Fantastic to see him get his chance. Good luck to him! -
i've got no idea what jason taylor is going to do, and i'm happy to ride that wave.

his highlights on the mfc site look pretty encouraging. looks like he reads the flight and judges the ball well, looks a good kick, looks like he has some pace. at one stage he does something stringer-esque, and then in the next clip stringer is kicking the ball and he's marking. i remember him bobbing up for a goal as he won a premiership for the dogs in the vfl, but i left after about the 10 minute mark of the last quarter, and don't really remember him standing out - it was all jong and adams destroying us in the third.

he loves the club. i don't understand why he doesn't do more in the media. he's articulate, he's good looking, he was a 'flair' player, and he loves his footy. he's a top dude from my interactions with him and he well deserves success in a post-footy life!

AFL hopefuls strut their stuff in VFL finals Hannan's two goals and 10 marks helped the Dogs to a 32-point win over Collingwood in round 21, which ended the Pies' 12-game winning streak. The 22-year-old from St Bernards, since taking an old-fashioned hanger in April, has developed his game to a more consistent level in his second season in the VFL. "He's got his health and his conditioning to a level where he's playing midfield as well, and when he's got his ability to mark overhead and such a long-range left foot on him, he's certainly a weapon for us which is pleasing to have," Hansen said. Hansen described Hannan as a "blank canvas with plenty of potential". "I'd certainly say he's got AFL attributes … and he's a good size. Obviously he's a raw prospect in terms of the talent pathway. He's been a local footballer until he came into our program," he said. AFL hopefuls strut their stuff in VFL finals

Will not play for us again, claiming he was blocked from playing games last year, wants to sue cos his 4th year wasn't auto-triggered. Heritier Lumumba set to retire, could take legal action over concussion treatment -

best sense of humour in the afl: -
Quality thread, thanks all!

Very sad situation.

bullet dodged if it's the same day as the grand prix - better to have no home game on that day than have one, as crowds and tv audiences will likely be diminished as a result.

50k? try closer to 80k. it's gone 75.7k, 83.5k, 62k (when it was in round 2, and there was much gnashing of teeth from the carlton and richmond folks about it), 81k, 78k in the last five years. it works well as a season-opener, with two 'traditional' vic teams, one of whose former and most legendary players is the longstanding chairman of the afl, kicking off the season, in a fixture request that both clubs have had for the best part of the last decade makes plenty of sense. it's a 'fixture', not a draw. we put in the request every year to host queen's birthday and to have no docklands home games, and one of two requests is granted...peptides requested friday nite season opener this year and were 'granted' saturday nite against a bigger team (e.g. hawks not us), and you can bet that some of the other requests that teams have made won't be granted. i would always love it if the clubs made their requests public so we knew what it was that they'd asked for had been 'granted' or not. it's all set up for television, ultimately. gotta play everyone at some stage, and i have zero dramas playing saints at docklands as THEIR home game but i'll be screaming bloody murder if we host any of the tenant clubs at that ground as OUR home game. that, and the lack of fixture organisation to ensure that we have a bye / longer break after a game in the nt are my two bigger fixture gripes than anything else.

It should be a good game to kick off the year with. The two sides directly outside the 8 at the end of 2016, both with chances to push into the 8 in 2017, both with some solid recruiting in the offseason. Also it'll be the Sunday arvo game - live broadcast on 7. They're super quick and skilled, whereas we play contested battering ram football - two disparate styles up against one another. It should be a really great contest, on paper, with us the underdogs.
