youd want to think Spencer would be afforded more than one year anyway to show some development. The chant of Aussie Aussie Aussie..... seems somehow destined !! lol

Totally with you Deanox.. I cant understand the rush to cut off the cash . Yes its all marvellous isnt it to strut around saying we aren't supposedly beholden' to anyone but the reality is as PG srmises its really just another way of the AFL funding a club. Its very clever of some clubs to play the psych game . They would love clubs on the receiving end to get all 'shitty' and stop taking it for want of imferred pride etc. Its just a gambit. Less money = weakened position = easier opposition !! A lot of football these days is played out way before anyone runs onto the grass and a ball is bounced !! id almost be saying.. what only a measly Million..wheres the rest of the blood money for stacking the competition ???
-
doesnt concern me one iota !! lol.. I know what Ive seen !! and I'm not the only one. If he's half the player even HE thinks he is.. he'll know himself he's let himself down on these occasions !!
-
I think the Dees were possibly hoping Sampi would come up to scratch and so couldnt take the last pick. Im happy AS wasnt picked..but only as he hasnt got over the line with ticking all the boxes..He does have talent.. ..scuh is life. Wil be a bit weird I suspect for the Beach Rd boys to walk over the line to officially red and blue.. good luck to them. Willo got to keep his boys !!

AUSSIE WONAEAMIRRI would seem to be the smokey on our lsit.. Dosnt seem to have been training with any of teh vic clubs the past few weks.. ( open to correction ) Must have been a bit more of Sir Baileys' local knowledge coming into play. ... someone go sign up Tiwi Island as members !! wonder if Martin and Valenti keep their old lockers at TBO ? lol So whilst the Toiges were knicking our CAC we must have had someone in the stands !! All very cat and mouse isnt it heheh !!

Imgoing to go out on a limb here and pick Kangars.. Probably didnt pick him in the draft to allow room in the PSD for a look see at Sampi.. I think the Mfc now have seen enough ( or not !! ) to consider their decision and will now look to youth . Im suspecting they might have to take Kangars NOW rather than the rookie draft in case he's snapped up by another team. Still Noon tomorrow will see this right or wrong !!
-
just possibly to the contrary ...without any cost they give him the maximum period to prove to us he's worth a look. Tomorrow wil tell
-
please..wasnt mocking your effort..simply suggesting something along those lines more polished would be quite good
-
good effort Nugget...might have something there...if yo dont mind me saying.. with more polish... I liked it

The thing is...even should we get on better feet financially Id still stick my hand out for whatever the AFL will give...as for reasons mentioned above..its effectively 'damages' for unfair trading. If the AFL want/need to give the big ticket ( sponsor generating ) games to others then I would want compensation, irrespective of where I am. And if the Shed doesnt want their's I 'll take their's too ) As long as their s any sort of money going begging from the AFL ...Id be pushing to get some. Only a fool wouldnt !!

The thing I keep thinking to myself is ...are we that bloody desperate to pick up this bloke ( Sampi ) who whilst has a talent , quite frankly seems out of sorts on a number of fronts. Ppl seem resigned that he might not prove of much worth til 09 ?? Are we that RICH we can throw money away on "maybe's " ?? Id rather pick up a kid in the PSD which of course defeats the purpose of it, as you either pick em up in the Draft of as cheap and cheerfuls in the Rookie draft. If he cant play in 08 then give him a big miss for me.

Nasher..Maurie... well put and succintly so !! The are various arguments in al this and no doubt some are coloured if not tainted, by where you are in the who shebang !!. Its not a level playing field and is detined to never be so. It cant be if the overseeing body is proactive in concerted efforts to do things in areas when fiscal balance doesnt exit. In thse cicumstances its only fair to redistribute accordingingly. Instead of a 'handout; one could argue its "damages " for unfair trading !! The point really about this retort by PG is not so much ( to me ) about equilibriums and fairnesses etc but more that he ( we ) wont be rough shod over any more.. We wont let biased and weighted comments by Jeff Shed etc to go unchecked. We wont be bullied !! For this I think Gardner and co ought to be aplauded. Other fiscal arguments are just that.

Anyone who seriously thinks a town of just over a 100000 can support an AFL level team is quite frankly dreaming !! it might be able to turnup to the odd 'special' game but there is no where near enough of anythoig to get an AFL working !! Always thought Tassie could work possibly with a relocated team... but they would struggle also.. but are a far more realistic proposition. ( and even that wont happen )

they'll be no crawling...lol. better to arrive at sept in good form and fit
-
actually I dont hink we'll set the world on fire straight out of the box but build through the season.. Slow and steady wins the race..

you cant help but have the impression that its more a 'head' issue with Col than pure injuries. Is a lot easier to shine in the kiddies than the real game !! I have a sneaking suspiscion we will see a few "new ' players this year. that is..they look like people we know.. just 'act' differently!! lol Col only has to look over his shoulder and he'll see half a dozen champing at the bit !! either he steps up or he'll be stepping out !! Will be interesting to see how Bails some of thse boys though. Col..and not alone, often seemed constrained out of position in the ND era.

