  1. How can McVee be a Category A Rookie and be playing every game. Surely he should be a "must" sign person ?? (This is written as an informational query not a comment ).
  2. Well the choice was between Carro, Lloyd, Cornes or Eddie . I will take Danger !!!! But it will be some socialite from the Amateurs who went to school with Mc Laughlan or DIllon (I really should not be bagging him yet !!) . He/She will be portayed as having a broad business background and a full grassroots knowledge of the game (mainly through the chaffeur's experience playing out at St Albans
  3. Reading between the lines : ANB Nearly BOG Brayshaw : Nearly BOG
  4. I think think his efforts this year have been outstanding. PLUS we are seeing the emergence of Rivers, Bowey . ( plus to a degree Jordon & Sparrow & Van Royen ) The future is looking bright !!! How good is that for the future !!
  5. Isn't it funny how when "we" get a set on a player, nothing he does is good enough. When a bloke is thought of so highly by the blokes who go into the paddock with, then I feel he is something special. ANB may not have the smoothness of some players, but neither does Jack VIney , but the Club is lucky to have two players with so much heart !! (Viney's goal should be goal of the year !!! purely because of the attitude that enabled him to do it. ANB plays with heart and the players around him know that !!!!
  6. Do not complain. i recently shifted house and had no Foxtel . So had to listen to BT in between the Ads. Enough to make me watch the Soccer or appreciate the MLB Draft !!
  7. Just from AFL HQ ,instead of suspending De Gone they are altering the Rules of the Brownlow snd awarding it to him plus he is free to play for the rest of the season. Eddie would like to thank the AFLfor interfering and allowing natural justice to take place !!
  8. I think he is a really good footballer. It seems that many posters get a little impatient in relation to the development of players. Guns like Oliver & Petracca do not come along often and I cannot imagine Collingwood letting Johnson go and how are we going to match the $$$$ because Oliver/Petracca May etc are not coming cheap.
  9. " Neal-Bullen - rarely sighted again " 19 Disposals 9 tackles, obviously he was really rarely sighted (especially by Freemantle, who did not see him coming..
  10. Nearly a waste of time. We only got beaten by 4 points in a game that we hung in, and could have been completely blown away. Hardly seemed to be one positive assessment of any player.
  11. Their Midfield in Rowell, Anderson & Swallow are definitely not the weakest in the AFL. Anderson is an absolute gun (A potential Tracc) , Rowell is another Viney . And Wiks is a genuinely good ruckman (and team man) !!!
  12. Interesting ,that when we play teams with 3 really big blokes we struggle. I think??? Scott (Essendon) may have found the magic formula
  13. I am not knocking Oliver, but the Bont is ALSO "very special". i think the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Dangerfield did not have much impact in the first couple of games ala Curnow. But then Cornes cannot remember past something that happened 3 weeks ago ( way beyond his recogisence limit "
  14. Agree that the Media are causing me to lose interest in AFL. I really like watching Footy, however the competition between the media "journalists" has become so fierce that objectivity & quality has been sacrificed in attention seeking. CoOrnes, Taylor ,"Carro",Lloyd give journalism a bad name.
  15. I think Angus would need to have 100 possessions @ 100% and your comment would : Doesn't share !!
  16. It is difficult when some people have not seen the greats like Stynes, FLOWER, Alves, Jurrah(a cameo !!),Neitz,Hardeman, Matty Whelan/Jetta (would not like to separate them), Garry Lyon (watch the Youtube when he kicked 10 goals in a final !!), Brian Wilson (B'Low medallist) , Shane Woewodin ( B'low Medallist). How do you compare Brian Dixon against Stan Alves vs Langdon . Ditterich vs Gawn or Viney T/Viney J vs Barassi Will have to admit though that the current crop have some all time greats of MFC in Gawny, Petracca, Oliver plus a few "potentials" Nostalgia glosses over some issues, but the modern footballer is bigger, faster and in some ways more skillful . Robbie Flower would have been up with any of them though. A positive posting !!!
  17. Should be the first AFLW Legend !! Having said that her press Conference showed a lot of respect for her as a person. Well done on a great career Mk1.
  18. ex DeeSpencer "But boy was he inefficient with the ball in the midfield. Overall he had a good year but I just don’t agree with the value of such a long contract and surely plenty of $$$ to a player who’s greatest attribute is versatility. There’s a downside to every position Gus moves as it throws out team balance given he doesn’t blend in as a role player nor does he have the standout attributes to be locked in any given role. " Ithink you have forgotten how well he got the hard ball when under pressure i.e. Grand Final 2021. Rather than hindering team balance he provides the versatility that enable team balance to happen. His capacity to take on vatious roles and succeed in those roles just makes him nearly indispensible.
  19. I don't think the Cat will change his fur !! He is too heavily invested in Geelong and plus,is entering a new phase in his life . I do not think he is foxing for an opportunity.
  20. Yeh, but Kossie got a few. AND he is still learning. Fritsch is there but not as a gorilla (more a guerilla) Bedford had the fumbles . Maybe Bowey as a HFF and Petty as a big tough FWD Have to agree a couple of key blokes who provide genuine aerial contest (TMac & Petty)would make a huge difference (they do not have to be stars. Our FWD line this year was one dimensional and our delivery in was trying to bounce the ball off Browns Head. Does not work !!
  21. This is just getting more ridiculous by the minute. It just seems some people are determined to find a scapegoat , even if it is the same bloke(s) they were serenading 12 months ago. In 2021 we had a very good run with injuries to key players. The law of probability came into effect this year. Some issues: We played the lower sides in the first part of the year and had the "mandatory" stacked draw after that. So it caught up with us. Casey is a good level below AFL so saviours rarely just step up. The development of many of our young players in the long term will benefit from the year of development Casey brings. The Coaches (and we have good ones !!!) will be developing programs to bring the kids along, which will provide long term benefits. We were beaten by Sydney (twice for the year) and by Geelong after being right in it. (The most disappointing result for the year was losing to Brisbane after belting them earlier. The two best sides (this year) are in the Grand Final. Our Dynasty (re)starts in March 2023
  22. "For christ's sake why do people get their balls in a knot over the brownlow votes, it's an umpires award always has been and will be it's no different to coaches award, media awards or any other award it's subject to their interpretation time to move on and stop being petty that Clarry did not win it, even the so called experts had Neale, Cripps as to contenders. " When you look at it : Cripps, Miller, Neale, Brayshaw A., Petracca & Oliver. Any team would love to have 2 of them !!! The Brownlow is one of the Awards, but the only one delivered by the people actually in the middle, hence is more on involvement rather than impact. Since the modern game has evolved it really has become a Midfielders award. The Coaches award is closer to the impact a player has on the game so the supporters of a player from a club who polls very highly in the Coaches award and poorly in the Brownlow (and vice versa ) tend to criticise the other.
  23. Bit of a problem . Smith was injured for a good part of the season. JVR is not JC . He is a young kid growing into his body and learning what footy is about. It is important to allow kids to develop e.g we did not get the full potential out of Jack Watts because we used him as a marketing tool and sent a skinny kid out on Queens B'day well before his body (and mind) was ready for it. Alistair Clarkson made a comment one day about the introduction of a young player who had been in the system for a while. He said that you can get the best out of younger players by providing consistency in their development not by thinking they are the Club's saviour. Let's develop a dynasty ala Hawthorn, MFC in 50 & 60's. Short term "solutions" do not work in the long term. The general tenor of this topic is one of extreme negativity. You would think that MFC finished 12th this year.
