wouldn't have to trade him unless they chose to, so if they chose to spite him for sitting out, they could keep him out of football for another year. However, you would suggest they would trade him and get something for him.
  12. There are different rules for players who have previously been on an AFL list compared to those who haven't. That being they can nominate a salary / contract terms. Ball can do this, but once he's nominated these, he's bound to go where ever he is drafted. There's a quote straight from the rule book. He would have to enter into a contract of service with Melbourne for at least one season, be traded or delisted by Melbourne in order to be placed on the primary list of another club, which would entail entering the pre-season draft. My friend, you're out of your depth.
  13. Has Thorp nominated for the National Draft? It'd suit us better if he only nominated for the pre-season draft...
  14. Get a clue... You're not doing the stereotype of your clubs supporters any favours with the dribble you post here... That is completely inaccurate... Could Butcher if he gets picked by Port Adelaide, say I don't want to go interstate and I'm going to reject your club and go into the Pre-Season draft, where I can be selected by Melbourne and stay in Victoria? Of course he can't... By signing on for the draft, he's agreeing to go wherever he's drafted for 2 seasons... He can't then just refuse and walk into the PSD... His only option would be not to play footy, and even then to spite him, Melbourne could not trade him at the end of next season, keep him on the list for 2 seasons until his contract is up, at which time it would almost be curtains for him having spent 2 years out of footy...
  15. does anyone know if Thorp has nominated for the National Draft? or is he waiting for the PSD? it would suit us if he waited for the PSD wouldn't it, especially if we're interested in Ball...
  16. I don't think we'd bring in 2 25 yo players in Ball and McDonald... It'll be one or the other i would think...
  17. i agree with the title heading, lets get Usain Bolt as an international rookie... imagine him flying down the wing, or on the lead...
  18. Why don't we do that with Trengove? Then take Butcher at pick 2 along with Scully in the ND, and we're set... The catch is, to enter the pre-season draft without entering the national draft, you must have previously been on an AFL list... Non AFL listed players can still be drafted in the pre-season draft, but they must have gone through the national draft first...
  19. personally I don't like this... I think Newton hasn't been given the opportunities he's deserved... Daniel Bell should count himself extremely lucky to still be on the senior list...
  20. they're going to have so many kids, they would be silly to ignore a player of thorp's quality in the rookie draft... anyhow, if we pass on him in the PSD, he's a massive chance to be snapped up in the psd by another club... if Ball doesn't enter the PSD, who do you suggest we use our selection on? Going over some archives on Bigfooty re: Thorp, there's no doubt the guy has talent, but for mine it seemed that Hawthorn didn't let him settle in any position... Given that they had Buddy and Roughead dominating, they were trying to turn him into a backman, and it would seem he doesn't have the versatility to play down back (given his alleged personality type, that's not surprising, would Wayne Carey ever been a great backman?)... If he can stay injury free, and we continue too give him opportunities as a forward, then it could be an absolute steal, and definitely worth the risk... we're not going to get another LJ in the PSD, not very often that happens, so at this stage I think Thorp looks like the best fit for us...
  21. The thing is that the Gold Coast have the first 5 picks in the rookie draft, so I would imagine they'd jump at the chance... Lets take him @ 34, or pick 1 in the PSD...
  22. Pickers his manager mentioned it this morning on SEN.
  23. Liam Pickering, Thorp's manager, has just confirmed on SEN that Thorp will start training with us on Monday... Looks like we're definitely having a look, great opportunity for us to have a closer look at him, and decide if he'll fit in at the club.
  24. I think him not speaking to us isn't that big of an issue... I don't think we were ever going to pick him in the ND... If he was going to come to us, it would be via the PSD, which he has plenty of time to nominate for... National draft nominations are due next week I believe, if he doesn't nominate, he'll end up either with us or the Saints. The fact that he's overseas again, suggests to me that he's not going to nominate for the National Draft, unless of course he's already made that decision and his manager is yet to submit the paperwork.
