  1. It is agreed that this bloke is a quality person full stop, and has to be admired for taking the second chance with both hands. He is a definite community leader by hias actions and attitude. His parents would be very very proud of him He also has been a terrific footballer.
  2. Agree, I posted on another topic the same thing. We are establishing the nucleus of a really good side. Premiership sides do not have 22 stars, but a lot of people who play their roles. ( Name all of Hawthorns Premiers 0nly 5 years ago or RIchmonds 3 years ago)) We have the best ruckman (or close to it) , a bloody good backup now, the fabulous 4. a replacement for Jetta (although I wish he could still keep going at his best) , an outside wingmen/medium fwd. Small Fwds still in their football infancy. A Full Fwd , Three really good first years ( Jackson, Rivers Kozzie). A couple of really good second + years ( Sparrow & Lockart). Our Defence is no longer a sieve ( thanks to May) PLUS we have backups for most of these. Start building the flagpoles !!!
  3. You can putt the lights out until you go on to the course and then it becomes difficult
  4. I feel the structure and gameplan of our midfield has changed a lot for the better. The "bursting"runs of Clarrie cf the "get rid of it handballs" plus the involvement/improvement of Gus is providing our runners with more GOOD opportinities. I have not forgotten about TRacwho has been good all year. But Jack V played a similar role last week with his willingnes to share the ball instead of killing the tackler has made difference. Bennell coming back into this environment woukd be the icing on the cake. My only wish is that the next step for Kozzie is to complete his tackles. That would make him a real menace (to others) However he is only 19 and in his first year. Think of the improvement of Sparrow, Rivers & Jackson and suddenly the world is brighter.
  5. TMac may not have dominated , but he is a competitor in the ruck and in the forward like, which suits our smaller fwds . I would bei nterested in how our coaching staff rate some of the "lesser lights "contributions tonight.
  6. I love Jetta ,but Lockart is his reincarnation . SImilar traits insofar as Courage, Toughness and "Teamness". HAs been extremely solid . Notice the other wekk when he appeared to fighting outside his weight range and May came in to help him out. Back six is gelling.
  7. Why oh why would we even entertain or be thinking about this issue when we saw the Fabulous four demonstrate what they are capable of tonight. They were working with a losing ( but competitive) ruck against three of the best midfielders in AFL ( Sidebotton, Pendlebury & Adams) . SInce Clarrie has decided that if he moves into top gear not many people catch him . Viney's game tonight gave us real grunt wewhen needed. Petracca ahs gone into elite category. & Gus is the bloke who sets the plays up by putting the ball into a better position by his decision making (and ability to work both sides of his body) ., It is amazing that when Gus is on song our game flows !!! Plus Langdon has provided the outside run we were looking for. And I must admit May is as good a player as the brains trust @MFC thought. Now we have them complementing each other why would you swap for a "might be"
  8. 29 Disposals 4 Marks 7 Score Involvements 8 Inside 50’s 1 Goal Welcome back Mr.Brayshaw Sparrow : Good game for an intern Jackson,Kickett,Rivers, Sparrow :: Ooze potential Langdon : Learn to kick LF, Needs to onegrab !!
  9. Do you actually believe those placings. They are only to put in the paper !!!
  10. Maybe our game against Port was not too bad after all. Must admit , have seen some rippers in the last week. Freeo v C'wood, RV Port , Saints vs GC, WC vs someone else . All been good !!! M v A top of the tree.
  11. Apart from that you seem happy with the team selection. ??
  12. Is Gus the new OMac ? or what. Once a bloke is in the gun nothing he does will ever be good enough. Yes....he was in the middle at the first bounce, but spent a lot of the first half off the ground. However when he got going in the 2ns half he "synced with Oliver and Max AND provided silver service down the ground. Makes a difference !!!! (Back to 2018)
  13. At least this discussion is based on appreciation of the positives some players bring to MFC rather than bagging everything. I have been advocating for Jack Viney to be our small fwd. He is a poor man's Cyril in that opposing players in yhe area would have an eye out for where he is. We would be guaranteed a contest in there on the ground and it means that we do not lose by having our bigger mids i.e. Clarrie, Gus in there . They then form part of the pressure to hold the ball in by supporting that area between HF & Centre which is the most dangerous spot on the ground yo lose control (as Per Jobe Watson , Jordon Lewis and Hodgey.and other recent players. In that way we can keep our good players but always have options up[ our sleeves.
