Crunch Time
There were similarities in the action. That is a fact. Saying the are similarities is fine, they weren’t the same though. The differences are the Koz was much closer to Soligo when starting his action (so less reaction time) and the force was not even in the same ballpark.

Judd McVee no stinker
Absolutely love Judd McVee and always happy when the ball is in his hands. Having said that, he needs to learn from the Carlton final and the Rioli goal. If he can’t take the opposition player with him, he can’t go to ground/past the ball in those contests. I’m sure he will learn from it for next time.

PREGAME: Rd 03 vs Port Adelaide
I’d favour Petty down back than the Tomlinson, Tmac, Hore combo. But that is dependent on Fullarton or Ben Brown being able to play quality mins forward. May won’t be out for long IF there is no internal damage (lungs, kidneys etc). Rib fractures alone don’t usually have them out for more than 1-2 weeks. Hopefully not too long for Lever either - as mentioned elsewhere, they would have a good idea by now if there was any possibility of ACL.

Crowd numbers - my perspective
There was also public transport issues, e.g. Sandringham line not running. My parents had a tight turnaround from an activity in the morning and weren’t going to be able to make it in time due to traffic/lack of PT so stayed at home. They had fully intended to go though and I’m sure weren’t the only ones.

Compensation for the loss of Angus
That first paragraph is a terrible take. He had gone years without concussion and then was knocked into next year with a huge hit that could have caused brain damage to anyone. Agree that we should be allowed to sign a replacement player. I’m not sure what other compensation we can reasonably expect.

POSTGAME: Match SIM vs Richmond
Not a whole lot that we can read into this result, just that Richmond have better depth than us. The complexion of the game would be completely different with the likely opening round 22s for each team. Individual performances are worth looking into. Very scrappy game overall but I’ll reserve judgement for now.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 2nd February, 2024
Wrong. It was just a one game ban. He will play round 1 (miss round 0)

PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 19th January 2024
Where has this idea that Brayshaw is not slotting straight back into the midfield come from?

If we miss the final 8 next year then ...
Disagree regarding your second paragraph. Gawn and May are the only significant losses to come due to age over the next few years (I consider Tmac and BBB already done). Important players yes, but with free agency and likely a good amount of cap space we would be in a good position to replace them. Ruckman can go on to a surprisingly good age - Sandilands was 36 when he retired (Gawn is almost 32). Our age profile is excellent.

Change coming to the Academy System
It’s crazy than Sydney could take Nick Blakey. North were completely dudded. He would have played AFL at a high level regardless of their academy.

The 2023 AFL Draft Thread
Saints apparently interested in Tholstrup also. But I do agree the pick swap proved dumb given Leake slid. Pick 42 was basically worth nothing anyway. The club didn’t rate the talent available.

Josh Kelly anyone?

Best available please. Picking for needs in the first round is a mistake.

AFLW: QF vs North Melbourne
Adelaide have to get through us to make the GF so yes.

AFLW: QF vs North Melbourne
West was awful against Brisbane. Panicked disposals which cost us goals and field position repeatedly. If she can’t handle the pressure of home and away then how is she going to be in finals? Fwiw I think she is probably just down on confidence and she definitely has it in her to be one of our best, as she showed most of last season. It’s a big call to drop her.

Zanker has also had some excellent games as a mid in previous seasons. But Goldie in there for sure against Adelaide and Brisbane.

AFLW: Rd 10 vs Brisbane
Very very poor showing. Selection baffling with Campbell and Wilson out for Ivey and Watt (why?!), and Gall ultimately staying in the team. We look very one-dimensional without Paxy and really missed Lampard and Gay’s steadiness in the backline. Gall looks to have talent but clearly is not ready for finals-like footy. Brisbane destroyed us with footy smarts. A lot of really dumb decisions, particularly by West who had a stinker. Such a frustrating watch.
