  1. Jetta knows his game and limits. He reads the ball very well and jumps at the contest with very good timing. Also a very good mark.
  2. I wonder if this quote will be something we hear more and more. My understanding that AFL participation numbers are increasing at the early age groups Auskick to U10s but the 14+ age groups the drop off is enormous. Be interested to actually see stats from the AFL, which we never will on the growth or lack of growth in the 14+ age group. The flow on will be drop off in talent pools, you will always have good players but finding the late picks and rookies will be a lot harder
  3. That last half of the season in 1998, is still the best period of football for me as a Melbourne supporter, I only started to follow the club start of the 90s, didn't have any interest in the VFL prior to then. The games against West Coast, Richmond, then finals V Adelaide and St Kilda before North got us really was an extremely exciting period with the Wiz central to this
  4. Firing Bailey wasn't good, but hiring Neeld was a hell of a lot worse. We talk about some players being coach killers, Neeld rightly or wrongly destroyed a lot of players. Plan and simple the type of player we drafted through that period was wrong for were the game was heading. We drafted outside runners that didn't have the skill set required at AFL level. Trengove was an exception, he could run but also was able to play inside and prior to his feet issues kicked the ball really well.
  5. Really, some of the quality of football we have produced has been complete insipid. Yesterday our 1st and 3rd quarters completely insipid, our inability to get over them in the last 10 minutes was insipid, we need as supporters stop accepting some of the garbage our players produce, you cant keep going from awesome to crap week to week, quarter to quarter, ability isn't our issue it's mental application and that is extremely hard to accept
  6. The reason I support the Melbourne Demons is I supportered and fortunate enough to spend a number of years playin at the Perth Demons prior to the West Coast entering the Vfl. Almost the same story lines for both clubs. You look at Essendon they expect to win, the club has been smashed but has a winning culture we have a flakey culture and that is what we get on field
  7. Stock standard melbourne pretending to be a good afl side, but we are average
  8. That's the key, can we get a run on where we win 4 to 5 in a row
  9. Any player in the AFL that handballs the ball 75% of the time would have high DE. On Oscar, he kicks the ball OK just gets caught out of position to often and as soon as it is a contested ball one on one he is beaten, over time as his strength builds this should be less but his brother is also no good body on body
  10. I think this destination club is the biggest Myth every. Players leave and choose new clubs based a few things, the only instance where your teams performance/projection would even be considered is the Go home factor 1) Money 2) The other club doesn't want them and need to play somewhere 3) The go home factor and usually the club that gets that player outside Geelong it will be about money. Geelong is lifestyle or you lived in the region and why wouldn't you go and live in Torquay or another coastal town.
  11. My concern with Brayshaw is his concussion issues, the boy can play. Wouldn't say he is a disappointment, he can play but do you know what this is secondary to his long term health, I just hope for his sake he can work out his concussion issues
  12. Garry Lyon mentioned this last week on the radio, you restrict him. Tom you are a good player but you can only kick 50m down the or at the worse kick to someone a mile by themselves. Never kick short to a player that has a man with in 10m of him. The problem is we create of half back, we want to hit the corridor and with our current key defenders we have no confidence they can do this.
  13. I'm a little worried as I don't see much depth. Gawn makes a massive difference, Brayshaw is a real concern, Kent should be in the side not sure why he isn't, Stretch will be OK and Weideman, but who else.
  14. Can't disagree at this stage. O McDonald is a mile off by unfortunately we don't have any other options. We have draft mids and forwards with our early picks. It is a Paul Roos theory defend in the middle to tale pressure off the tall backs, which works for us when our mids are playing well. Our biggest issue which has been said 100s of times each week for the past 7 in post match threads, we haven't played 4 good quarters of Football in a game this year, we seem to have each week 1 sensational quarter and the other 3 we compete well for 1 quarter and play like a bottom 4 side for the other quarter. Till we can fix this the rollercoaster ride that we are all on at the moment will continue, even in quarters we see great periods followed by complete garbage.
  15. When we learn it only takes one player to spoil thE easy goas when 4 of our players fly for a spoil back your teammate. We can't win games playing 1 quarter if football
  16. One quarter of football, to many players are ordinary
  17. I thought it was our game V Sydney this year
  18. T-Mac, really couldn't hit the side of a barn yesterday. Would have been BOG if he could kick, as Garry Lyon said today you have to know your limitations, T-mac should be a 45m kick and never kick into the corridor
  19. You only have limited opportunities to trade in players. We didn't have a first round pick, we brought in Hibberd and Lewis plus McKenna, we have 4 rucks on our list, unfortunately 2 developing ruckman. Ideally we would love a 200cm tall forward that can slot into the ruck.
  20. I'm highly critical of the performance last night and the last 4 weeks. We have put ourselves in strong positions to win games but have had massive mental lapses that kept sides in the game and in the last three weeks us losing the game. I can cop the last qtr fade out but Richmond stayed in the game because we allowed them to through errors and mental lapses. Our last 3 bnf winners have been woeful this season, add Tom McDonald, the guys are the leaders of our club and have let the young players down. You can't fault the endeavour of most our young players, Jack Watts and Nev Jetta. Really stand by comments last night with injuries and current form of senior players I can't see a win any time soon, and with don't have any depth at Casey to cover
  21. Do we have our first round draft pick this year it will be a top 4 pick, no chance to win a game on the next 10 weeks with the lack of leadership and injuries we have
  22. Bull, 4 goals up we have no heart, season over bottom 4 here we come false hype we fall for it again
  23. No leadership Jones viney McDonald hang your heads in shame
  24. Jack Watts lines up for his 10th and Melbournes 20th for the match
  25. Every game this year we have played in patches, most have been 2 good quarters and the other 2 in range from bad to woeful. We have talked for many years on this site about the difference between our good and bad, I have never seen such a variance quarter to quarter, our good we are a top 4 side our bad we are a bottom 4 side, this is quarter to quarter not week to week and the concern I have this is all between the ears. We can train to play better but for some reason we can't get the mental side of our game right and I'm not sure the club knows how to correct this as it seems to be entrenched in our the culture of the club.
