Colin Sylvia- Complaints, Congratulations and Comments
H_T replied to Don24's topic in Melbourne Demons
I tend to agree. He was well held by his opponent for the day. Give some credit to his opponent, FFS. Personally, I was heartened by the first 3 quarters, very disappointed in the last. Bruce was terrible and very quiet. Bell couldn't kick in a karate class. Bring on Round 1. Happy with Spencer, Miller, McLean. -
Definitely a sense of goodwill for the community and the bushfire victims. Jim's said there are links and it will be ongoing ie. Kinglake. "It's not a one-off." It's a pity the team photo's have been taken without a sponsor's logo.

You know what I mean. Hope everythings going well with preparations mate.....the long room....good choice.

How true. If he has a good season, so be it. It's irrelevant to "us" as far as I'm concerned. If he's having a gun season in 4-5 years time, well that is a different story.

Just heard KB all over the sports news talking about the Nick Maxwell case/appeal. OMG! He's speaking out that this is a very important case and may determine that the 'fair bump' is in danger of being outlawed from the game. He thinks the tribunal got it wrong. What a load of rot. FFS, firstly 'Hungry' should keep his mouth shut as he is on the rules committee. Secondly, I thought no-one is allowed to speak out prior to the case is complete. Thirdly, KB you've help implement the rules, that stipulate that contact to the head is sacrosanct. Nick Maxwell clearly did not have eyes for the ball, he's focus and intention was soley to the opposition player first and foremost. He made contact of serious impact and high. It was deemed negligent (even though I thought it bordered on reckless). It resulted in serious injury. End of story. 4 weeks was handed out. Cop it sweet.

Thanks True Believer. That link may need some fine tuning Alpha.... .

All I've seen is the occassional post of Blake regarding his stint on the Footy Show last year. Sure he is doing alright in the radio ratings and Jimmy may have his number for use down the track. But is he really that appealing? I would of thought - "let the football talk" in terms of marketing and our new exciting recruits. Surely Hamish Blake can be utilised better. Ie. MC events such as at the youth forum.

Can't say I've heard that one before.
-
I hope so....
-
Well, I don't hear Eddie complaining, do you? The head is sacrosanct.
-
Fantastic to read that Rivers will likely be training next week. Walked laps today. No limp.
-
Red (& Blue). It's as simple as that.

IMO, Maxwell was guilty of being reckless, as his first priority was the man, not the ball and his aim was to take him out of play for the ball. Head contact is a no, no. Its stipulated in the rules. They got it right. The bump is still legal. But it has to be implemented correctly. If it was a "perfectly good hip & shoulder", Maxwell would not have made head contact.

I think you've got the side for the first test there Titan..Agree with McGain.

Whilst I don't think Sylvia is "easily" in our best 22. I think he's in our best 22. Still, that is disappointing for a number 3 pick in a ND. If you were to ask me where I would rank Sylvia in the team, honestly... I would say anywhere between 7-18, depending what day it is. It might sound generous to some, it might seem harsh to others. Everyone has their different view.

Make no mistake. Whether we reach 30,000 members or 32,000 members, this will not guarantee a financially viable club. 10 years ago 20,000+ members was considered to be the benchmark to secure the future of the club. Now it's 30,000+. In ten years time it might be 40,000+... What is critical is those members to attend and spend more on merchandise, etc. What is also critical is those elected to the positions within the club to do their job well (including coaches and players) - ensuring the future viability of the club. The job is never finished, whether in pursuit of a premiership or having achieved a premiership, the club needs ongoing help from everyone associated, regardless if you've helped in the past and you think you've done enough. If you truly love the club and want success, you'll continue to help whether digging deep into your pocket or 'dee'voting your time.

Let's hope whenever its 'black and white' at the tribunal.......they have to go..!
-
I agree. Just hope he gets fit again and gets a few games under his belt, then he should be right. Well, there was Weetra.
-
Took him off, put him in cotton wool, he'll be right.
-
How true.

Pleasing to read that Buckley played well, breaking the lines, etc. Also Spencer's game. These are two critical areas regarding how our team functions. Having said that, there are other areas that need big improvement too.......

Whilst it may be close, does it touch the AFL logo? I think it's ok. Yes, although I prefer just the "twwwooooo" colours. Red & Blue. Thanks Richie.

Wouldn't it be fantastic 'IF' our beloved Demons came out this week against Hawthorn and showed all the grit, determination and might and Dee-molished the Hawks (Premiers '08) to the tune of 50+ points. Do you think we'd have prospective sponsors lining up at our offices at the "G" next week?

We have a 'Game Plan?' That's right. An extra month's work on fitness won't make a difference. Mind you that extra month there would have been alot of work done in the class room brushing up on what Bailey requires of the team out on the field and learning what the 'BIG' teams are doing, as well as improving kicking and/or disposal skills. I also think it will be competitive for spots all over the park. It is very much work in progress on the development side of things at our club. Go Demons! (God speed) One game at a time M2W.
