Something that hasnt even been touched on.. is the fact that Soccer spectating is by far and wide almsot a wholy male preserve. The point ? Get a few blokes together .. add beer.. add some territorial bravado...and there's your recipe for chanting. You just dont thave that here ..and for mine.. thats good..

Hoppy back... even more Melbourne !! ...yes....we've had some gems of kicks havent we !! lol
-
You raise a salient point...all other likes/dislikes aside ... this works there ( and any reasonable Soccer venue in Europe etc ) as the accoustics of these little places suit the echo'y sound. The larger, more open stadia that we use arent so useful for this.

bonzer beauty ..another game at the G.. Yep might be a Roos homer but its on OUR turf !!... surely thats a win for us.. I mean...where do we play the best ?? :)

Milan is indeed a sister city. So the Vixens are now a powerful international brand ? Must be gladdening news to them ..lol As much as I thought /think Team Melbourne has much potential it does seem to be a lame duck really. Quite possibly the only benefit will be physical as such with the sharing of nfrastrcuture ad esulting discounting of costs etc. Rhino:"There is clearly a strong crossover of people who follow AFL and/or soccer. More so than netball. " based on what..puresly speculative at best unless you can show some evidence. If anything I would suspect the opposite ...judging by the number of women in attendance at AFL games. Given Netball involvement is greater than soccer ( source ABS ) and that quite possibly those playing/supporting netball are more likely to support another sport such as AFL (or RL etc .in respective states ) than those involved with soccer also supporting AFL. Essentially Soccer and Footy are Oil and Water in this country. the point is what possible gain could MFC gain by any association with an EPL ?..let alone singing their bloody song ?
-
you can read cant you??? Try fully quoting in context... though that would never suit your methods !! "Quite frankly I dont want this club associated with ANY soccer club., directly or by inference ..this is the MFC and we play FOOTY !! To associate with any powerful brand of a diametrically opposite code will only diminish our own identity .. you arent going to gain anything by being the lil buddy of an EPL out fit......." since when is Netball a football code Rhino ?? ..
-
NO !! You must understand the legacy that is "You'll never walk alone ". I wont even bother with its origins as a show tune..but view it simply as you portray it in the soccer light. It might have its modern day roots via the merseyside warblings of Gerry and mates but that song I can tell you is on just about every bloody juke box in a pub all over the UK !! ..So I can tell you a bloody lot of people know the words to that song there.. who does here ?? Its an emotive song without doubt but what relevance it has to any footy club here let alone the MFC is totally lost on this supporter. Its no wonder it never caught on.. its just not a fit into the character of the supporter here. what would you have after half time.. "Ferry....across the ....M----aribyrnong" ???? Quite frankly I dont want this club associated with ANY soccer club., directly or by inference ..this is the MFC and we play FOOTY !! To associate with any powerful brand of a diametrically opposite code will only diminish our own identity .. you arent going to gain anything by being the lil buddy of an EPL out fit.......no mutter how greyyyyyyyyyyyyyyytt an idea it may !! the idea of some sort of chant etc actually has much merit..be fantastic as they run out.. .. 10000 voices ( in unison ) shouting something as simple as "Demons....Demons ....Demons " etc.. in a rising fervour ( maybe a scoreboard prompt could help ) .. You think thats ridiculously too simple.. just imagine the cacophony !!

this guy just might know what he's doing !! how many times have we discussed , when mentioning stats etc, that its irrelevent how many touches so and so has if the disposal ( and inherent decision causing it ) were poor I seriously think many are going to underate us going into next year.. poor bastards !! lol

CAC didnt select the team, didnt put them on the pitch !! he supplied the material.. some incompetence resulted in some gerry built teams !! not that the ingredients were necessarily incorrect.. just used to poor effect at times. and thats CAC's fault ...why ?????? CAC wasnt perfect..who is. He didnt get it right al lthe time...who does.. but once he got them it wass the job of others !!

In some ways and with no real disrepect to anyone , over the last few years we have had a few likely types come through the ranks with mixed results. Some shone , some are waiting for the Mr Sheen...some will never shine !! I m genuinely excited and intrigued by this lot. SOme real lateral thinking and some uncovering of maybe more than one gem. Im not sure that these kids will impact on Melbourne just yet but I suspect attendances at TBO might just be up this year great post DL

There is another point which oftern goes unnoticed...maybe... just maybe the people at Collingwood are BETTER at this game...the game of notoreity, the game of brinkmanship, the game of refusing to cowtail to the AFL. They are bettter it seems at snaffling opportunites with up coming synegies.. i.e grabbing netball from under our noses etc. There is something that distintly irks me about Melbourne , that is we seem to be waiting for history to envelope us instead of going ot and creating it!! I hope this changes. Things like the 150th.. MFC should be running this show..they ought to be stating what its all about and publicly rebuking the AFL for having the temerity of hijacking it !! Collingwood would.. eddie wouldnt put up with that sort of sh!t. Having a real stage presence and some guts about you creates a salable identity..and THATS what gets sponsors in.. they want to be asociated with soemthing !! Its really time MFC stood up and told the world what its really about.. but it doesnt do it.. even when history DOES hand it to it on a plate!! Paul !! get off the back foot and go forward on the front and kick this ball around a bit, and if no ball...kick something else !! This is the sort of X factor that gets people in..they want to be with the club that DOES things. unfortuantely in the greater footy world we are seen as soft !! I hate it !!

Keep in mind when some of those games are on. Its not apples and apples. I wouldnt say those figures are as drastically bad as some might think. They of course could be better.