somethig I think we often fall into as a trap is this notion nowadays about players in "positions" its not hard and fast now. eons ago in a century far far away , players did indeed pretty much stick to an assigned position. That ws the nature of the game.. more regimented. Todaysd games bears about as much semblance to this as say todya's cars compared to an ol' EH ! Yes..both cars .. vastly different machines. Today a player is naamed as X position. In some ways they might as well just say .."you're up the front...and youre up the back !!" With tagging and close marking tactics, together with players dragging this bloke or that away from the play its not cut and dried. few may agree with this but if I were setting up the forwards I wouldnt give them the tradiional positions any more.. Id give them ROLES !! You.. primary goal kicker.. you scrounger.. you ..create merry hell .. you , run intercepts acoss the backmen... you ..do this etc. etc. At th end of the day the Roles have to follow the play of the ball as best as they are charged to do.. This will cause them to play out of 'position' far more than they are in it. Id fit up the blokes with relevant skillsetsand team plays. Then really let them ebb and flow with the game. Bailey has said that to set targets is by defintion imposing limits...I say in a similar vogue that to assign 'specific ' positions these days ( especially in attack) is to limit the opportunites by constricting thinking. One ploy i often liked wa the way the Dees would line up in a line., thus denying the defenders any real idea f what was going on until the ball was in play. Id go back to somethng along this..maybe not as visually dramatic..but from a conceptual thing.Assign tasks..and let them go where the ball dictates. Would be a defenders nightmare !!

The AFL want hte Kanga on the GC and the Doggies parked outside of Parramattta...and if they wont go... well they use stand ins !! Of course its better if those teams go. now its just game on...and its nothing about footy!!

How would you feel if it were us instead of North?
beelzebub replied to Demon Head's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's a lot to think about amongst all the hullabaloo. Much of the current dillemmas experienced by not only the Roos ( call them what yo might) , but by any of the impoverished are rooted in the "big plan' of the AFL.. its seems the tail does indeed wag the dog !! From an AFL's perspective they really couldnt care less who is actually in the competition they are only concerned that the competitiion is healthy and burgeoning and situated well and firmly at No 1 in the country as far as footy codes go. They are using corporate models of survival and solvency as opposed to the viewpoint of the average fan. The AFL looks upon itself as a brand. its looking at territory. Its looking at revenue streams as well as expansion opportunities. In other words its looking at its next meal. What is left behind from the last is immaterial to them. That is a casualty of the war called "business".. Demetriou could probably care less who ius actually in the league come 2025 as long as it propsers, somewhat ironic considering his football background but that in itself ought to have told the present crop of combatants what they were up agaisnt. This man is an idealist pragmatist. Melbourne (fc) ought to use the time available , that created by the diversion of all things Kanga , to do some more work behind the scenes to further bolt this team to the foundations of this city. This may be heresy to some but if t hat involved greasing the paths that allow/casue the kangas to go north then so shal it be. All less than do well Melbourne base teams are in survival mode. I feel for North. It cant be pleasant. I admire Brayshaw for not only feeling his passion but doing somethig abou t it. il it be succesful? I dont think so. The AFL it seems have labeled arden st folk for the alter of sacrifice. The focus is now on the Summer of the Seventeenth team !! The AFL is looking to sow seeds into the fastest growing region and really why wouldnt it. If it didnt we would accuse it of lack of foresight. Some might proffer that the Sharks arent a club in our mode. So ?? They are profitable. They are secure. They understand their memebrs and their needs/wants etc. They....are solvent !! The real era of the impassioned baracker turning up week in week out providing the basis of all things footy has long gone. The sport is financed by media which caters , by very definition , to the couch potato crowds, to the transient interest , to the advertising dollar. Fall prey to the romantic ideal of football following at your clubs peril. The smart club will embrace revenue streams at all possibilities even those that irk and seemingly disadvantage the fan in the outer. A 17th team is posturing at worst by the AFL , is forward thinking at its best. North have been fools and their folly may have more than one casualty. Footscray ( call them what you like ) are now on notice. You dont hink that was an accidental throw away line by AD about a Western Sydney side ?? They would do well to heed that advance warning. I can only hope that messrs Gardner and co are just a little more than uncomfortable at present.. ( [censored] scared would actually be better) I hope they see this as classic warning...this IS the writing on the wall !! I really hope our club has a plan B..( and C through Z ) as the machine called AFL is only concerned that its working.. not who comprises it !!. North will roo its decision !! -
and yes Neale had a plan didnt he !! I did say...all's well .....so far !! Neale had a 'wonderful' idea.. it was flawed....and it was telegraphed !!! this guy is a lot cagier.. yes its only December.. a few more months and it will be even better !!
-
One thing he does have..is superb marking skills, this is dead handy bringing the ball down the lines. I'd keep him at a contest. The middle is run...id have him at HFF
-
for those that have him in the midfiled. at whose expense ?
-
if he doesnt step up Im sure Bails will have his plane tickets ready!!! oftr//HFF
-
needs a good whack around the ears and a sit down talk about how things "really are" This is his litmus year me thinks.
-
forgot forgot about that...gave a chuckle.. ..maybe Ted too ..he reads from time to time !! lol
