Captaincy
"I reiterate that I've got no issue at all with Max. I'm just wondering whether its time to look to the future and let Max just play footy, keep himself fit, and carry on his slow transition to his post-footy life whilst still dominating in the ruck for a couple of years to come." "I'd probably favour a Lever/ANB or Lever/Petracca ticket to replace him, but there's definitely no obvious candidate." Pirio (Above on this thread) I made a suggestion in another thread re Max winding down and buying time for a young forward/ruckman to emerge or develop. But the decision is his ......... because he has earned the right !! Please, please, please do not link a current players media performances to something serious. Np, definitely no ,no to Lever . A captain is a competitive beast . ANB for me or Daicos/Walsh/Bont in the mega trade for you know who !!!

The 2024 Positives Thread
Agree with NEARLY all your opinion except for LYNCH , because we need a longer term Key Forward or Ruckman to elongate Gawn's career (Actually,he (Gawn) could be the "Lynch pin" in our forward line and mentor the new bloke and provide support in the ruck (ala Hawkins). Remember Geelong have survived without a standout ruckman. We also have terrific potential development in Windsor ,McVee,RIvers, Kozzie, Chandler and Turner is showing versatility, Petty is confident and back. Let JVR be the Jonathon Brown of the 2020's (not huge possessions, high impact). Clarry & Trac will be back !! We also need a tall developing defender account May, Tmac & Lever are "aging" , but need management.

Time to go Goody?
Lynch is all bunged up. Why spend stupendous money on him. Unfortunately we are seeing the end of BBB's on field influenceing. We have a ripper in Van Ruyen (until Freemantle /WC offer him a gas field/mine to come home. (We had a ripper in Jackson who would / did solved a lot of the problems we are currently moaning about. Our failed experiment with Grundy was worth a try, but the powers that be failed to realise that Champions have egos (part of their makeup)

Time to go Goody?
A bloke called Petracca Another called Oliver Another called May, who has played injured most of the year Another called Lever who has trouble finding oponents A Gawn who can play on one leg even if his heart/head should say stay home Now Windsor Pretty is still overcoming a chronic injury. Apart from that ........................ allis good !!

My 3 word player analysis V GWS
Don't we jump on the bandwagon when a bloke has a baddish game after so many good ones . Seems the knife is out again for Tmac ,who was on the strongest marking forward in the AFL. Add that to the way GWS delivered the ball into the fwd line, we were lucky to get that close. They were pretty good. A seriously good game of footy (just wish the scoreline was different) At least Lever turned up tonight after missing for a couple of weeks. Clarry' s back (well 85 %) McVee does it again Rivers improving all the time Langers is a machine The Duke has ticker. Petty is showing more confidence GWS/ South Melb GF

Oliver Trade Rumours
Consider the pre-game planning going on when we had a full midfield: "****No 1 stopper will take TRac , no2 Gus, No 3 Jack no 4 Clarrie.......... How in the hell are we going to fit 4 taggers inside the central square. Well we will pick up the other 3 and let the Red head run !!!! Case solved ...........but now all we have (of the top level quality) is Jack and nobody wants to tag him, so big tag goes to "the red head"

POSTGAME: Rd 19 vs Fremantle
For all the Doomsayers: Hitouts 47-9 their way. Always going to happen, because our best CHF got monstered in the Ruck, but tried all day and plays with heart & courage (a 2020's version of Jonathan Brown) . He is learning all the time. Petty : Our new recruit . 15 Kicks, 6 marks 5 tackles & 6 ho. Cannot doubt his performance today (but I must admit we would choose Jackson before him as a second ruckman). We (outsiders) probably do not realise the impact (in confidence in his body) plays. Today you could feel he is gaining confidence to attack the aerial stuff. Easy to be critical of our "defence" , but a midfield (With their tails up and playing to a winning ruck ). Even a Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney at their finest would have had their hands full today without a "full time ruckman" .

Oliver Trade Rumours
DO NOT GIVE CORNES OR MORRIS OXYGEN. They make money out of rumours !!! (Carro makes money out of thinking she is important )

Screwed by the AFL again
Obviously Collingwood, Essendon & Carlton want it !!

Issac Heeney Tribunal Disgrace
If a bloke is tagging and scragging then he leaves himself open to getting wacked especially when his head position changed. (again a Brayshaw issue vs West Coast where there was some doubt about "shifting targets" Gus wasn't tagging anyone and did not get protected.

"Very sore" Max Gawn in doubt for next Saturday vs Essendon
Tmac , heart and soul will fill in, cop the rubbish from demonlanders and provide a heart & soul effort

"Very sore" Max Gawn in doubt for next Saturday vs Essendon
I would not rate Lever as a good contested mark, he is too intent on talking about it later
-
My 3 word player analysis V West Coast
Lever :Needs to contest marks, rather then talking about it. TMac : Thank heavens !!!

Your Least Favourite AFL Team (Poll)
Not enough choices !!!

Dees defensive work in last 2 mins against North
A good summary especially aimed at those who think prolific possessions are the criteria for winning e.g Shiel's running, Gawn, Movement to bottle game up. Protecting the corridor. All things that stats analysis does not show up !!

Look at Logan McDonald?
What about Gawny as a Full time (mostly) fwd. Let him wind down a bit and we can make him last longer . Eventually Gawny will need to be "nursed" (ala Hawkins) We could then chase a Ruckman ?

Andy Moniz-Wakefield to Debut
Exactly what I have been arguing about to the doomsayers. Theres a lot of light at the end of a short tunnel !!!

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne
I feel a lot of negativity has overtaken DL this year mainly because of our high expectations (nothing wrong with that). However we are really still reeling from the loss of Gus, Clarries issues/injuries, Petracca & temporarily Lever. Any Club would be having trouble coping with that. BUT : Think of the good kids we have developing . We have around 5 or 6 who have played less than 15 games (i.e. less than a season. in Howes,Windsor,Tholstorp (? my speling, Tynan Brown all 1st year players. Then McVee, & JVR really getting to stage 2 of their career. We have Rivers , Kozzy, Bowey and Chandler (really only a 2nd year player) moving into more responsible positions. And ANB has now moved into the upper rung of AFL Players just through sheer heart & effort. So there is still light in the Tunnell !!! ( just got to get over the Bridge !!!

PREGAME: Rd 16 vs Brisbane
Insofar as Chandler is concerned, the team actions from him are important ( 8 tackles is a pretty good night, when Demonland is lighting up on one specific tackle (Well done young Brown, a ripper run down tackle !!!) . The coaching staff would recognise that aspect and the importance of them. The media have concentrated on Brown's tackle because it would require taking notice of the game to appreciate the in and under stuff that goes on for the rest of the game.. Having said that the position he plays is a very difficult one. There have been numerous contributors who have slagged players in this position of small forward. (Spargo, ANB ,Kozzie,)
