  1. What about Gawny as a Full time (mostly) fwd. Let him wind down a bit and we can make him last longer . Eventually Gawny will need to be "nursed" (ala Hawkins) We could then chase a Ruckman ?
  2. Exactly what I have been arguing about to the doomsayers. Theres a lot of light at the end of a short tunnel !!!
  3. I feel a lot of negativity has overtaken DL this year mainly because of our high expectations (nothing wrong with that). However we are really still reeling from the loss of Gus, Clarries issues/injuries, Petracca & temporarily Lever. Any Club would be having trouble coping with that. BUT : Think of the good kids we have developing . We have around 5 or 6 who have played less than 15 games (i.e. less than a season. in Howes,Windsor,Tholstorp (? my speling, Tynan Brown all 1st year players. Then McVee, & JVR really getting to stage 2 of their career. We have Rivers , Kozzy, Bowey and Chandler (really only a 2nd year player) moving into more responsible positions. And ANB has now moved into the upper rung of AFL Players just through sheer heart & effort. So there is still light in the Tunnell !!! ( just got to get over the Bridge !!!
  4. Insofar as Chandler is concerned, the team actions from him are important ( 8 tackles is a pretty good night, when Demonland is lighting up on one specific tackle (Well done young Brown, a ripper run down tackle !!!) . The coaching staff would recognise that aspect and the importance of them. The media have concentrated on Brown's tackle because it would require taking notice of the game to appreciate the in and under stuff that goes on for the rest of the game.. Having said that the position he plays is a very difficult one. There have been numerous contributors who have slagged players in this position of small forward. (Spargo, ANB ,Kozzie,)
  5. Please do not use Kennett or McGuire as exemplars . Far from it in many ways.
  6. Yes, when Public Health is fully & appropriately funded. Next it will be a cry for one of these machines at every footy ground in Australia. Let's get real !!! Trac is in good hands (thank heavens) and the Epworth is only a short drive from the MCG. We do have a health system.
  7. Dreams !!! We will have two new recruits next year anyway i.e. Trac & Clarrie
  8. It is not the end of the world, although the doomsayers seem to be in full flight. Firstly : We have a lot of very young players (some tried already and some developing) Currently we have 3 or 4 defenders: 1st or 2nd year players (McVee,Howes,Bowey,Woewodin (either defence or wing) A young wingman in the Duke.........So that makes 5 or 6 current L Platers Our Forward line probably needs development but has a lot of potential in JVR , Turner . Admittedly Petty has not gone ahead after his run with injuries. Petty & JVR could be our Key Forwards and both (plus Turner) are very young. Rivers ,Kozzy, Bowey, Chandler are all good players ready to move up a level/position of Responsibility. Lever is still relatively young. May is too good to fade away quickly. TMAC seems timeless (although some have given up on him 6 years ago, but he has been our swingman and now he is fit again is proving invaluable. Maximus has broad shoulders, but cannot carry a football team. He could be the experienced forward we need if Petty goes to Adelaide/PA or even if he stays. Viney is viney !! (He has been downgraded too many times and keeps providing heart) Fritta needs a stronger body around his area to take pressure off him physically. Petracca, Oliver are too good to be bad. Langdon & Salem : write them off at your own risk. ANB plays with spirit & passion. ANNNND very under rated teamwise. He is not going to win a Brownlow but "does the job" Secondly : If our Recruiting people have been doing their job and there is enough evidence to say they have , there are number of "probables" to come into this side when our L Plater move up the ranks ala Kozzy,Bowey,Rivers. Our "older" players need to move down into elder statesman status (ala Hawkins role @ Geelong) and be able to porovide the "support" Thirdly : I miss Gus, but he has to fade in our memory and stay in our hearts
  9. I hate to say this..........BUT it is not a war . In a war, people die and I do not think sport should be like that !!! In a sport, people defeat (or try to) the opponent. I feel some people have confused the issues.
  10. I was one who thought that Maynard could get his come uppance, but what does it serve. If someone had fixed him up today they would have been missing for 4 weeks (the rules have changed !!). Tracc showed he is respectful of the traditions of the game . Secondly Football is a game (albeit a serious one at this level) but NOT a WAR !!! Let us get things in perspective. P.S. Gus was my favourite player, and I feel for how his life has changed.
