GC and West Sydney are stategic ideals for the AFL. Is as much about future positioning as it is about relevance today. Those wanting teams in other locales...well.. the Melbourne scene is far from over of a rationalisation.
-
foxsports will have updates on scores...just how timely...cant say . Not the same as tracker I appreciate
-
Keep in mind this is someone who has his eye on the job.. he's all but put his hand up for it. Yet with these "lapses' its kind of one step forward.......two steps back. Would it be fair to say most 22 y-olds arent aspiring to lead an AFL team ? I hope he works through it all and is the best he can be...whatever the result

Hiding with Waldo I suspect !!

08 hasnt even started. Neitz is capt for this one. I for one will sit back and watch what occurs and who does what. If Brock wants to knuckle down and play footy to his ability and fitness...thats great too. A lot can happen in a footy season Captaincy is the last on my list of MFC concerns or interests for the moment.
-
This is very simple despite how much so many would make it convoluted. Bailey has stripped it down to the essential . You want to be captian son....show me you can act like one !! Its as simple as that. Show me.. Dont talk the talk.. do the walk. Do it this week ..and next...and the ones after.. maybe at end of year ..next season we wil revisit this. Brock would appear the heir apparent.. bu the still has to PROVE he is. Its up to him....continue the poor descisions...then no way Jose !! He has this year.. but then so does anyone else with Captaincy aspirations

Such a broad sweeping statement..So NO Chinese have any interest ?? there is a new generation coming through.. they have differing interests and aspirations to many of their older forefathers. It's been my experience of many international students here that quite a number are quite curious and happy to try out some of teh "strange' ways of their new , if temporary homes. Its not as if this intitaive is the only thing the club is doing... what makes you think the club isnt trying to get 'lost' members?
-
Demonscoast...possibly another way of looking at those exclusions is that we sort of know what they can do. Heres a chances for some newbies to step up and display their wares. damn shame its in bloody Geelong.. ah well.. crank the telly...
-
no16 I believe they might , but only really basing that upon the comments by the club. Whether they count to the AFL sanctioned numbers ..might have to wait. either way it does brign them on board and thats always the first step. This is only observation but th eAFLseem to be reaching ot to th eworld now; they have possiblky taken a different tact to memberships as well. We wont be the only club doing this. A lot of this is however first in best dressed. I empathise with ya Mousey, therre surely is a case to differentiate betwen country and interstate members. maybe drop th eclub an email...see where they are heading on this. This again touches upon the area many of us thougt furtive ground for building a following.. recruiting those people whod love to climb on board officially but arent in any really position to get to games.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...2-19742,00.html "The Demons, headed by departing chief executive Steve Harris, last night announced the AFL's first international student membership............." well I wont particularly claim this as mine....as Im sure I wasnt the only one to suggest something along these lines.. seems the MFC do read emails after all """""""http://demonland.ugbox.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2311&hl=memberships Jul 10 2006, 06:34 PM Post #16 ................................ ........................... the clever avenue has to be outside of this state.. as obviously all the the myriad of efforts to garner more from within...only just hold water...so if not within...then from without.... this leaves interste..and international.. . again I previously braoched this with the form of special memberships for OS followers.. they probably will never goto a game ona week in week out basis ...even year in year out etc... but lets get teh BRAND working..the Chinese exposure can help........................ ................................ as above teh MCC/MFC conundrum is just that... a problem without any ready answer.. almosy unsolvable.. so look elsewhere """""" """"""http://demonland.ugbox.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=1530&hl=china May 20 2006, 03:08 AM Post #9 a recent report names china ( and india ..go figure ) as the most increased sources of tourism.. I simply put it here to qualify some of what I ( and others ) were on about for quite some time.. that is to think outside the box. That and quite frankly to shove it up a few who had no more to add that to lampoon it and suggest some of us had no idea. Seems it wasnt so dumb after all !! Plaudits to the MFC..and indeed to outgoing Harris for a bit of adventurous thinking....or at least reading of forums and emails. Handled well this could be just the thin edge of the wedge of many many possibilities. GO DEES !!

