Delisting, Trade and FA discussion 2018
so so far the retirements, delistings, next gen academy selection, plus trade rumour mill has it as... OUT: Balic, Vince, Bugg, McKenna, King. Pedersen, Filopovic (rookie), Kent (to St. Kilda), Hogan (to Fremantle) IN: Preuss, May, Kade Kolodjashnij, Bedford (likely to cost our first current pick) with four short on the list, i'd like to think we're getting two high end picks PLUS may for hogan, but sadly think it's less rather than more likely plus there's the standard rumour that tyson is on the chopping block, avb and jkh are still yet to be signed as far as i am aware, but presuming they stay and we don't add another experienced player to that list, here's a rough go at best squad for round 1 next year, up against the reigning premiers collingwood on a friday night at the g, with thankfully no fitness concerns... B: Jetta - May - Lever HB: Salem - O Mac - Hibberd ?: Viney - Brayshaw - KK HF: Petracca - T Mac - ANB F: Preuss - Weideman - Melksham Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes I/c: Jones - Spargo - vandenBerg - Fritsch Emerg: Lewis - Frost - Hannan - J Smith Funny that Joel Smith is borderline to get an emergency spot (choice of him or Hunt), in my ideal world, when we most recently played an preliminary final - a change to the side that i completely understood from a match-up point at the time...even if Smith did end up playing forward at stages

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
I say not
-
Josh Kelly
it is absurd that they are 'tradeable'
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
worth about a second round...in points if we're flagging this far out that we're keen we'll get it done, and gc17 will bank the points / use whatever we trade them for spare change
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Only if it’s an ‘unbelievable’ deal for MFC according to my rumour mill
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
And I struggle to see how May improves that i understand that GC17’s midfield outs zero defensive pressure on the ball carrier, leaving him exposed, but he has regularly had bags of goals kicked on him throughout his career He’s not quick on the lead and he’s not able to battle the high kicks

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
yes...undersized for a modern key defender the likes of harris andrews are the prototype - extrezzo tall but agile, just like the key forwards they need to match up on it's part of why sydney are so keen to get darcy moore in, as he has the height and the nous to play that role
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
May is not a gorilla; he’s undersized for a modern key defender
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
i'm thinking more historically, of course, with the likes of farmer, that traitorous so-and-so scott thompson, etc. stretch and viney are father-sons, and the latter is basically a vic boy - only lived in sa for, what, three years?
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
wouldn't go near sa or wa boys based upon our history of holding onto them that's IF a hogan trade happens
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
he was a crows supporter growing up, so i don't believe that for a second where?
-
Draftees from outside the AFL system
or they might get jimmy toumpas and shane valenti... look, the likelihood is that the carlton access to shane mcadam will go to adelaide along with their second round pick to prise out mcgovern gc17 will pick grigg, who gets another go at an afl career
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
he couldn't do that as he's not a free agent next year
-
Thanks Cameron Pedersen
Got the absolute most out of himself as a player Kudos to him.. the battle cry of ‘Pedo power!!’ Will be missed
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
croad they traded alongside pick 10 to land pick 1 frawley and franklin left as free agents
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
nah, it's just speculation, that's all
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
denham seems to report EVERY YEAR that hogan is leaving you don't need to read it @Superunknown it's just all speculation with lots of ifs, maybes, and perhaps no actual quotes other than jesse saying 'i'm happy at the dees' from when he signed in october, 2016

Delisting, Trade and FA discussion 2018
garlett is under contract, so it's not as simple as delisting him

2019 best 22 and depth chart
toby bedford will bring the speed and defensive intensity you want from a small forward, and he'll come on the list as our next generation academy selection, but he's not a 'crumber' per se currently i'd say in terms of rough 'positions' we have: key forwards: hogan, tom mcdonald, weideman, tim smith small forwards: spargo, kent, anb, bugg, garlett mid-sized marking forwards: melksham, hannan, balic hybrid mid-sized forwards / midfielders: petracca, vandenberg midfielders: jones, harmes, viney, brayshaw, tyson, oliver, stretch, maynard, kennedy harris ruck: gawn, king, filipovic rebound defenders: salem, lewis, hibberd, vince, hunt, fritsch, baker, mckenna, wagner, joel smith key defenders: lever, frost, o mac, petty, keilty small defenders: johnstone, jetta spare parts key position utility: pedersen key areas we seem to lack a fair bit of depth to me are ruck and small defender, which is why i'm understanding of being interested in preuss and a bit surprised we're not being mentioned re nick newman, but perhaps they see him more as a rebounder who knows with the likes of these currently uncontracted players will do: vandenberg pedersen kent keilty johnstone kennedy harris filipovic king mckenna tim smith bugg vince and balic have retired, kent and tyson (who has a year remaining on his contract) have been mentioned multiple times this year in the media re being traded to a new club for a fresh start of those uncontracted i would like to keep these guys on the list in 2019: vandenberg kent kennedy harris tim smith and who knows with keilty - we all want to see him stick around cos his brother is a rad dude, but perhaps there's another club crying out for a key back that could do with someone such as him to cover key defender gaps - a gap that we don't appear to have with four players ahead of him for senior selection, and all bar frost younger than him i think? - and he might take that opportunity main areas of concern in terms of depth appear to be: ruck small defenders small forwards potentially midfield why the latter two categories? garlett was awful this year, and if bugg goes as an uncontracted player, then we have two - both of who played today and neither are what i think of as goalkicking small forwards, more defensively minded players and if we trade away tyson (best 22 majority of the year) and jkh (depth) goes, there's not much there beyond the first five of oliver, viney, harmes, brayshaw, and jones, who is certainly not the player he once was
