He didn't watch the spotlight interview last night on channel 7, if you don't protect heads at the top level what chance do you have at local and junior level

Maynard must get at least four weeks
drdrake replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting night at the tribunal, a bloke that elected to bump and knocked a guy out, plus another that hit a bloke in the head. Both clubs will claim these are incidents that unfortunately happen in Footy, AFL will claim you hit them in the head with force and you had other options. I get the feeling Maynard decision will be appealled either way by Collingwood or the AFL -

Maybe I'm to old to understand the bump today, the old hip and shoulder. -

Hard, my first response was unlucky footy incident, but after seeing him turn to bump he has to be in trouble. If he didn't turn, I would agree footy accident but as soon as you elect to bump the onus is on you -

The Lawyer is already mapping out the appeal -
With this Bloke the club would have drafted him to be prime in 2 to 3 years. At the time of the draft we had picked up Grundy to add to Brown, Tmac, JVR then add in Smith, Petty, Fritsch, Melksham. He was picked along with Adams to be long term development projects not instant AFL ready players.
-
In Grundy, Jordon, Spargo Out JVR, Brayshaw, Laurie Not much else you can do.
-
The old depth chart doesn't look to good for mids. Outside the ones playing last night, Woey, Jordon, Harmes. Jordon most likely gone at years end, Harmes good chance as well, Dunstan gone. Leaving Woey jnr as the only mid not playing last night.
-
Get GC pick 4, use pick 4 and 5 for a tall and a classy mid. Harmes, Tomlinson, Jordan and Grundy gone, McAdam comes in, bundle up picks to improve our draft positions.

Hard, you go in throw him to the ground, umpires reverse the kick. You have to wait, kick the goal then like viney did go at him. -
How about we get some players that can hit a target. Our 2 best kicks play off half back in Salem and Bowey rarely put the ball inside 50. Langdon, Hunter, Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Gawn, Brayshaw all good players just aren't great kicks

Correct, if Maynard didn't elect to turn his body and bump it would have been a down the field free kick and both players continuing on. The moment he turned his body he elected to bump, he had a choice, he choose to turn his body and hit Brayshaw with his shoulder flush in the head. -
Same story for a very long time, we are terrible by foot, add in the wet we just have no idea how to hit a target. So long bomb to a contest, numbers around the contest is our plan A. Collingwood just sat behind the ball and the sling shot, win the footy and sprint forward. It was a hard game to watch MFC just so bad by foot, 3 blokes jumping for same mark and for 3 qtrs the pies cleared to ball from our forward line with ease.

Will be interesting, the pies stance will be he turned to protect himself, other he turned to bump. Either way he instigated the contact that was head high, high impact. Finals, past player heads up mro he will get off -
3 shots on goal out on the full in the last. We lost due to player stupidity.
-
A completely ineffective forward line v a very efficient forward line. We are cooked
-
They want it more, the ball just comes straight out of our forwardline with no pressure
-
Spargo more if it does rain and we are struggling to mark the footy up forward. He is clean and skilful the type of player you need in the wet
-
Good call Tommy in, I reckon Spargo will be the Sub. Start with 3 tall forwards, Smith can go back if Turner struggles. Wouldn't surprise me if Hibberd took Turners spot
-
For clubs outside of Qld and NSW, NGA is a complete waste of time. Clubs in other states did but some effort in prior to the rules being changed, now it is a couple of training runs not much more. Lucky for us we have a father son in the GCS academy, hopefully they are developing him for the 2025 draft.
-
I hope it isn't an ACL and wish him well. On the flip side I don't think having him and Fritsch in same forward line works.
-
The issue isn't Grundy or Max. We need that mobile CHF hitting up at the ball, a B Brown hitting up from deep inside 50m then the resting ruck is your third tall forward closer to goal from the long dump kick. Issue is, TMac has been injured again, B Brown being asked to play way to high and JVR still learning leaning his craft. Grundy nor Max are key forwards, neither was Luke Jackson but as third option tall forward they will be effective as long as we get the right structure around them. We also need to note that both aren't young anymore there will be a lot of games where one isn't available or managed.

2023 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The clubs aren't going to let GC walk away with their Academy players and another top 6 pick. I don't think the club will go after the no 1 pick, we have options to do so if they want to but I reckon we would be happy with 2 top 10 picks plus Brown later in the draft -
2023 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS

Pick 15 and 24 straight to Gold Coast for pick 6, then decide whether pick 5 and 6 go to West Coast for 1 and 19, add in second round pick as well. Gold Coast needs points not early picks. Pick 1, 19 and Brown be a pretty good get -
It is the same problem we have had for many years, we can't kick. We play a game style that suits our players skill level. Put the ball long to a contest get numbers to the contest win the ball with numbers. Issue is every team knows where we are kicking the footy, they are getting numbers to the contest. We are predictable and unfortunately don't have enough players that can hit that low hard 30 to 35m kick to a dangerous lead or into the middle of the ground.
