Find it Funny, Dean Kent has been one of our better players all year, like most young guys every few weeks he has a shocker and with out fail poster want him dropped. Unless he is injured or carrying something he won't be dropped. Last game of the year, bring in Garlett for someone leave the kids in to battle a top 4 side maybe drop Michie bit unlucky but I don't expect him to be with us in 2017 so I would rather see players that will out there on Saturday.

Agree, if not for the next 3 weeks, it has to happen in 2017 when we start to string 3,4,5,6 wins in a row. I still think one of boxes we need to tick off is win 3 straight that is the next challenge, I can't remember the last time we won 3 straight
-
Boss Dog great comment, one win doesn't define a season, nor does one loss. That is the next step to win a string of games 3,4,5,6 wins in a row. Our losses to St Kilda, Port and Essendon really showed that we still are fragile and we just need to eliminate these games. Ox was right, this season has been a rollercoaster some very good highs but still a number of games that we can not accept if we want to take the next step

THE MOST AWESOME POST MATCH THREAD EVER!!!
drdrake replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
This win for me was the closure on what has been 10 dark years for our club. Round 2 2007, we kick started the Hawks on what will be on of their most successful period in AFL history. Over the next 10 years they have dominated and whilst we, well we all know what has happened. The dark chapter is now closed and we look forward to our club have 10 years of sunshine. -
Would love to see the AFL ladder on Players turnover which results in a score. T McDonald will almost be sitting on the top of that ladder, his turnovers over the season will average out a 2-3 scores per game. Granted some of this is due to his location on the ground but unfortunately for us as soon as he turns the footy over it will be a score. He will stay at Melbourne and do a good job, but he is one player that has trade value
-
Yes, but it might not be T Mitchell to the Demons. T-Mac to Sydney, Mitchell to Hawthorn pick 18 to MFC. That is about his value on the trade market, flick that to Essendon for Hurley maybe a swap of 3rd round picks

I think this week might be a bit of you young blokes come in and see what standard you need to be striving to be at. I read Oliver is also coming in, so assuming Petracca, Brayshaw, Stretch, Hunt, Harmes, O McDonald stay in we are really looking at the youngest side fielded for a long time, especially if Hogan stays in and Dawes goes out
-
He has played VFL all year against men, we aren't plucking him for school footy. His form has been OK. He either replaces Dawes or Hogan so the other will be there to take some heat for him. I think we need to stop looking in our rear view mirror at the mistakes we made in the past. We haven't missed much with the development of our kids and playing them at the right time over the past 18 months.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
drdrake replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
That would take him close to RFA, by that stage the AFL would have canned the compensation picks for Free agents. -

Can I ask why there isn't the same rumours going around for Patrick Cripps. From country WA played at East Fremantle, if the Dockers are chasing young WA stars this guy would be very high on their shopping list. You can build a midfield around this bloke he will be a super star of the game. -
Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
drdrake replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, I'm serious. Tom McDonald has currency and if we want to attract an A grade player to our club you might need to give up a B grade player to make it happen. For all the good Tom does he costs us at least 2 goals a game. We read these posts but as a club you need to be prepared to give someone up to make trades happen. We don't have many players out of contract with any currency -
Correct, looking at those sides really only Mark Jamar and Nathan Jones developed into good AFL footballers, the rest Rigoni, Bizzell, M Febey had good AFL Careers. I suppose you can add in Dunn and Armstrong(@West Coast)

We really don't have a lot to trade out. Trading Tom McDonald is a real option if you could get a pick between 15-25. -
If the Umpires made the right call, then that means they missed about 10 others for the match and I reckon through the round over 100. That is more the issue the inconsistency between umpires. There was one by Shannon Hurn inside our forward 50m that was more deliberate that both of our two in question.

It is very important this year and as previously stated more for the two sides our older brigade that have been with our club through a very tough period that are facing a possible exit from the club at years end plus the boast it will give a number of 1-3rd year players.
-
They just realised our Mids were smashing them and they just sat players behind the Footy and tried to catch us on the rebound. We defended our forward half the best we every have, was that because the Eagles allowed us to do that because we continued to turn the ball over going inside 50m and they knew if they stick with us at some stage they will get through. I just think at some stage we had to look at stopping the Eagles intercept marks, the way around this to me was send on of our tall defenders forward in the last.
-
There seems to be a slight adjustment in our defensive Zone. Looks like we are now ensuring we have at least 1 but most time 2 players ensuring players don't get behind us and kicking the easy open goal. Unfortunately on the weekend we controlled so much of the footy in our forward half West Coast just had 3 spare inside our forward 50m arc. The last quarter we had to win it, we needed to man those loose players up, we had 3 quarters of the Eagles defending with large numbers, I reckon we should have pushed a Tom McDonald forward at least to stop the Eagles Inside their D50m Marks.

Lucky West Coast supporters go hiding when they lose. If it was Freo supporters you might go missing. If we can only turn the clock back to 1998 the win that set us up for the finals. No idea how I left Subiaco that day standing. Still my greatest memory as a Melbourne Support standing on the old Hill at Subiaco surrounded by Eagles supporters. Stuck fat with the Demons, looking back now if I'd switched in '87 would have celebrated 3 flags

This has been our issue every since David Neitz retired. Our senior players and on field leadership have been disgusting over the past 10 years. You can add in Dawes to that list, Grimes, Jones to me has had his worsted season for about 5-6 years, don't blame him he carried that midfield for a long period but some of his skill errors of late have been woeful. We still have that gapping hole of quality footballers between the age of 24-28, really Jack Watts, Tom McDonald, Jetta and Max Gawn are the only players we have that are any good in that age gap no mids at all. The 20-23 crop looks really strong Viney, Petracca, Hogan, Kent, Tyson, Brayshaw, Oliver, Hunt, Harmes and a few more that look like they will be OK

Stuie, just refuting your claim that the AFL do clinics and promotions around the theme round games. Mate the AFL players get to the club it is all about footy and their club, nothing to do with the Social Themes. The AFL is so far removed from local football, they offer little to no support to local clubs.
-
Stuie, not sure what local footy club our area that you belong to, but the clinics are about the clinic and increasing club brand awareness of that club. I have never heard and AFL player or official take about anything but there club and footy. They certainly do it in front of the media but that is it. Is it AFL responsibility no way, it is up to the family to educate and guide their kids. Can AFL players help to influence kids on the right path, for sure 10-12 year old kids will listen and hopefully you can point a few on a good path. What the AFL needs to do as per my previous post is help local clubs deal with the issues that face society. Someone posted getting a good Junior coach is one off the most important people in your life. They can have a very good positive influence on kids, they don't replace parents but they can certainly create a good positive environment that can hopefully influence the kids.

Danners, took an aging side from Bottom into a Prelim and went close to pinching the 98' flag. He had massive turnover over good senior players but kept us playing finals until his last year.
-
His flat hand, two grabbing marking style might suit Darwin, the humidity might soften the concrete.

Fremantle may look at moving him on. There window is shut for 5-8 years so Fyfe at 25yo would fetch them 2 first round picks and a bit of salary cap to chase WA players like Hogan and Cripps. You add those two plus McCarthy, you are starting to build a good spine for 8-10 years. If he is non committal as a club you need to look to move him on. If you crystal ball free agency there is no guarantee that the AFL will keep compensation for clubs that lose players so clubs need to look at trading players out before they hit free agency if that player won't commit to the club. I still think free agency needs to effect the club getting the player, for example Frawley, Hawthorn should lose their first round pick, the structure now means top clubs can maintain youth whilst topping up their list.