  14. In the meantime I watched a friggin absolute cracker of a game last night.( WC & Geelong) I will bet ALL our Players and COaching staff would have seen it, just see how much G,D and capacity to execute under pressure, was on display last night. Ah, the game is is thriving !!!! PS : Plus we did not have any tanties and push & Shove like Frawley & Papley last week . The players were too disciplined.
  15. I think some people are confusing performance of the team and a person's personal vlife, which Ithink is not becoming of a logical discussion of our Football Club. The media do not run MFC and are renowned at making mountains out of molehills. We are in danger of cintinuing the vindictiveness . Before I get shot at,there is nothing wrong with players liking a coach and success is not branded on fear. Apparently he is a very good person to work with, so please cut out the personal "sniping "
  16. I think Lockart's attack on the ball in the first quarter was a lot more fierce.
  17. I would have to agree wholeheartedly. As I mention elsewhere the Effective disposal efficiency from our top ballgetters was around 50 % (Oliver & Viney. Petracca was 58" but he at least makes things happen. OLiver & Viney either go round in circles or "bomb "NS (Not Specifically). I often wonder as to what the criteria is for Effective Disposal because if it includes dinky hanballs that go 1 Metree to someone with 2 opponents hovering then I do not class it as effective.
  18. Gus seems to come up often and has taken Oscar's role as a whipping boy. Viney's Disposal Efficiency last night was around 50 % which effectively meant that even though Gus had a lot less possessions he had as many effective as Viney and only a couple behind Oliver. Plus the ball was not handed back some 20 + times at the centre to HF line by poor disposal. Connectivity, sorry poor disposal/turnovers meant that the Fwds in Jackson, TMac and Weid were not even given a chance to be involved. You can have all the potential in the world but if you lead and the kick that was to come to you is fumbled, dropped, misguided etc .. as we saw last night then you are stuck in middle of FLinders St. without toilet paper. That highlights the problem in that the only current "big"ball winner who disposes reasonably is Petracca who has jumped Gus as a midfield option. Gus had a great year UNTIL the running past midfielder got cut out with 2019 rules. Plus surely Gawny could tap it OVER the scrum a bit more. 19. Something is wrong, because two years ago he was one of the quickest endurance athletes around for his size.
  20. I thought Lockart was pretty good. He showed a lot more competitiveness than people on 7 times his salary !!!! The damage was done when the ball turned over around 1/2 fwd, centre because of poor decision making/skills not AFL level. The resulte was a grey swarm going down the ground and the defenders got overwhelmed.
  21. 5 Gawn 4 Lockart 3 Sparrow 1 May 1 Petracca Cannot find anyone else to give even 1 vote to
  22. I honestly think that was the worst performance Melbourne have put in since I can remember (some 68 years ago ). Too many palyers flatfooted The quality of decision making was definitely not AFL standard . Unfortunately our most prolific ball getters are among our worst disposal / decision making. Therein lies our problem. I am not denying Viney & Oliver efforts, but tonight they fumbled & wentt back into dinky handball/bombs. That is when we are at our worst.
  23. VIney has been terrific for the last 3 weeks, but he & Clarrie do not bring others into the game as much as they could. Petracca is so much more effective with ball in hand because he is looking for options BEFORE he gets the ball. The Wings & Outside Mids do not know where Clarrie & Jack are going ?and how they are going to dispose. For a season & a half we have hand plenty of grunt in the middle ,but not enough quality coming out of it. Opposing teams learn to play off our dominant ruckman like tonight and have the quality to use the ball better. Simple game really.
  24. Maybe the definition of an effective disposal should be more clearly defined !!!
