I don't know what to think. I just hate the fact that Lewis and Gawn are out, and that had we had both of them (with Hogan) we'd probably be at least 3 wins and 1 loss. Richmond will be a tough game. The absolute 'in' must be 4 quarter white hot intensity. No more 10-15 minute lapses.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 4
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Goodwin seems to like tall forwards contesting the incoming ball without necessarily marking it in order to give players like Garlett the opportunity to impact the scoreline. Weids does this. He's tall and goes hard at the contest. I expect that's why he's on the team sheet this week. -
Pin that article on the locker door of every player on the list.

Just type 'Herald Sun' and the exact words of the headline into the Google search field and it will give you the article sans the pay wall. Well, I qualify that - 60% of the time, it works every time.

Not sure that it bodes well, but it's certainly a relief that we may have a reasonably effective Plan B.

I'm not sure I find it funny, but it doesn't particularly faze me. I'm absolutely gutted about Max Gawn's hamstring injury - that is a material concern.

I had us firmly in the eight at the start of the year. Gawn out is going to be super challenging to overcome. Add to that suspensions to Hogan and Lewis, and injuries to Vince, Hibberd and some others, and my optimism is starting to wane. We need to win every game in which we have a sniff (eg, last week), because it's getting harder each week given our list of quality players who are out. Even top 4 teams struggle when their best players are out.

Few wannabe Shawshank Redemption-esque prison wardens here. Let the Leadership Group deal with it when he gets back.
-
Prior to the season, I had thought we'd definitely play finals this year if Gawn played every game. 2.5 games in, and he's out for possibly 12 weeks. This absolutely sucks. Pouring a scotch right now.

Geelong - dodged a bullet.

Bloody hell. Hogan, Lewis and now Gawn. This is deadly.

Jack Watts' goal was ridiculous. Best I have ever seen. Our goal kicking was ridiculous. Worst I have ever seen. My Cats' supporting mate, with whom I watched the game, was ridiculously annoying. Nearly punched him in the head after the game. We're not talking today.
-
I share your view. Lewis's suspension is super unhelpful though. We really need his experience in these games.
-
At least we can no longer be accused of playing 'bruise free' footy. This club has finally re-branded itself. We are hard now. Genuinely.

This is red hot.

Nathan Jones only cares for one club.

Christian Salem - future position role
Ron Burgundy replied to Bobby Clark's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. But I'm not actually worried about him ultimately re-signing - I reckon he's here for the long haul. -
TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Even though Vince on Dangerfield is a nice prospect, we need him to cover for Lewis. I'd play Viney on Dangerfield in a negating role, if only to allow him to recapture his 2016 form without the need to get 30 plus disposals. Oliver, Jones and Tyson to share the ball winning duties. -
How would Petracca go out of the goal square?

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Ron Burgundy replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was interesting to see that it was Roos who really rated Oliver upon seeing footage of him, despite him being rated as a 15-20 selection at the time. And it was Roos who really rated Lever, again well above his likely draft selection. He loved his competitiveness and composure. I seem to recall that Lever did a lot of boxing as a kid. The Trengove trade was about Lever - even though it appeared brutal at the time, it clearly would've enhanced our squad. Roos knows a player when he sees one. As a senior coach, he's an awesome list builder. Don't expect we'd have much chance of getting Lever though - the Crows aren't exactly the Suns, and I expect it'll be super hard if not impossible to dislodge him when push comes to shove. -
I love Paul Roos.

Ins: Vince and Kent (and possibly Bugg to run with Dangerfield and or Selwood to allow Vince to field-marshall play a little more in the absence of Lewis). Small forward line has to be the go. We'll see if the Trac has it In him to be Stringer v.2. Watts, Weid, Trac, Hannan, Garlett, Kent is not an altogether bad forward line. But Gawn has to have a day out and the entire team has to play with relentless intensity for the entire game. Small forward line will be okay at Etihad if our mids play well and we are calm and deliberate with the ball in hand i.e. our forward entries need to mirror that from the second quarter in the Saints game, not what we served up against Carlton. It's a real pity we don't have Lewis for a while though. Having him in the side each week settles my nerves.
-
I really hate Carlton. I was yelling at everyone and everything around me when they had the ascendancy in the second and third quarters. Plainly, these are two very big outs and it takes the icing off the win somewhat. But at least we won - I'd be on a rampage with Lewis out for three and Hogan out for two if we also lost the game. Anyway, Carlton can throw their toys. We have an exciting future. They suck. On many levels. Well coached though, defensively at least - while it was painful to watch a game played in our forward 50 with 36 players in there, it was pretty effective for much of the game. Bloody mongrels. Here's wishing them no success for a very, very long period of time.

Bloody. Hell.
