no, it's a pro-racing industry proponent it has vested interests, to say the least meanwhile, fisherman's bend was first proposed as a conversion from industrial about 15 years ago - the tram line to / from it is at least 20 years away from being developed, with no business case proposed, as is the same with the bridge connecting it to the city 90% of the land in it is privately owned - good luck getting developers to commit to open space when they can make money on it instead

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda
i personally would be pretty impressed if there was 50,000 there their home game at docklands last year - 22,570 our home game at the g in 2024 - 37,403 our average home and away crowd vs them is 26,652 to be planning to get nearly double that seems... optimistic

NON-MFC: Round 01
qld firming to take on the vics in the shield final - sa currently 3/119 in their first dig vs vics in their final round robin game, whereas qld have struck quickly on day 1, skittling tas to have them 6/131 inside 37 overs i think qld needs the outright victory and for sa to lose to qualify

if he doesn't get to 400+ games, multiple premierships, a norm smith, many b&fs and all oztrayan selections then he's letting his fellow background claxon callers down

Potential changes to draft
looks like changes are incoming: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-afl-is-about-to-shake-up-the-draft-and-it-s-set-to-cost-the-blues-a-record-price-20260306-p5o87l.html Key pointsThe AFL wants to protect the integrity of the draft – keep top 10 selections available to the teams that finish in the bottom 10. Clubs matching bids on draftees will likely have a loading on the points they pay, weighted according to where they finish on the ladder. Clubs would only be able to use two picks to match a bid – meaning that if they finish high on the ladder, they would likely have to give up existing talent to get enough points. Carlton, who want to land father-son Cody Walker this year, prepared for this scenario when they traded out Charlie Curnow, nabbing Sydney’s first-round picks for the next two seasons. If the proposed weighting had been in place in 2025, the Lions might have had 25 per cent extra in points (for example) added to academy prospect Daniel Annable’s price, making it harder for them to match the bid that came for him at pick six.

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
can't remember who posted this originally on here, but i always think of this screed published in 2025 when people talk about clubs tumbling into trouble... It’s over. At some point the analytics told the AFL that 85% of its audience aren’t going anywhere - regardless of results. Huge, monumental spectacle is what the AFL wants its brand to be. Why spend decades building up half the competition when the other half already provides everything you need? The smart big clubs woke up to this a while back. Collingwood’s list strategy is diabolical on paper, but they know they’ll just top up on talent because the system is built to sustain them. 3 of Geelong’s 4 best players came from other clubs. This year was the least competitive season of AFL ever. The top 9 teams were decided by mid April. Thats 5.5 months of meaningless footy for half the clubs. The Age report on how poor this season was because they aren’t feeding directly from the AFL trough. Everyone else just happily follows the talking points, or else they might not get a good free suite at next years Gather Round. It annoys me enormously that 2025 will be a huge financial success for the AFL because its overall product has stunk this year, and the guy leading the organisation never really wanted the job, and clearly has no vision for the future of the game. This is all part of the problem. It continues to succeed in spite of itself, because we love the game too much.

The New Rules?
the stand rule has gone from making it 18 vs 17 to 18 vs 16 cos any time two players hear 'stand' they freeze on the spot for fear of giving away a 50 - as the season goes on it'll be relaxed, guaranteed right up to the point where it costs a 50, a goal, and a win in the dying seconds of a game later in the season that decides whether we make the play-in tournament or not; my mfcss is a-tingling at the possibilities! last touch between the arcs was effectively what they were doing for the last couple of years anyway; now it's just removed the grey the centre line in the centre circle for rucks is proving interesting already; a couple of times last night tdk delayed his jump and cameron went up with knee out to brace for impact, and got penalised as such - certain he'll try the same vs gawn this week