I challenged that we were IN a crisis.. and I dont see that we are. What ever happened yesterday is all but irrelevent to today. Should we come totally unstuck this year I might revisit our dillemma. Its a process.. ,that and a standpoint. Mine is we arent in either turmoil or a crisis ,we are simply working through a situation. Doesnt matter today whether things might have been done six months ago..they werent..can you change it?? No.. so whats the point. Only thing to take from that is learn by your errors. Im hardly easily impressed as you would have me. I as it happens am not au fait with the minutee of daily dealings of the MFC...For all I know this IS the best outcome of what were inclement circumstances.; done with a minimum of disturbance and acrimony. Time will tell I suppose.. GO DEES
-
at what point Rhino...do you actually move from yesterday...to today?? Im not blithley..blindly or otherwise closing my eyes.. quite the opposite..Im opening them to see what is being done. Things are being addressed not swept under a rug for a rainy day surprise. FFS what else do you want to happen.. only so muchg is accomplishable in a day..a week , a month. They ( MFc ) are working within their means to control and expand their means.Seems quite professional and deliberate. Its a work in progress.. not the end of the earth. This is only the beginnig of the season....lol.. you might not last the distance RR ..

Steven Icke a possible Melbournefc CEO replacement
beelzebub replied to Spin-it-to-Goodwin-it's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's got to be a fantastic piece of potential irony should we nab Icke !!..wonder how carlton would take to the 'game' played agaisnt them !! lol. Could be the 'draft' of the year !! hehehe Others to consider of course -
okay....... we had...empahasis on HAD high turnover under Harris.. he's going.. so ...I see that as a positive. what more do I realy need to know as a supporter than there is a process to get a new CEO.. The process to get a new coach went quite swimmingly. It adressed our needs, set an agenda and a schedule for a proces..all was done as per advertised. That too seems a positive. Thye are enacting a similar procedure for the CEO ..I dont really understand the concern. We are not UN Financial.. to be so would be to trade insolvent and thats illegal. what we are as you rightly suggest is a club with limited means lookign to change things.I dont sense any panic inthsi, just a good solid understanding by the club that it needs to change. That to I see as a positive.. i.e taking owneship of the problem and developing a path through it. Rhino.. less of the pessimism mate..its quite frrankly repittious and boring. No one is suggesting we're on easy street., but thats a far cry from crisis and turmoil. A lot of circumstances surrounding the club can be put in the "then ' basket and they are working through the NOW. There is much to do for the MFC as a business, no one is foolish enough to suggest otherwise. utilising an agency or bringing in outside eperts is to do just that..get peopel who are better situated and experienced than yo to bring those skills and abilities to bear when making what is arguably the most important appointment for many a year. May I suggest to not do so would be amatuerish and a waste of all 100% of the salary. you rally answer your own question.. MFC IS a business so why wouldnt it use a standard industry tool? There is a vast difference between saying there are NO problems as compared to addresing them. It wont be easy...no one says it will be.
-
ahh..but which one ??
-
Those who would have us in either Crisis or Turmoil might want to consider what either means.. not the sensationalist tag often afforded them but what it means in actuality and as would be an appropriate application for the decriptions to the MFC. We are in neither. We may not be in the best of positions as compared some other teams, but that in itself doesnt constitute the dire black hole that some would paint us in. Could it be better? It can always be better. we are getting better, in small steps. If someone's a less than ideal fit, then they go. The club will not fall apart as some might suggest if there is no official CEO for a few months. There are others more than capable of filling in, life goes on, no big deal. One aspect I am becoming increasingly impressed with about MFC is that it doesnt run around like headless chooks any more. Calmly and productively it strives to resolve its vacancies. (These vacancies often a cause of poor fit or lack of success ) It doesnt grasp at the first bus screeching past but takes a moment to reflect and decide where it actually wants to go, and how. Then in a purposeful manner seeks to fill the post with the best available fit. Hardly indications of crisis. It does so with resolute steadfastness and consensus, hardly a sign of turmoil. Anyone would think flames are emitting skywards or blood gushing into the gutters at Deeland !! I find it all quite laughable actually. Go Dees...... great in 8 !!

leucopogon... I concur.. Youre on someone elses property...you respect it. Doing Doughies !! really..something I expect from a yob !! I thought he was better than that.