The boys are looking pretty fit and ripped at present.. gotta love the preseason hey.. the wolrd looks good.. , bodies glisten.. we havent dropped a game.. life is good !! I mention this as this is a common situation year in year out; but there seems something different this year. There seems to be a degree of steel about this lot. On teh training track at least they seemed terrificly focussed, renergised, determined. Whilst the bods are honed its the mindsets that seem to be emerging as the new weapon du force !! if there was a distinct weakniess at teh MFC it was what was running around in the players minds ( or lack thereof !! ) Whether its the big cleanout, the acknowledgement that places are up for grabs or a new sense of work ethic the team seems keen. leadig wher ehe can is one Brock McLean. Seems to be amongst the leaders at training the house down. He let the opposition get the beter of him far to often in season 07 but probably what irked him most was he lost his focus as a result, he lost his Mojo, his spark his flair...it all went into cruisy woosy ,it all went south !! Too early to tell i suppose.. no balls bounced or kicked in anger but I think Brock has much to prove to......Brock. I think he is steeled to show us what he can really do. I dont think he is going to be too troubled by tags in 08...he'll rellish the challenge
-
I agree.. ( big of me huh...lol ) heheh Col plays best down the lines.. is exceptional from wing to flank. He can play through the middle, in course of execution as such ..he's just not a midfielder if that makes sense.
-
he wont be an underachiever for long !! not at the MFC...not any more !! edit . p.s. was that a Melbourne Scout ?

Its quite intersting.. I have noticed thought out the whole of the last months since Bails has taken charge that a single ( for purposes of this comment keeps permeating all things. If you put the hard work in and show committment 9 and of course if you have the goodies ) you WILL get a chance to wear the jumper. It will be performance based as per needs. if we need yo and your doing the right htings you WILL play. Constantly the idea of work and reward is there. While this may have been a throw awayline inthe past it really seems the simple theme now . Any thing less than a 100% comittment wont , not so much be tolerated, it simply wont be rewarded. You get people to do the exceptional , not by castigating them or punishing them but by praise and reward. Danners seemed to have blind faith in many to come up with the chocolates, Bailey is putting in place a better structure. if you do it , you will play, but show me the chocolates first !! )
-
Col's demons and dragons are all in his head !! Its all there for him to revel in , if he wants. Up to him. I sense this will be the last year if he doesnt. Bailey doesnt stand for bullsh!t.
-
I reckon Id rather two Grinters than one TJ !! Sure Trapper had silky skills.. but it was a little like which Johnno is turnin gup . With Rodney you knew you had an impassioned 110% effort nutcase A bloke who would walk through fire ( and back again if there was a beer...hehe he) The thing is you never doubted the committment or mindset ( I might think about that last bit !! lol ) . Col has to get his head straight, simple as that...all else will follow !!!! Sylvia on song is an extremely handy footballer.. ................ crossed fingers !!
-
nicely done ) maybe its a tact the club could use fair dinkum... utilise the free media ?? roll on 08

truly half expected you to still be out on the floor !! pmsl !!!

I must declare a liking to Whetas. .hopefull y he can take a step up this coming season. Until someone comes along who can do better we need his booming kick outs. CJ..yep..agree.. needs to really show his stuff. Probably Clogs last as surmised Miller.. hmmm... next!! Jamar and PJ must be on borrowed time unless they get going. Warnock is going to heave to break through or he'l l be usurped by someone behind him. Weetra may never tie his boot-laces in anger.. I'll invite the normal amounts of scorn by suggesting Dunn, Slyvia and Ooze will want to keep the standards high.. plenty of willing footsteps behind them. Then we have some injury prone lads.. As much as we like them Beamer and Wheels may find themselves on the endangered list if they break down again.. harsh...but thats reality !!. One certain D Neitz might be a member of that club also...he's not getting either yonger or fitter..just an observation. cue...barbed arrows and burning oil !!
-
sort of begets the next question .... who might really need to get a wiggle on or they might find themselves a little furhter than the outer come eos '08 ?
-
thats right..you perform , you win games and you create interest !! thats the whole bloody point.. creating interest.. the trick is to have folk primed and ready for that occurence !! The whole point of effective marketing is to take a product , in this instance a winning Demon outfit and put it into the path of peopel who are sympathetic in an affluent way to enact upon it and spend money. For us that might be attendance leading to memberships. It might also be merchandising etc.
-
Ok..Im a little fuzzy here.. how does one play a sport and not follow it ?.. The very act of playing it is evidence you are interested in it surely ? I realise a point is that the money per se in Netball isnt on the scale of AFL...thats not the point. The idea is to syntesize efforts, expenditures and exposures, cross promotion etc. We lack members , agree ? There are of the order of nearly 1/2 million folk active in netball. with about 1/3 million organised events. ( thats quite a bit more than in AFL btw !! ) about a quarter of those are in Victoria and as such come under the wachfull eye of Netball Victoria. The largerst growth area of AFL spectaing is as it happens women. Women as it also happens will spend more on various club paraphanalia. To discount if not wholsale dismiss this audience as potential participants in AFL audiences would be folly. Id be very interested to know stats on AFL memberships by gender. And also any trends in those groups. If you can get exposure to a very large group of people you chance the opportunity to have some come and watch. ( especially if some sort of promotion is embarked upon possibly offering discounted game tickets etc..and any number of other methods) . Peopel who come and watch may develop a following and those may become members. It al lhas to start somewhere !! as they say any foot in a door has to be an advantage !!