  11. Probably not our best day, but an improvement on last week. Kicking for goal is like a raffle at the moment. We do the work and do not quite finish it off. ANB,TMac ,JVR all good. DIsposal to Forwards shizenhowson !!!
  12. Wish we had Jordan, Bedford & Grundy (if he wanted to play for us at all) back. Isn't it amazing how some players win the Hore-Francis awards. (If you are in the wrong Club then if you lay on the ground kicking your heels until you get your own way) Jordan & Bedford must be really really good bargains when you think about it. I do not blame them for going because they were on the edge of what we thought were our main strengths. I am not being critical of "The Duke" but Bedford probably should have been given more time to develop. (No problems with Langdon, but his battery has got to wear down soon). At the moment we do not seem to have a "mad mongrel" in the guts . I hope Viney plays on Sh*** d tomorrow so he is continually worried about where Viney is ! Otherwise we ignore "it".
  13. Talk about overeaction. We may have had a couple of bad games in the last few weeks, but the Football Dept will have analysed our games with a view to correcting. There seem to be more important things going on in the real world like making sure Dusty plays his 300th at the MCG (B*** the Adelaide game.). C'wood will probably demand that Pendlebury's 400th game is at the MCG regardless of the Draw, so we could be playing in Quambatook (spare ground there apparently). Looked out the window and thought how lucky we are to regard Footy as a Major, major catastrophy. The Marketing Dept of the AFL will solve all this, so take a Bex & have a good lie down
  14. What a great positive topic !!!
  15. All this is a Media driven "shriek factor Story" . This is the same mob who are demanding that players have to talk to BT OR ELSE. Why can't the Umpires Coach talk to the Umpires ? If you can tell me that somebody watching on screen can comment to an umpire EARLY enough to affect a decision then i will go jumping !! Football coaches talk to the Footballers and supposedly provide positive feedback. As mentioned in the press the umpires coach/supervisor provides feed back
  16. I saw Flower come on the ground @ Victoria Park as 19th /20th man in the Reserves. Comments made were " Lookit the Shiela" as he had "athletic glasses" 10 minutes later he got the ball , showed it to half the Collinwood side and the comments were "kill the shiela" My favourite moment. .........He was silk !!! Barassi was brutal, but lifted sides through shear will, like nobody except for Maximus.
  17. I think we should get both a new baby & a new bath !!! The take a bex & have a good lie down !!
  18. I think Dusty has switched off. We have put time & $$ into our development and these blokes could be 10 year players so a short term fix does not strengthen the Playing list.
  19. Why could not Collingwood divert some funds (for rings) toward public housing instead of pumping up (overpaid)egos. A Premiership medal from the AFL would mean a lot more in the long run !!!(and provide more to society as a whole.
  20. HAs started to look like he belongs. I saw his old man play on Hird one day against Essendon. Fascinating !!!
  21. Give Woewodin a go . He is improving every time he plays.
  22. What a load of rubbish from the AFL who are trying to corporatise/americanise our game. Give it to Junior Footy development. There are lots of people at grass roots who spend a lot of their own money just to have basic facilities. Likewise I cannot justify building a stadium in Tasmania that is only going to be used for 8 times a year. Maybe it is going to be used to house poeple who are looking for a roof over their head. Where are the priorities in Society. Just because American Sport does, NRL (heaven forbid if we copy them) doesn't mean it is good for the game.
  23. My father was in Gallipoli in July 1915, then in France from 1916 till the end of the war. That is how he spent his 17-22 birthdays. Long term I do not think he ever settled down after that. He disappeared when I was 5 and Mum was left woth 4 kids under 5. Then 20 odd years later I was in Vietnam as a National Serviceman (1967-68) So Anzac day is a genuine day of reflection (on how lucky we are to have a life)
  24. Actually the articles by the "real" journalists at the Age seemed pretty complimentary & objective, but "Carro's contribution to "journalism" compares favourably with Channel 7's "current affairs" program. I do not think it is in her DNA to say anything positive about Melbourne FC. Actually I feel that Collingwood should have to pay Gus' contract out of their "Player payments" with no salary cap relief considering what they got away with.
  25. Cannot comprehend the love for Lever. His failure to contest is the weakness in his game and gets exposed when May is not there. Otherwise it wa hard to do justice to the all round effort by all the players.