this is WA football we're talking about though...they dont quite do things the same !!!!! lol

its 2008.. I have had my concerns and reervation about more than a handful of players over the years. Some of these have departed recently. They no longer enter the frame..they are of no concern in this context any longer. Some remain. Im prepared to wipe the slate clean for now. What has gone before is just that, history. We are in the here and now looking forward. A fresh footy dept with invigorated charges and some reborn players. Some have openly suggested that they will play anew. Some want to address their critics on the field. I think its good. Hope it happens...for them as much as we supporters. Ive never really cared who wears the jumpers as long as they do it proud. I still dont care. However if some certain folk start " reminiscing" and returning to ways of old then quite posibly some of the same criticisms will be dusted off and slung mercilesly. But again..its a new year.. A NEW HOPE..... i feel a disturbance in the force !!
-
History would suggest the only way he CAN play forward IS standing on the backline !!! but seriously..Im intrigued to see what he can do down there. Bailey seems to think he has something.. time will tell.
-
Those who lok to thte MCC as any solution are indeed looking backwards.. We need the club to look forwards. The MCC has already shown it will lay with the wolves. The club IS putting in place a procedure.. they have appoined SLADE to headhunt potentials.. and the ydid this weeks ago..on the quiet. This shows plaiing.. shows aptitude.. shows thoroughness and that they are directing play not other way around. Sort of reminds you of the approach to a new coach. for the right person this is THE job.. If you can make it in this position you will have that many stars on your belt !!!!! It wont be for the feint hearted, but we dont want them anyway. Reminds me a little of Agincourt... they were tired.. they were near beaten, they were hungry...they faced a far more numerous and better equipped enemy. But with a little lateral thinking and sheer guts and bravado they totally F@#KED them !! Lesson to be learnt.. believe in yourselves.. and dont let others dictate terms.. Work to your own plan . This I believe is the new Melbourne way.. We do it our way !! I await the oohs and ahhhs when the new CEO is announced. Go Dees

Yep..Im with you 100% on this Rhino. For the life of me I dont understand the wimpish pessimism exhibited by some. It would be the most obstinate of commentators that would decry our finish last year was truly inidicative of our potential and to that we've added coaching pizaz, added some fillers of gaps in the team ( not all but some ) got some more beef on the bones and some fellas back form the bench. Ive got money on us finishing top 8 ...and I dont spend money frivouously...I expect to collect at the end of the H & A !!

Patrick Smith on Harris Replacement
beelzebub replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well I for one am going to have faith.. Ol Preacher did a plodders job.. neither here nor there in the end.. it was deemed time for him to move on and the club went about its job of finding a new coach.. wasnt rushed.. they thought about it..and seemingly have got a good'en in Bailey. They ave instigated the search for a new CEO weeks ago..they are already looking.. I expect a similar result in a new Dynamcally thinking CEO. People write this club off a bit quick !! Its not by accident we've been here the longest !!! Smith article is full of fluff really... bit like saying a swimmer it going to get wet...all statements of the obvious. What is he saying that the reasoned aongst us dont already understand. -
Based on what exactly ?? Personally I think there are probably 4-5 teams that are al lbut monty's near the top...and mayeb as many near the bottom.. we're in the group thats left...could end up anywhere...but far from last. Back to the issue of Harris's departure...is there anything to be read into the idea that Caro is of the AGED...and Harris from the same Tome ??..anything there ?? lol TURMOIL : unrest; agitation; commotion; tumult; uproar . Hmm As a club are we displaying any of those ?? If anything we are currently experiencing the absolute opposite. We ( MFC ) are quietly ( as much as is possible ) going about our business of rebuilding the various depts. Yes.. is it wide and encompassing? yep. Probably one of the largest rebuildings this club has undertaken for a long long time. Is there panic ? Is there dissent ? Are offices being picketed ? Are there mass meetings in rented halls displaying massive outpourings of disatisfaction ? Are players wanting leave in droves ??? I must be akin to Van Winkle as I mus have slept too long.. all this commotion going on and I was unaware !! No dear reader..if anything is wrong its that there probably ought to be a bit more hurrah and flag waving..maybe that will come :) I agree the timing is a bit odd but it seems to be as amicable as these things can be. I have often been intereted to read the scribblings of C Wilson...but now I will be far more cautious with regard to her ramblings as she has obviously fallen off some perch.
